SPORTBALL – INDOOR SOCCER

Sportball is a non-competitive sport program for children. Children are taught the fundamental skills necessary to excel in soccer: throw-ins, dribbling, passing, goalie skills and more in a supervised, non-competitive environment. They learn about field positions, importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship while having a great time!

• All gymnasts and coaches are registered and insured with the Alberta Gymnastics Federation.

• If a child has any acute or chronic injuries, please advise the coach on the first day of class.

ACRO DANCE & RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS

Young gymnasts in the community can expand their gymnastics experience with our offering of Acro Dance & Rhythmic Gymnastics! This program will focus on body awareness, hand-eye coordination, along with tumbling. They will build their skills under the coaching of a fully NCCP certified Artistic & Rhythmic Gymnastics coach. All gymnasts and coaches are registered and insured with the Alberta Gymnastics Federation.

ACRO DANCE & RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS

PARENT & TOT (2-3 YEARS OLD – PARENTED CLASS)

Introduce your child to the exciting world of gymnastics under the guidance of an NCCP certified coach. Join our qualified and FUN instructor for 30 minutes of exploration, creativity, and play. Parents will be assisting their child on various equipment (beams, mats, tunnels, mini-trampoline, etc.).

TUMBLING TOTS (3-4 YEARS OLD)

Tumblers will love learning while they explore the world of gymnastics under the supervision of a fully NCCP certified coach. Gymnasts will develop gross motor skills, basic tumbling skills through play, circuits, and games as they learn to be on their own with the coach. Please note: This is an unparented class. Gymnasts should be ready to attend without their parents.

FLIPPING FOURS AND FIVES (4-5 YEARS OLD)

Gymnasts will never be bored as they build their skills under the coaching of a fully NCCP Certified Coach. In this program, gymnasts will use all the equipment through games, circuits, and skill building. This introductory program will further the development of your child’s body awareness, rhythm, coordination, and balance. Please note: This is an unparented class. Gymnasts should be ready to attend without their parents.

FLIPPERS AND FLYERS (5-6 YEARS OLD)

Gymnasts will learn new skills and expand on old skills. This program is meant to help gymnasts tumble, jump, cartwheel and land their way through circuits, beams, bars, and floor work. Gymnastics FUNdamentals are taught by a fully NCCP Certified Coach. Please note: This is an unparented class. Gymnasts should be ready to attend without their parents.

LEAPING LIZARDS (6-8 YEARS OLD)

Young gymnasts in the Beaumont community can now benefit from this new program expansion! This program will focus on tumbling movements, balance, floor work, and beam while expanding on previously learned skills. They will build upon their basic skills under the coaching of a fully NCCP Certified Coach. Please note: This is an unparented class. Gymnasts should be ready to attend without their parents.

Edmonton Junior Tennis Society Programs

We are excited to continue our partnership with the Edmonton Junior Tennis Society (EJTS). The EJTS is a non-profit society which is focused on introducing tennis to kids as a fun sport which can be enjoyed by players of all ages. They are affiliated with Tennis Canada and Tennis Alberta, and enjoy the support of local sponsors, offering affordable and accessible tennis programs at both indoor and outdoor facilities.

The EJTS coaches are Tennis Professional Association of Canada-certified instructors who are committed to Tennis Canada’s quality standards, working on skills development while emphasizing that tennis is most of all, FUN!

Note for ALL programs: Please bring non-marking running shoes, comfortable clothing (shorts, t-shirts, sweats) and a water bottle. Labelling – all racquets and water bottles should be clearly labelled as several players will have identical or similar looking equipment. Youth racquets are required, tennis balls are provided. You can also purchase a racquet at Walmart, Sportchek, Amazon, or if you would like to shop local (Edmonton) you can check out Kevin’s Rock n’ Racquets!

Sizing a racquet:

• 19-inch racquets (4-5 years old)

• 21-inch racquets (ages 6-7)

• 23-inch racquets (ages 8- 9)

• 25-inch racquets (ages 10-12)

• 26- or 27-inch racquets (ages 13-14)

TENNIS FOR TOTS & U-7 TENNIS (COMBINED 4-7 YEARS OLD)

EJTS tennis programs are learn-to-play programs with the emphasis on fun exercises, games, and cooperative play to develop hand-eye coordination and introductory tennis skills. This program is specifically tailored to introductory tennis skills at the younger ages, introducing fundamental physical literacy movements and teaching basic racquet and ball skills. Older players will practice coordination and ball skills such as softly lofting to a partner so they can bump the ball up and eventually return it back across the net. As forehand and backhand rally skills begin to develop game playing will be introduced. Serving and volleying skills will also be introduced as players’ progress through the course. No tennis experience necessary.

U-9 TENNIS (8 & 9 YEARS OLD)

Introductory program for 8 & 9 year olds and graduating U-7 participants. This course moves quickly and game playing begins! The backhand, serve, and volley strokes are taught as solutions to real game situations. Players will engage in friendly competition in the second half of the course with technical and tactical aspects covered during play. No tennis experience necessary.

10+ TENNIS (10-15 YEARS OLD)

Introductory program for 10-15 year olds and graduating U-9 participants. The class cycles through playing and learning with both individual and team motivated games used for play. Tactics and technique are taught as solutions to game situations or ways to win points. Overhand serves are used in service games and serving boxes are now designated diagonally. No tennis experience necessary.

RACQUETS:

Youth racquets are required, tennis balls are provided. You can also purchase a racquet at Walmart, Sportchek, Amazon, or if you would like to shop local (Edmonton) you can check out Kevin’s Rock n’ Racquets!

SESSION CANCELLATION POLICY:

• Any postponed tennis sessions due to inclement weather, will be held at a different week at your regularly scheduled time, unless specified otherwise by EJTS. Participants will be notified of postponed classes via EJTS social media (Facebook and Instagram). Please ensure that you are following EJTS on social media to receive the latest updates.

Beginner Ballet For Adults

Always wanted to try ballet but didn’t want to commit to a 10 week program? This 5- week program will give you an introduction to ballet dance that includes poise, coordination, strength, alignment and basic musicality. Classical ballet classes will include a traditional barre, centre work and enchainment, with the foundation of RAD ballet technique. Suitable for all body types, fitness levels and anyone who needs a good stretch! Please bring ballet shoes or socks. Ages 18+.

Beginner Jazz For Adults

Come try jazz in this short and sweet 5-week course! Jazz is a fun and energetic dance class that emphasizes musicality, body conditioning and a whole lot of style. Class begins with a warm up that includes technique, progressing to movement across the floor such as jazz walks, kicks, turns and small jumps. Class finishes with a fun combination that gives the dancer a chance to show off what they have learned. Please bring dance shoes or socks. Ages 18+.

Social Dance Sampler For Couples

Grab a partner and learn 2 different social dances in 5 weeks! You will learn 2 styles for 2 weeks each, then a practice night. Be ready to dance at all your upcoming social events! No dance experience required! Please bring clean indoor shoes to dance in. Ages 18+.

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS (ADULT)

Canadian Firearms Safety Course

Interested in firearms? Thinking of hunting season or a trip to the range? In order to buy, borrow, or own a non-restricted firearm you must do this course. Successful students will take home the paperwork to apply for a Possession & Acquisition License.

Ages 12 and up. Minors are very much encouraged to bring a parent. We’ll cover the history of firearms, firing techniques, operation of the Six Common Actions, and safety, safety, safety. Please bring your lunch and a pen or pencil.

INTERMEDIATE FIRST AID WITH LEVEL C CPR (BLENDED)

Formerly called ‘Standard First Aid’, in this comprehensive course you will learn CPR and AED protocols for cardiovascular emergencies for adults, children and infants, and skills for dealing with choking, emergency scene management (including secondary assessment), breathing emergencies, head/spinal/pelvic injuries, and wound care (including bone and joint injuries).

This program is offered as Blended Learning which consists of the Online Portion and the Skills (In-Person) Portion. You MUST complete the Online Portion before you can gain entrance to the Skills (In-Person) Portion. It is recommended that you spend ~4-8 hours online completing the Online Portion. To ensure adequate time to do the Online Portion, registration will end one week prior to the course date.

A TASTE OF ART BEAUMONT (16+ ADULT)

Join us for various types of art brought to you by local professionals, and instructors of the Artists Association of Beaumont! We offer both progressive classes and workshop formats, so you can pick and choose which ones you would like to experience! Unless otherwise stated, supplies will be provided for all classes.

Acrylic Painting Basics

This class is perfect for beginners who aren’t ready to invest too much in materials, yet want to learn what it is like to paint with acrylics. Everything from mixing colour to applying it to the surface will be covered, leaving lots of room for playful experimentation. All supplies will be included in the course.

Oil Painting Basics Workshop

In this fun multi-week workshop you will learn the basics of how to work with oil paints while you paint. Learn techniques of blending and layering colours to create intensity and luminosity. Make some new friends and share in the joy of learning the basics of painting. At the end you will take home 2 of your own works of art!

All supplies will be included in the course. If you are a returning student and already have supplies, call Guest Services for assistance to register at the ‘no supplies needed’ rate of $110.

MINDS IN MOTION©

Minds in Motion is a program designed for people with early to mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia to enjoy with a friend, family member, or care partner. The program combines physical activity and mental stimulation in a social environment. Created by the Alzheimer Society, the 1.5 hour class starts with our certified fitness instructor leading a low-impact fitness class, and then our trained facilitator engages participants in social and cognitive activities.

Classes are limited to three participants and their care partner, providing a comfortable environment with just enough social interaction. Each session is six classes long, for $100.50.

Needlefelting

Try this beautiful craft and take home a unique, frameable felt art piece! This may look complex, but our instructor will guide you through the process of needlefelting, or, combining and compressing loose wool and other fibers into a piece of felt, creating a colourful landscape. Supplies are provided, and the needle is yours to keep.

Please bring a pair of sharp scissors.

Needle Felted Christmas Gnome

Learn to needlefelt, and make an adorable Christmas gnome! These little fellows are about 6” tall, and just SO cute! 16+ years Old. Please bring sharp scissors.

Beginners Quilting

In this class you will learn the basics of quilting. Through this four evening program, make a ‘Trip Around the World’ quilt, and learn the process of quilting. You will take home a beautiful quilt for your use or display.

This program does require that you bring your own sewing machine, notions, and supplies. The instructor can provide some quilting specific supplies to get you started, and a list of supplies will be provided. Print Making Workshop

Participants will learn how to carve a soft rubber block and print their own design which can be used to create cards for gift-giving or as coloured prints suitable for framing. Examples will be shown and participants will come away with a clear understanding of the tools, materials, process and potential for further projects.

BASKETRY – ART BASKET

Multiple species of fibers and filaments will join each other in this multimedia art basket. Bring any bells, shells, buttons or bones to add some extra flavour bonuses , and let your creativity run wild! The weaving will do the rest. Please bring sharp pruning shears and a knife. This is a 5 hour workshop, please plan to bring a snack.

BASKETRY – BIKE BASKET

Are you ready for a bit of a challenge? In this workshop, learn to weave a willow bike basket using an oval base to start. The willow is sourced from Alberta’s ditches, vigorous, plentiful, and bendable! We will learn three weaves and a border. This workshop included ‘forever mentorship’ with our amazing instructor! Bring sharp, efficient pruning shears and a sharp knife!

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS (PRESCHOOL)

PARENT’S NIGHT OUT (3-9 YEARS OLD)

CALLING ALL PARENTS! This one is for you. You deserve a night off, and we will give it to you! Bring your kiddo to us for 3 hours of fun, games, activities, and laughter, while you do what you need want to do! Our trained Child Mind attendants will look after your kids, giving you the time to shop, have a date night, clean, or just relax!

Drop-off starts at 4:45 p.m. Pick-up ends at 8:15 p.m. We will supply a healthy snack and a take-home craft. Please send your kiddo with a water bottle. We will be in touch prior to Survival Night to check on possible allergies and other concerns.

3-9 Years Old

LEARN N’ PLAY (2.5-4.5 YEARS OLD)

Come and join us for a fun filled afternoon where children aged 2.5-4.5 years will explore a variety of indoor and outdoor play opportunities! Each class will offer new experiences for unstructured active play that teaches fundamental movement skills, as well as time for socialization, stories, crafts, songs, and games. Participants must bring indoor shoes, a water bottle, a nut free snack, clothing appropriate for outdoor play, and a set of extra clothes.

SPLISH, SPLASH, AND HAVE A BASH (3-6 YEARS OLD)

Come and join us for a fun filled afternoon camp for children aged 3-6 years. This weekly camp will introduce a wide range of activities lead by our experienced Child Mind and pool leaders. Activities include a daily craft and gross motor play time followed by an interactive session in the pool. Please remember to provide your child with a nut-free snack and water bottle.

Prerequisites: Children must be fully potty trained, and participants must come dressed in proper swimwear with their swimsuits on under their clothes. Parents must be on the pool deck or in the pool changeroom at the end of the pool time.

KIDS TAKEOVER AT THE BSRC (6-10 YEARS OLD)

Get ready for a busy week of games, art, and School Break Fun! Each day will be filled with activities as you try out almost everything at the Beaumont Sport and Recreation Centre! We will be skating (Tuesday), swimming (Thursday), playing games in the fieldhouse and gymnasium, along with art projects and crafts, and special guests. Kids will need their own skates and helmet, and should be comfortable in the water. Drop off starts at 8:30 a.m., pickup runs until 4:00 p.m. Please bring lunch, snacks, a water bottle, and indoor shoes. For kids 6-10 Years Old. Can’t make the full week, but you do want to register for a couple days? There are a limited number of single day spots available. Questions? BABYSITTER SAFETY COURSE (11-15 YEARS OLD)

Get ready to be the best-prepared babysitter on the block! You will learn babysitting skills and child care, along with techniques for handling emergency situations such as bleeding, choking, treatment for burns, poisoning, wounds and artificial respiration. Participants will receive manuals and a certificate upon successfully completing the course.

PLEASE NOTE: Participants will need to bring a nut-free lunch, pencil, paper and a doll or teddy bear to practice with.

Mad Science is back this fall to bring your child an hour of STEM learning about science in a safe environment.

NASA ACADEMY (7-12 YEARS OLD)

NASA and Mad Science collaborate to educate the next generation! Children go on a voyage of discovery to space with unique hands-on activities and amazing demonstrations. They explore the sun and stars, space technology, rocket science, the atmosphere, planets and moons, supernovas, and more. They see the principles of propulsion at work in a real rocket launch (as weather permits)!

CRAZY CHEMWORKS (7-12 YEARS OLD)

This 8-week program is fun learning chemistry techniques. In this program, children make gooey slime, experiment with different reactions, and learn to use the tools that chemists use. Polymers and catalysts are only two of the fascinating concepts young scientists explore in this thrilling trip through the chemistry lab! At the end of every class, they take home an educational toy that extends the learning experience! Join this whirlpool of fun learning chemical science!

YOUNG ARTISTS OF BEAUMONT (7-13 YEARS OLD)

With an eye to promoting self-expression through art, this course uses basic mediums of pencils, crayons, pastels, charcoal and water colour to allow students to develop their creativity. They are taught some of the basics of shapes and form, drawing, colour mixing, and perspective. Separate projects will utilize different means to create individualize masterpieces to further the experience throughout the classes.

BEAUMONT BROADWAY (6-13 YEARS OLD)

Our experienced instructor will lead the class through an Introduction to Theatre. Children will have the amazing opportunity to be part of a short play/ performance that incorporates all elements of theatre including acting, movement, costumes, props and much, much more! This class will introduce them to the fundamentals of theatre, acting and improvisation in a fun, informal non-pressured environment. This class is the perfect way to let children express themselves, with their talent and creativity shining as bright as the stars of Broadway!

KIDS COMIC BOOK ART (7-13 YEARS OLD)

In this course students will learn the basics of how to tell a story through comic book art! Topics covered will include various art design skills such as: character design, building comic pages, pencil and ink skill, and being able to use their creative imagination in a comfortable and encouraging atmosphere. Students will also be given several unique art supplies throughout the course.
