SMRFA Selects 2011 Float Design T he S ier r a M a d re Rose Float Association has selected “Suenos de California”, designed by member Charles Meier, and has been approved by the Tournament of Roses as Sierra Madre Rose Float Association’s 2011 parade entry. “Suenos” depicts an early California mission scene including a mission, a fountain, burro & cart. Highlighting the scene will be palms, butterflies and up to four princesses and one male rider. The initial plans call for a large float measuring 55 feet long, 28 feet tall and 18 feet wide with potential animation including moving butterfly wings, rotating cart wheels

Paragon At Old Town, the new complex on Myrtle Avenue between Olive and Walnut Avenues, is set to open in the beginning of April, but is already renting units. Very soon traffic on Myrtle Avenue will return to normal. Part of the snarls have been created by the city of Monrovia which is upgrading the west side of the street to match the improvements the developers are making to the east side with the new complex. The Paragon will anchor the south end of Old Town. Fittingly, the developers are putting in a large gateway over the street. The structure will read “Myrtle Avenue” over larger lettering reading “Old Town Monrovia.” According to Craig Jimenez, a Monrovia Planner, there is no firm date for the installation of the gateway,

The Pasadena Marathon got off to a slightly wet start on Sunday. However this drizzle didn’t deter nor or damper Marathon registered participants’ enthusiasm who numbered about 8300 and started off with the bike tour with ever- fashionable Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard leading the way. Even though this was
only the second Marathon in Pasadena, to many it is the third. The very first was cancelled due to dangerous smoke in the air.
