Arcadia’s Matthew Schroyer Achieves Eagle Scout Rank Matthew John Schroyer achieved the Eagle Scout rank on August 21, 2008. The Court of Honor was held at Holy Angels Church on Saturday, January 24, 2009. Matt has been in Scouting since he was a Tiger Cub at Highland Oaks School. Through the various ranks of Scouting, he was also Troop Guide, Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. He is an active participant in the Order of the Arrow, now serving as the Lodge Chief for the Ta Tanka Lodge. His Eagle Project consisted of sending 400 individual care packages to the Troops overseas. The packages included toiletries, cookies & snacks, disposable cameras, DVD’s and more. He enjoyed responses from many of the Soldiers, with their thanks of appreciation for “being remembered” during their tour of duty. M a t t currently is a Senior at Arcadia High School and is very active with the Marching Band and Senior Men and Women, providing “service” to the school activities.
Arcadia AAUW to Hear Speaker from Hsi Buddhist Temple “Hsi Lai” means “coming to the West,” and that describes exactly the establishing of the Hsi Lai Buddhist Temple in Hacienda Heights. Built in the region’s foothills, the Hsi Lai complex is the largest Buddhist temple in the Western Hemisphere. The Arcadia Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will learn more about this spiritual and cultural center at its meeting on Monday, March 9.
