2017 BUDGET Aqua-Fit Phase 2 The land next to the Aqua-Fit Centre, which is currently the temporary dog park, will eventually be developed into a new recreation facility. When the original Aqua-Fit Centre was being planned over 15 years ago, the plan was always to proceed with a second phase (Aqua-Fit Phase 2).
What is being considered?
A combined field house and practice arena.
Who is assisting the Town in the process?
Following a competitive RFP process, Edmonton-based BR2 Architects has been retained.
What is the estimated budget?
• $2.4 million has been allocated for the concept plan and detailed design (this step of the process). • Preliminary estimates indicate the facility could cost $30 million. Depending on the economy at the time of construction this figure could be lower. We will continue to seek provincial and federal funding opportunities.
Next steps:
• November 2016 to February 2017 – BR2 Architects to work with users, user groups, and public to develop up to 3 concept plans. • March 2017 — Anticipated approval of preferred concept plan. • March to August 2017 – Complete detailed design to the building permit stage (shovel ready) • July/August 2017 – Anticipated approval of detailed design. • August to December 2017 – Project to be considered during the 2018 budget process.
