Beaumont Communiqué
YOUR COUNCIL KEEPING YOU CONNECTED September 2017 | www.beaumont.ab.ca
Municipal Election 2017: Why vote? We are very fortunate to live in a country with a strong democracy where we regularly get a chance to exercise our democratic right on Election Day. Our forbearers earned that right for us. Voting helps to safeguard our freedoms. A democratic community can only survive if its citizens see participation in the political process as a duty and a responsibility. “Democracy is the foundation upon which all our hopes and dreams are built,” says Mayor Camille Bérubé. “It is a strong base, built by strong people using determination, belief and vision. On October 16, 2017 you will have the opportunity to exercise your rights as we go to the polls to elect a new mayor and council.” This will be the last issue of the Beaumont Communiqué released under the guidance of the current council as the next issue will see a new group of elected officials representing Beaumont. To the outgoing council, we thank you for your hard work and dedicated service. To those who choose to run again, we thank you for the continued commitment to the community and your courage in declaring yourself a candidate. To those citizens who are considering
taking a run at local politics, the positions are very rewarding and you will have an opportunity to make a real difference in your community, now and into the future. Whether you decide to run for office or not, you have a very important task to perform on October 16—you need to get to the poll and vote. The legitimacy of a government lies in the fact that it is elected. Do your part to ensure your voice is heard on October 16. The polls will be open Monday, October 16, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Beaumont Community Centre, 5204 50 Avenue. Parking is available on site and the facility is fully accessible.

While all Beaumont ratepayers receive an annual Assessment and Property Tax Notice in May of each year, the Town also has a Supplementary Assessment Bylaw that provides for a secondary assessment on properties for which permits were issued in the current year. The Supplementary Assessment & Tax Notice will reflect the number of months from which the final occupancy inspection report is issued. Supplementary Assessment & Tax Notices will be issued at the end of October, with payment due by November 30, 2017.
New Speed Limit on TWP510 The speed limit on TWP RD 510 has been reduced to 60km/h. The new speed limit has been posted from 500m east of RR244 to 150m west of RR241, which is now within Beaumont’s municipal boundaries. The roadway has seen an increase in traffic volume, serious accidents and several near misses which prompted the speed change.
Driveway Ramp Removal Fall is upon us and before we know it winter road maintenance will commence. Please remove all driveway ramps and basketball hoops from the street by October 16, 2017. Snow removal becomes difficult with the ramps in place, and can cause significant damage to the equipment. If ramps are not removed by October 16, the Public Works department will be removing them.
Keep it Green Beaumont App & Web Tool If you are a smart phone or tablet user, download the Keep it Green Beaumont curbside collection app for organics, recycling and waste. The app gives you a personalized collection calendar for your address. Plus, you can set it up to send you (or a loved one!) a reminder the night before to put out the correct bin. It provides sorting information and other valuable tools to help make it easier to manage your waste. The app is available at the Apple Store and Google Play. There is also an online web tool—a widget—that gives you the same features, at beaumont.ab.ca/curbside. So far, over 2,850 apps have been installed, and the widget has been used over 47,000 times. Way to go Beaumont!
