BSRC AQUATIC PROGRAMS

30 MINUTES $120.00 FOR 8 CLASSES (PARENTED/SUPERVISED)

Swim Abilities program is for participants with special needs. While this program uses the progressions in the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program, the performance criteria for each level have been broken down into smaller, more manageable progressions to create a positive learning environment and make the success of each swimmer more achievable. The progressions have been created to progress swimmers with special needs slowly and at their own rate while adapting the program according to their abilities and needs.

How To Safely Return To Exercise Postpartum

Motherhood is an incredibly physically demanding time of our lives (lifting car seats/children, feeding babies/kids, changing/clothing) and we all benefit from feeling strong and capable in motherhood. We undergo many physical/mental/emotional changes postpartum and the way we think and engage in exercise or movement likely requires a shift in mindset to accommodate the current stage of life we are in. This 1.5 hour course will start off with a presentation and discussion about all things exercise and postpartum including: tissue recovery/healing timelines, pelvic health and core restoration, how to safely start exercising, injury prevention and much more. The second portion of the course will be active where you will be led through a full body resistance training program with a focus on core/pelvic floor connection. Participants will leave the course with a print out of the exercise program so they are able to continue the program independently. Bonus this is a great way to meet other Mom’s in the community!

LOW INTENSITY: RPE: 2-5- classes rated as low intensity typically use low impact movements. You are still comfortable performing exercises while challenging yourself, and you can carry a conversation during class.

RPE - Rate of Perceived Exertion

CLASS INTENSITY LEVELS:

MODERATE INTENSITY: RPE 6-8 – classes rated as moderate intensity use variations of both high and low impact exercises, also can be dependent on the participant’s preferred modifications. Comfort zones are pushed while you are starting to get short of breath and only maintain brief conversation.

HIGH INTENSITY: RPE 8-10 – classes rated as high intensity use variations of both high and low impact exercises reaching very difficult to maintain effort levels. This effort level will make you unable to maintain conversation, and leave you out of breath while pushing your limits!

All of our classes are designed to offer different intensity levels to suit the fitness needs of our entire community! While classes are rated more or less intense, do note that our certified instructors skillfully offer modifications to our fitness classes to adapt to varying fitness levels and physical limitations.

RPE – Rate of Perceived Exertion is based on a scale of 1-10. Rate of perceived exertion is a measure of effort level. A rating of 1 is rest or extremely light exercise, 2-5 ratings reflect easy-moderate exercise, 6-7 is moderate to hard, and a rating of 8-10 is vigorous exercise.
