Will Pilgrim continue its Thanksgiving reign?
Pilgrim has dominated this Thanksgiving rivalry as of late and rolled to another Beacon Bowl win last fall on Toll Gate’s home turf. The Pats had a big season as they returned to the playoffs and have all the pieces in place to repeat as Thanksgiving champs. With guys like Carter Clifton, Jacob Soulliere, Hunter Schobel, Chris Maniatakos and Colin Burke on the roster, the Pats enter this year’s Beacon Bowl as the favorite again.

Titans look to snap skid, reclaim Beacon Bowl
The Toll Gate football team last claimed a Beacon Bowl victory over rival Pilgrim on Thanksgiving Day in 2017, but will be looking to put an end to that streak in short order.
The Titans dropped down to Division IV this year and are still in the midst of a rebuild with one of the state’s youngest rosters. However, Thanksgiving matchups tend to bring the unexpected, and Toll Gate will be ready to go.
Toll Gate has seen several players step under center this year thanks to injury. Whether it is Nick Bruner or Jack Colvin, Toll Gate will have experienced signal callers lining up, along with a stable of offensive weapons that include guys like Shane Moro and Brayden Healey.

Falcons hungry to extend streak after early playoff exit
The Cranston West football team had championship aspirations heading into the 2024 season but would finish 2-5 and fall in the quarterfinals against Portsmouth. Fortunately for the Falcons, they get one more chance at redemption as they get set to defend their Thanksgiving win streak against East. The Falcons carry a five-year reign over the rival Bolts, and will once again be led by standouts such as Kelan Cornell, Charlie Cornell and Adrian Samayoa.

Young Bolts eyeing Turkey Day upset
The Cranston East Thunderbolts had one of the youngest rosters in Rhode Island this season, relying primarily on underclassmen including seven freshmen starters. The Bolts saw steady improvement throughout the fall, wrapping up the regular season by beating East Greenwich 21-14 and earning the final seed in the Division III playoffs.
The Bolts will enter the Thanksgiving matchup against the rival Falcons as the underdogs, but have plenty of reason for hope as they look to end the five-year drought. Jovany Gonzalez and Amias Reed enjoyed breakout seasons, while returners like Saqari Monroe, DionAndre Brown and Angel Figueroa were impact players on both sides of the ball.

Carter Clifton returned under center this season and immediately became one of the division’s top signal callers. Clifton’s big arm along with his ability to make plays with his legs helped propel the Pilgrim offense to the playoffs.
Chris Maniatakos has been a leader on the defensive side of the ball for Pilgrim this season as a senior captain. Maniatakos has done it all up front, leading the team in sacks while also providing a steady run-stopping ability.
Jacob Soulliere has been the engine of the Pilgrim offense as its leading rusher. Soulliere has proven to be one of the best north-south runners in the division while also providing some punch in short yardage and red zone situations.
Warwick Players to Watch
Nick Bruner was thrust into action early this season as the Titans saw multiple injuries impact their offense. Bruner stepped up immediately and took command of the offense and became one of the team’s leaders down the stretch.
Stephen Amargo has been one of the team’s most versatile players since entering the program. He serves as the team’s tight end on offense and edge rusher on defense, making him an impact player on both sides of the ball.
Goulin StoraGe
Hunter Schobel is a three-phase weapon for the Pats and is the team’s most explosive player. As a wide receiver, defensive back and punter, the senior standout has scored touchdowns in all three phases and is a home run threat at all times.
Jack Colvin has been a Swiss army knife for Toll Gate throughout his career and wore many hats this fall. Colvin was a starter on the defensive side of the ball and even saw some late season action at QB when Nick Bruner suffered an injury.
Shane Moro has been a workhorse running back for Toll Gate this season and was instrumental in the team grabbing an early season win over Hope. Moro led the team in rushing yards and found the end zone to clinch the win.
Saqari Monroe, East
Saqari Monroe was one of the most feared running backs in DIII and was a force from start to finish this season. He did some of his best work in the team’s season finale, where he rushed for three touchdowns to help clinch a playoff berth.
Kelan Cornell lived up to the hype this fall as he was one of the state’s best dual threat quarterbacks. The senior captain helped guide the Falcons to the playoffs in their first year back in Division I.
DionAndre Brown, East
DionAndre Brown is one of the state’s most physical players and was a tone setter for the Bolts both on offense as a running back and defense as a lineman. Brown’s two-way play was pivotal in the Bolts making progress as a program.
Jovany Gonzalez, East
The Bolts elected Jovany Gonzalez as their new quarterback this fall and he stepped up admirably as the team picked up two wins and earned a playoff berth in Division III. The junior figures to be the unquestioned leader next fall.
Cranston Players to Watch
Charlie Cornell had a breakout season as a junior and was the team’s go-to receiver on offense. Cornell led the team in nearly all receiving categories and figures to be among the state’s elite as a senior next year.
Adrian Samayoa has been an unsung hero for the Falcons and was once again a mainstay on the defensive side of the ball this fall. Samayoa did some of his best work in the team’s win over South Kingstown.
Amias Reed, East
Amias Reed had a breakout season as a freshman and was instantly the team’s most explosive player on offense. Reed was a dynamic threat on the outside and became the team’s biggest playmaker.
Anthony Salas caught fire down the stretch and became one of Kelan Cornell’s most trusted weapons on offense, both as a rusher and receiver.
