Child Care Services Supervisor Update Welcome to Fall!!

It seems like all the children are settling into their new rooms nicely and we finally have the bus route all sorted out for our kinders and School Age Site children!

On September 17th we welcomed Jasmine Henkle back to the team to cover an 18 month maternity leave. On October 1st, Ariunaa Tsend will be starting in a full-time capacity covering another 18 month maternity leave. Both Jasmine and Ariunaa will be working during the mornings at the ELCC and the rest of the day at SAS. Jamie Scott and Karissa George from the School Age Site will both be going on maternity leave, their last day is October 5th and we wish them all the best! We have also hired a new casual staff to the team, Cayley Dancause. Cayley will also be covering at both sites.

Sunshine Room Early Learning Child Care

The Sunshine Room has been all kinds of busy these past couple of weeks .The children are slowly getting used to their new surroundings .We are so excited to have this new group of children learning and being creative right alongside them .So far, the children are excited about the new challenges/toys that are within the room .We are so pleased with how well the parents are doing with drop offs , we know it’s not easy for you to walk away when your little one is upset but it is helps the children transition into care. We always make sure to send you a text and most times a picture of how your child is doing to enable you to enjoy the rest of the day. The lines of communication are open throughout the day so please feel free to send a text if you need to, we might not respond right away but we will as soon as we can.

The cold weather has come on faster than we all anticipated and some of you have expressed that you are not quite prepared with all the winter gear for your child which is understandable .We do still go outside up to -18 so be sure to get them all the gear they will need to explore the outdoor environment .So far the we are slowly putting out a lot of different materials for children to explore as we observe to see what direction they will point us in as we do the programming .We have been seeing a lot of reading , throwing balls and a great interest in action songs .

Green Room Early Learning Child Care

It is hard to believe that September has come and gone. September was a busy month in the Green Room as we all started to get use to the new routine and flow of the room, we are happy to say that everyone is settling in very well.

We have started our exploration of movement. We observed very quickly that this group of children love to move and they also like to move things around the room using big trucks, bags and their hands! When we are outside we are often playing catch, soccer or using buckets and shovels to move the sand around our sand box. Some friends have discovered that they are able to test out their ability to balance as they walk across the sand box frame. Inside we have been explore ramps and how different cars and objects move down them. Some things move very fast while others are a bit slower.

We didn’t get a chance to explain how our scholastic book orders work, so I’ll quickly fill you in on that. Usually the book orders are out the first or second week of the month and they are due back by the 15th every month. Sometime this date will change depending on when it falls during the week. Once we get the order forms we will place one in every child’s cubbie, if you would like to order any books please have them back by the 15th.

With the crazy weather that we seem to be having please make sure your child is prepared and has all the things they need for outdoor play, a second pair of mittens is always great I case one pair gets wet in the morning. Here’s to a great October and maybe some fall weather.

Welcome to October! Hopefully we have seen the last of the white stuff for at least a month. The children were thrilled when it began to snow. They loved watching it out the windows and couldn’t wait to go out and play.

September was a busy month, with everyone adjusting the room routine and getting to know each other. We were excited to welcome two new friends to our room, Finley and Samuel! Three of our friends will be turning 3 in October – Julia, Kaley and Ireland! Happy birthday to all these wonderful girls! Our focus for this month will be “How can we move things?’ This group loves to move their bodies, gather and pack things from place to place and zoom vehicles up, down and over ramps or off shelves in the room. We have planned many adventures around Beaumont and will be setting up some challenging and interesting experiences in the gym. We will be exploring the concepts of balance and gravity with a variety of materials and doing some exciting art activities. Toy Day will begin in October, and will be on Fridays. Your child is welcome to bring one toy from home, we ask that you limit it to one toy as this makes it easier for both the staff and your child. Due to the changing weather, please ensure that your child has mittens and a warm hat at the centre.

Gold Room

Fall is here, and hopefully it will be warm, sunny and beautiful, despite the early snowy days. Luckily, we can still enjoy our community parks and allow the children to develop their gross motor skills, social interactions with their peers and let them connect with nature before our harsh winter makes it more difficult.

We are happy to see how well the children have adjusted to the Gold Room routine, voicing the pride they feel to be in the big kids room. Warm welcome to Aksel and Niko, who joined us in September. Children's curious eyes, busy minds, and creative hands show us the path for planning holistic based play activities according to the curriculum framework. Following the children's interests, which we help them learn about and explore, allows us to learn more about the topics that are fascinating to them on a daily basis. Please come in and ask your child to be your guide around the room, as we have some new observation boards posted which are based on our learning journey. By the entrance, you will find the stories titled "Gold Room Learning Adventures", which will demonstrate how much your children learn every day.

As the morning weather is getting progressively cooler, please make sure you send your children with an extra pair of mittens and a warm hat, as well as a pair of splash pants in case we decide to explore puddles.

On more of a housekeeping note, we have found that, although our Friday Toy Day has allowed great fun for the children, we must ask parents that you please limit your child to one toy, and make sure that the toy is not too special and not too precious to be shared with friends. In this way, we can ensure that the children get to continue bringing their toys from home, as we love seeing them developing their sharing skills.

Starting in November, we will be taking advantage of the next-door arena by having one skating day per month. In order to participate, the children need a helmet, snow pants, and skates. If they don’t skate, they still require a helmet to be able to walk on the ice. Parents are welcome to join us.

Please take time to visit our room and ask your child to be your guide to show you their artwork, as well as the observation boards around the classroom.

Preparing your child for Kindergarten: Encourage your children to persist in tasks when encountering a problem by giving them tasks slightly above their current level. When your children cannot find a solution on their own, encourage them to calmly ask for help.

First of all, I would like to welcome all of our new families to the Kinder Room! September seems to have come and gone in the blink of an eye and we have had a wonderful time getting to know all the children and families.

The children have been busy exploring our room, and showing a specific interest in creating and following pathways! They have been using countless materials in our room to build both large and small scale pathways. Take a look at our ongoing documentation board inside the room to see exactly what we have been working on!

The children have done incredibly well at adapting to the big change in routine that is kindergarten and getting to ride the bus! We really appreciate all of your help as parents in keeping us informed about which days your child will be attending, as well as when they won’t be riding the bus. This information is important for us to know as far in advance as possible so we can ensure our bus driver is aware of who will be riding each day. When coordinating bussing and attendance for 20 children, communication is definitely key and we really appreciate all of your help and support so we can ensure the safety of all children!

Also just a friendly reminder to please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather as we go outside every day. This includes (sadly) snow or splash pants, a coat, hat or toque, and mittens. Hopefully winter stays away for a least a couple more weeks, but it’s best to be prepared once it does hit!

Last but not least, we just wanted everyone to be aware of our parent info that is available right at the doorway.

We have a binder on the water bottle shelf with a folder for each family that will hold any important information that needs to be sent home, including invoices, so please make sure you are checking it regularly. We also have a calendar written on our door that will let you know of any upcoming days you need to be aware of, such as no school days, toy days, etc. This calendar will be filled out at the beginning of each month. If there are any last minute changes we will be sure to send out a text message so everyone is aware!

Mother Nature has been playing tricks on us and forgot all about fall...Please make sure that your child has the appropriate clothing and footwear for both indoor and outdoor.

September has been busy settling into the new school year. Now that the road construction finishing up the bus times are finally working out. Please try to have your child at the site 10 minutes before it is time to catch the bus in the morning.

The staff and children spent September getting to know one another. If you have a chance please look on the corkboard wall and read the Get to Know Me T-shirts that everyone made. We learned a lot about each other. We set up the SAS Café where many of delicious meals were prepared and then turned the room into a Veterinarian Clinic You may have seen a new face around that building. That is Jasmine Henkel who is not a stranger to us as she worked with us a few years ago when Jamie was off on maternity leave when she had Nixon. She is taking one of the maternity positions and Ariunaa Tsend who has been our casual employee for the past two years is now taking the other maternity position. We are thrilled to have both Jasmine and Ariunaa on our team. Unfortunately we are going to have to say good bye to both Karissa and Jamie who will both be finished on October 5. We are super excited for both families and can’t wait for them to come visit and show off their babies. Nixon and Grayson are both going to be fantastic big brothers.

Congratulations to Gabriella our September book club winner. Everyone keep up the great work.

A reminder that if you haven’t sent in a family picture please do so. The children love looking at everyone’s family.

SAS My name is Ariunjargal (Ariunaa) I am from Mongolia and the youngest of 6 kids. I came to Canada in 2012 and live with my husband and 2 puppies in Beaumont. I graduated Mongolian university of education in 2004 as a teacher and have worked as a teacher for 6 years until I started a career with Rio Tinto at the 3rd largest copper and gold mine in the world as a training coordinator. I have always loved working kids and enjoy watching them grow.
