2018 Construction Projects With any construction there are always challenges, and this is amplified when construction takes place in established neighbourhoods and high traffic areas. It is never the intention of Beaumont or the contractor to cause any inconvenience. For more information on all construction projects visit Beaumont.ab.ca/construction. Garbage Collection Regular garbage collection is not expected to be disrupted, place your bins out as usual. At times when garbage trucks cannot access your roadway, the contractor will collect bins from the curbside and make sure your refuse is disposed of properly. Should there be any issue with garbage pick-up please contact Alyssa Carson, Environmental Sustainability Coordinator by phone 780-929-4306 or by email at Alyssa.carson@beaumont.ab.ca. Hours of Construction Beaumont’s Noise Abatement Bylaw 642-05 Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 11: p.m.; Saturday 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.; Sundays and Statutory Holidays 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Contact Contact Alvaro Soto, Project Manager if you have any questions or concerns regarding construction and/contractor(s) by phone 780-929-4304 or by email at Alvaro.soto@beaumont.ab.ca. 2018 Neighbourhood Renewal Program (NRP) Coming to streets in Beauridge, Beau Meadows, and Glenbrae Meadows. Every year local roadways are visually inspected to assess the condition of pavement, curbs and sidewalks. Deficiencies are compared with previous ratings, then averaged for the neighbourhood. This average determines the kind of renewal needed. Factors affecting selection and timing include infrastructure condition, budget and coordination with utilities.
This Program is a cost-effective, long-term strategic approach that is designed to: • Bring infrastructure up to current design and construction standards; • Improve pedestrian safety and accessibility; • Add curb ramps to intersections; • Install lower profile roll-faced curbs or straight face curbs based on design requirements and surrounding environment; and • Consider curb extensions at pedestrian crossings near schools, community halls and playgrounds. Drainage Improvements The Town of Beaumont will be completing drainage improvements in the Four Seasons trail system, Beau Meadows (48 Street), and Gerry Patsula Lions RV Park. Drainage improvements is designed to address major ponding issues and to allow safe passage for the residents in summer and winter months. Ken Nichol Parking Lot Construction Parking lot improvements will be happening on the north half of the Ken Nichol Regional Recreation Centre parking lot and a section of 55 Avenue in order to eliminate the steep grades affecting Beaumont Transit. The Town of Beaumont will take this opportunity to install a new storm system on 55 Avenue to alleviate any ponding issues in the parking lot of J.E. Lapointe School. Township Road 510 Overlay Upgrades to Township Road 510, west of Range Road 243 will occur this construction season. The work consists of an overlay for 800m west of Range Road 243. The overlay is designed to accomplish the following: • Bring infrastructure up to current design and construction standards; • Improve drivability by eliminating the potholes; and • Provide temporary improvement until twinning is brought on by more development.

Property Assessments and Tax Notices
Upcoming Events
Beaumont’s 2018 mill rate has been set. Council adopted the 2018 Mill Rate Bylaw which reflects an average municipal tax increase of 2 percent. The average assessment value for residential properties in 2017 is $443,432. Based on this average, a homeowner would see an increase in property taxes of $4.02 per month. (This number is effective for people who are not on the Tax Installment Plan).
Kids Can Catch Sunday, June 10 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Don Sparrow Lake Beaumont and presenting sponsors invite you to come out and fish. Fishing mentors and pro-staff are pond-side to teach you the basics, from setting up your rod to casting, reeling and safe fish handling. For full details on the event and to register visit www.ab-conservation.com/events/kids-can-catch.
The annual combined assessments and tax notices will be mailed by May 31. Taxes are due June 30, with a 6 percent penalty applied on July 1. We appreciate your assistance in making payment in a timely manner. The 2018 2 percent tax increase takes into consideration Beaumont’s operations; the demands from residents on certain levels of municipal services; the impact of major projects; the requirements of a growing community; and the need to remain competitive in the Capital Region. Council strives to seek a balance between the current and future needs of residents and our community. In order to determine the assessment value of your home, assessors gather actual sales data to July 2017 to set your assessed value. Beaumont’s total assessment is based on the market value of individual properties, so your taxes may be higher or lower than the average depending on your home’s value. Beaumont will host an open house where you can meet and talk with the property assessor on Tuesday, June 12 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers. If you are unable to attend the open house and you have questions about your assessment, contact Veronica at 780-929-3306. As always, if you have questions or concerns you can contact your elected officials at the numbers below, or by email. Email links for the Mayor and Councillors are online at Beaumont.ab.ca/council
