MUSD will Not be Closing Any Libraries BY TERRY MILLER Contrary to some reports regarding the Monrovia School District on a local blog, there will be no closures of any libraries in the school district and only reduction in operating hours remains a possibility at this point, according to Kris Mariconda of The Monrovia Unified School District. Meanwhile,

MUSD Superintendent Linda Wagner told Beacon Media that while the report by the State Superintendent is no surprise, the district is working diligently to avoid cutbacks. However, with the state budget, it is likely that all school districts in California will

Relay for Life this Weekend in Arcadia BY AMY LEONG It stands before us aching those closest to our hearts. It gathers strength and pride in those who belong to it. And even though it may slowly bring us down, the royalty of the color purple is a reminder of our strength, bringing loved ones, friends, families, and pets closer than ever before – as one entity with one big family, one heart, and one mindset to fight back against it. On June 25-26, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will take place at the

Santa Anita Race Track. An entire 24 hours, from 11:00 am to 11:00am, the event will bring together hundreds of families, friends, and survivors to raise awareness of cancer’s impact and the importance to find the cure. With over 45 teams composed of about 5-20, and even 49 members, Relay for Life has grown in numbers, more to spread the American Cancer Society’s message: Celebrate, Remember, Fight

The arrest of this serial robbery suspect is a great example of the cooperative efforts and teamwork demonstrated between law enforcement agencies. California Philharmonic Founder and Music Director Maestro Victor Vener has many talents, but a single vision...to balance the greatest formal classical music with the greatest popular music and share it with an ever-expanding audience. Quite a feat, but one that

the Maestro has been doing successfully for more than four decades. An accomplished artist, conductor, student and teacher, who is currently preparing for Cal Phil’s 2011 summer series which kicks

Monrovia Councilman Clarence Shaw Called to Active Duty Monrovia City Council Member , Clarence Shaw suprised the community at Tuesday’s Council Meeting when he announced that his reserve unit might be activated shortly. The activation would mean that Shaw would not be able to attend council meetings and that he was not sure when he would

be called to active duty. Mayor Mary Ann Lutz said that although the city could appoint someone temporarily to fill in for Shaw, they preferred to honor his service to the country by keeping his position open. “We need to see how we function as a four member council,” Lutz said.
