Temple City Gateway Project Gets $1.5 Million Investment

Now that the Piazza project scandal is over, Temple City is now concentrating on the Gateway Project at the same location
with the same developer. The Gateway project (Rosemead and La Tunas) will start construction on Feb. 2012 and estimated
finish time is around August 2013 Thus far $1.5M has been invested in the project and the developer,
Man Caught Stealing Bicycle Outside El Monte Court On Wednesday, an El Monte man, who had earlier appeared in front of a judge at El Monte Superior Court for an opened container of alcohol violation,
was seen stealing a bicycle near the court entrance. A County mail deliveryman saw Suspect Hector Pineda, 45, destroying the wrought iron fencing in
an attempt to remove the locked bike, so he alerted a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Security Officer.

Duarte City Council Wants You to Run - For City Council That Is BY RUTH LONGORIA KINGSLAND If you’ve ever thought of serving on the Duarte City Council, now is the time — or hold your peace for another two years. Two seats on the fiveseat City Council are up for grabs this November,
and residents have from now until 5 p.m., Aug. 12 to throw their hat in the ring if they’d like a say in city government. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, a United States citizen, Duarte resi-
dent and a registered voter. Terms are four years. The remaining three seats will expire in 2013. Although no one signed up this week, during the first week of open filings, both incumbents,
Mayor Pro-Tem Lois Gaston and Councilman John Fasana, are expected to file to retain their council seats. As has happened in past election years, if no files to run against the in-
cumbents, there would be no election, said Kristin Petersen, assistant city manager for the city of Duarte. If there is an election, it will be run by Los Angeles County Elections and
