We have moved away from our historical outsourced product development model because we did not feel our quality met the expectations of our consumers. We now have added more than thirty engineers, designers, developers and quality positions throughout the world. We have also added an Advanced Concepts and Engineering team where we are cooking up the newest innovations and ideas for the future. Our consumers are already seeing the difference with innovations such as our patented immersion Crusher technology. Crusher provides bass you can feel (not just hear) and puts the consumer in the front row of the concert and inside of the video game or movie. You have to feel it to believe it. Other technologies that are improving the way our consumers experience their music include our patented Fix and Off-Axis technologies. Our brand’s authenticity comes from the skate parks, mountains and ocean swell. However, what makes our brand unique is our ability to combine the many pieces of youth culture to create a full youth collective. We have the ability to bring together NBA all-stars such as Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Kyrie Irving and James Harden with skate team members like Eric Koston and Theotis Beasley. Our Story Rick Alden was riding a chairlift in Park City, a snowboard beneath his feet and a problem in his hands. He wanted to listen to his music but needed to take a call. His gear made it tough to switch his headphones from one device to the other. Rick decided he could solve this problem. He knew he could do it better. He didn’t stop there. He saw a bigger issue: headphones weren’t being designed to meet his lifestyle passions. They were boring and fragile pieces of technology completely out of tune with his culture. Electronics and action sports--the two didn’t mix. Not yet. From this unholy alliance, Skullcandy was born. Skullcandy is the original lifestyle audio brand. But being first isn’t easy. In 2003, skate shops didn’t sell audio equipment and a lot of them weren’t sure they wanted to. Rick persisted. One by one he convinced them this was an idea whose time had come. And he was right. The Skullcandy brand was embraced by action sports, and Skullcandy returned the love. This brand was earned, not manufactured. The passion and dedication showed, and in less than a decade, Skullcandy grew from a garage-based startup into a publicly traded organization with offices around the world. Today, we design the best headphones in terms of style, quality, and performance at every price point we compete in. But don’t be mistaken. This is not a pat on the back for a job well done – it’s a kick in the ass to take Skullcandy to the next level. Our story is just getting started.
