Landslide Victory for Tom Selinske PUSD
California State Assemblymember Anthony J. Portantino (D-La Canada Flintridge) introduced a bill which would make it a crime to openly carry an unloaded handgun – AB 144. Proponents of the practice of openly carrying handguns in public are expected to voice their belief in citizens’ “God-given right” to self defense in opposition to this bill Thursday in Pasadena. Supporters of open carry are expressing their distress at Portantino’s ban AB- 144, which passed the Assembly’s public safety committee last week. from law enforcement has encouraged his decision to pen the bill, hopes that this open carry “loophole” is soon closed and that he stays out of the rhetorical debate.
In a phone interview on Wednesday, Portantino said that he feels that shoppers and those enjoying downtown life would rather not see weapons.
“I’m dissapointed about the rhetoric [regarding AB144]” Portantino said.

The track’s racing fans and the entire California racing industry joined in the fight against cancer by presenting the first-ever “OnTrack to Beat Cancer” event at Santa Anita . Tom Selinske scored a major victory over contender Sean Baggett with 61.4% of the vote on Tuesday night. The battle was bitter at times as were many other races in this municipal run off. Firefighters found the body of a man who was electrocuted while trimming a tree at about 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Roque Valdez, 48, of Monrovia, was trimming trees at 2181 S. Goodall Avenue in Duarte. CalOSHA has started an investigation into the
accident as a matter of course. Power to the surrounding area was cut as crews worked to retrieve his body Tuesday afternoon. The cause of the accident appeared to be a cut limb which hit a power line.
