AQUATIC LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS LEADERSHIP COURSES

BRONZE MEDALLION/CROSS COMBO

$ 306.00

The National Lifesaving Society is the nationally accredited certification board that provides life-saving certification for lifeguards throughout the country. This course is the prerequisite to the National Lifeguard Certification that is required to work at the BSR Centre as a lifeguard. Bronze Medallion teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education - judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including learning the difference between lifesaving and lifeguarding, the principles of emergency procedures and teamwork. **Prerequisite: 13 years of age or Bronze Star** 16641

MONDAY/WEDNESDAY 4-8 PM

SEPTEMBER 23 – OCTOBER 28, 2019

*NO CLASS OCTOBER 14, 2019

NATIONAL LIFEGUARD (NLS)

$ 489.00

National Lifeguard (NLS) certification is recognized as the standard for lifeguards in Canada. NLS training develops the basic lifeguarding skills, principles and decision making process to help lifeguards create a safe and enjoyable facility. This course teaches lifeguards to prevent emergencies and respond effectively. Administration (O2) **Prerequisites: 16 years of age, current Bronze Cross, current Standard First Aid Certification** 16642

FRIDAY/SATURDAY

FRI.: 5-9 PM SAT.: 9-5 PM

NOVEMBER 29 – DECEMBER 20, 2019

RED CROSS WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR (WSI)

$ 387.50

Red Cross Swimming and water safety lessons are the preferred certification program of the BSR centre, City of Leduc and City of Edmonton. In order to teach these lessons, one must complete the Water Safety Instructor Certification. **Prerequisites: 15 years of age, current Bronze Cross or Red Cross Assistant Lifeguard, Standard First Aid.**

This program consists of 4 sections, all of which must be completed in order to receive the full certification. The four components are as follows; Online Content: Candidates will receive their deck book, workbook, and access to online modules upon registration, all of which must be completed prior to the start of the Classroom component. Candidates should allow themselves a minimum of twenty hours in order to complete these modules on time. This component must be completed before the Co-teaching portion can begin. Co-teaching: Participants will be assigned their co teaching hours upon completion of the online component. To complete this component, candidates will teach a variety of Red Cross Preschool and Swim Kids levels, giving them a solid experience base for when they will begin teaching lessons on their own. Candidates must complete a whole session of co-teaching prior to the midpoint of the classroom component. Minimum required by Red Cross is 4 hours teaching Preschool and 4 hours teaching Swim Kids, however, we would prefer candidates to participate in a full lesson set so they are familiar with the expectations from start to finish of a lesson set. Classroom & Stroke Evaluation: These components are done together and requires 100% attendance. Stroke Evaluation: Instructor will evaluate candidates based on Red Cross Swim Kids level 10 criteria **If a candidate is not successful on the first attempt of the evaluation, alternative arrangements may be set up by the instructor on a case by case basis. Classroom: Candidates will spend their time divided between a classroom setting and in the pool so they must be prepared to get in the water at any time during the course.

SWIM KIDS 10

$63.20

AGE MINIMUM: 5 YEARS

Swim Kids 10 includes a final assessment of front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, and breaststroke, for both technique and distance. Swimmers are introduced to scissor kick as a warm-up/cool-down stroke for fitness. Swimmers learn about sun safety, rescue of others from the ice, and head-first and feet-first surface dives. Endurance is built using dolphin kick drills and 500-metre distance swims. **Due to low registration, swim levels may be combined with a level above or below in order to create more class options**

ADULT & TEEN COMBINED CLASSES $56.80 All swimming abilities are welcome! In these classes, teens and adults alike will develop water confidence and skills to ensure comfort in and around the water. Depending on skill level, students can work on floats, glides, kicking, jumping into deep water, and treading water. Fitness drills suitable for individual skill levels will increase strength and endurance. For the more advanced adult and teen swimmers, working on lifesaving kicks and swimming strokes with endurance workouts take precedence, as well as activities such as shallow dives, stride entries, compact jumps, underwater swims to recover objects, and underwater somersaults. Let your instructor know the skills you would like to work on. 16590

ADAPTED AQUATICS:

$80.00

The Red Cross Swim Adapted Aquatics program is for swimmers with special needs. While this program uses the progressions in the Red Cross Swim Preschool and Red Cross Swim Kids Programs, the performance criteria for each level have been broken down into smaller, more manageable progressions to create a positive learning environment and make the success of each swimmer more achievable. The progressions have been created to progress swimmers with special needs slowly and at their own rate. 16593
