The ELCC had an unannounced Licensing visit on August 16th and the SAS had one on Aug 21st. Licensing reports were emailed out but if you’d like to look at them, they are posted in each room and at the SAS. Both visits went extremely well!! I wanted to thank all the parents that took the time to Nominate some of our hard working educators, teams and the ELCC program for the Minister’s Awards of Excellence in Child Development. Once nominations have been confirmed, I will send it out. Thanks for recognizing the hard work and efforts everyone puts in everyday! Also a quick thank you to all the parents, grandparents and friends that attended the Child Care Review Community Engagement session on September 9th. We truly appreciate the support and can’t do this without you guys!! We have a few things happening at both sites coming up in the next month: *Gold Room will be participating in inter-generational activities at the Senior’s center on Wednesday mornings in October starting October 2nd from 9:15-10:15am. We have been wanting to plan something with the senior’s program for quite a while so we are excited that this has finally come to fruition!! *ELCC – Alberta Health Services will be set in our entrance way on Thursday October 17th from 3:30-5pm to offer Fluoride treatments to children. This is free and totally optional. There is a poster attached in this newsletter for more information. *School Age Site – we are partnering with Beaumont FCSS to offer a Home Alone course for parents to attend with their children on Saturday November 2nd from 1012. This is a parented course for children 9 years or older. Please register you and your child at: FCSS@beaumont.ab.ca - There is also a poster attached in this newsletter with additional information. The Home Alone course will no longer be offered to children under 10 years old and we will not be offering it as part of the programming this year. We will, however, be offering the course for children 10-12 years old, attending the SAS during Spring Break. It will be a one day course, 9-3pm and they will be bussed to the FCSS office with a staff to take it with the instructor for the day. The 10-12 year old course offered then will not be parented. Hope you all have an enjoyable Thanksgiving and a FUN Halloween with your children! A great welcome to our Sunshine Room families for 2019-2020 .We have had a fantastic start to the new year and although it may not seem or sound like it at drop offs, the children are doing awesome .We are especially proud of the parents as you have been doing a good job handing over your little ones and walking away .We know this is not easy but you are doing it so well that your little ones are taking less and less time to settle down after you are gone. We will continue communicating with you and sending you pictures as much as we can so you can see how they are doing during the day and we are sure it makes your day go by better. For most of you this is the first time dropping off your little one and spending so much time away from them but it will get better. We appreciate you entrusting us to care and nurture your little one. There is a lot that is still new to most of you so we will send reminders as often as possible for things we need. At the moment we have noticed that some of the children do not have an extra set of clothes. These are very important as we do a lot of messy but fun activities and sometimes we just end up in places where we shouldn’t so it’s ideal to have a full set of clean clothes ready. We are finding that in the morning the park is quite wet so it would be a good idea for the children to have splash pants so they can enjoy exploring outside and we don’t have to worry about them getting soaked/sick from the wet ground. Please feel free, especially at pick up, to come in and look around the room to see what the children have been up to. We only ask that you take off your shoes as the little ones spend a lot of time on the floor so we like to keep it as clean as possible. Tendai and Lorena

It has been a very busy month in the Green Room and we are beginning to settle in to our new room and routine! This month we will be welcoming three new children, Leah, Evan and another Greyson, they will all be starting on October 1st. This month we have been focusing on connecting with the children and getting to know them a bit better as we play. We have been observing their interactions with others and the toys in our room and we have quickly noticed that there is a big interest in caregiving. The children are spending a lot of time in the house corner feeding each other and taking care of their babies. They are also very aware of what’s happening in our room and are so very helpful when a friend may be sad or if they need help finding their shoes! We are very excited to explore this interest with the children and can’t wait to see where it will take us. Thank you to everyone who sent in family photos for our collage wall, the children are really enjoying all the pictures and really like that they are able to take them off the wall. We made sure to make a few extra copies in case they go missing! A few reminders:  With the weather changing the mornings can be pretty chilly, if you could send a winter hat for the mornings and a thin pair of mittens we would greatly appreciate. It’s that time of year where our outside cubbies get a lot fuller because you truly need two different outside outfits. One for the cold mornings and one for the warm afternoons.  This month we will also be updating our Emergency Cards, this is something we do every year to ensure we have the correct information and phone numbers in case there ever was an emergency. We will be photocopying your child’s emergency card and providing you with a update form, if anything needs to be updated or changed we kindly ask you to just fill in the items that do need to be change on the update form as it is a lot of work for our admin assistant to decipher what needs to be change and what stays the same if the entire form is filled out!

September was a great month in the Rainbow room. We have all enjoyed getting to know the children and their families, the children have settled into the routine of the room and are doing well. Welcome to Beckett and Jacob who started in the Rainbow room on September 3rd, they are a great addition to our team. The children have been very interested in all the construction vehicles operating outside the window. They check the progress daily and like to talk about what each different construction vehicles job is… we will be examining all these jobs as our new focus. We will be exploring the concepts of digging, pushing, pulling, dumping, hauling, flattening, pouring and demolishing. We will also be going on community walks to check out other construction sites and take pictures of any construction vehicles we observe. In addition to our planning, we also have a “Living Wall” in our room where we post the children’s daily discoveries, this wall changes often so please have a look. Thank you, Beth, Tammy and Simran

Fall is here, and hopefully it will be warm, sunny and beautiful. Luckily, we can still enjoy our community parks and allow the children to develop their gross motor skills, social interactions with their peers and let them connect with nature before our harsh winter makes it more difficult. We are happy to see how well the children have adjusted to the Gold Room routine, voicing the pride they feel to be in the big kids’ room. Children's curious eyes, busy minds, and creative hands show us the path for planning holistic-based play activities according to the curriculum framework. Following the children's interests allows us to learn more about the topics that are fascinating to them on a daily basis. Present interests include building, beauty parlor, our pet gecko, science, and the season's natural treasures. Please come in and ask your child to be your guide around the room, as we have some new observation boards posted which are based on our learning journey. By the entrance, you will find the stories titled "Gold Room Learning Adventures", and the Vivacious Wall, which will gradually expand, evolve and demonstrate how much your children learn every day. On more of a housekeeping note, we have found that, although our Friday Toy Day has allowed great fun for the children, we must ask parents that you please limit your child to one toy, and make sure not to send toy weapons that may provoke aggressive behaviors. In this way, we can ensure that the children get to continue bringing their toys from home, as we love seeing them developing their sharing skills. October will be the starting month of our new initiative, where our children will visit the seniors of our community and spend one hour per week interacting with them. It will be a great opportunity for new friendships to bloom, as well as community involvement for our youngest citizens. Starting in November, we will be taking advantage of the next-door arena by having one skating day per month. In order to participate, the children need a helmet, snow pants, and skates. If they don’t skate, they still require a helmet to be able to walk on the ice. Our skating days will be: November 13, December 10, January 14, February 11, and March 3. Parents are welcome to join us. Preparing your child for Kindergarten:  Encourage your children to persist in tasks when encountering a problem by giving them tasks slightly above their current level. When your children cannot find a solution on their own, encourage them to use words and calmly ask for help.

Happy Birthday to Julia, Kaley and Ireland!!

Welcome, all of our new families to the Kinder Room! September flew by and we have had a wonderful time getting to know all the children and families. The children have been busy exploring our room, and showing a specific interest in creating and following pathways! They have been using countless materials in our room to build both large scale and small scale pathways. Take a look at our ongoing documentation board inside the room to see exactly what we have been working on! They also seem to still show an ongoing interest for science experiments so we will continue to implement them into our planning! Another huge interest has been board games!!! The kinder’s have recently explored checkers, chutes and ladders, tic tac toe, and go fish! If anyone has old games at home, we are more than happy to take any donations. The children have done incredible adapting to the big change in routine that is kindergarten and getting to ride the bus! We really appreciate all of your help as parents, in keeping us informed about which days your child will be attending, as well as when they won’t be riding the bus. This information is important for us to know as far in advance as possible so we can ensure our bus driver is aware of who will be riding each day. When coordinating bussing and attendance for 20 children, communication is definitely key and we really appreciate all of your help and support so we can ensure the safety of all children! Last but not least, we just wanted everyone to be aware of our parent info that is available right at the doorway. We have a binder on the water bottle shelf with a folder for each family that will hold any important information that needs to be sent home, including invoices, so please make sure you are checking it regularly. We also have a calendar written on our door that will let you know of any upcoming days you need to be aware of, such as no school days, toy days, etc. This calendar will be filled out at the beginning of each month. If there are any last minute changes we will be sure to send out a text message so everyone is aware! Thanks again and if you have any questions please feel free to talk to Jodi or Sarah or text at 780-862-3207

SCHOOL AGE SITE

Program Coordinator, Shirley Webster Program Assistant, Jasmine Henkel Program Assistant, Ariunaa Tsend Program Assistant, Ingrid Holtz

September was a busy month getting to know one another and working through our feelings about going back to school and starting our winter activities. Since the weather has been so nice we have been going outside as much as possible. Jackets, hoodies or sweatshirts are good to have on hand as it does cool down a bit after school. Also a reminder that your child needs indoor shoes. Our topic has been on aero dynamics which the children are having fun experimenting on how to make their paper airplanes fly the best. We will be continuing on with this for the next while. The WII Room formerly lego room will be turned into the “Flight Centre. A reminder that for the children that take the bus, the bus leaves at 7:50 in the morning. If possible please have your child at the site a few minutes before hand. After school we are on a very tight schedule picking up from school to school so they have to be as quick as possible getting to the bus stop. Please inform us at 780-862-7803 by 2:45 if your child will not be riding the bus in the afternoon. Sadly we have to say goodbye to Meaghan. With her school schedule being so busy she is finding it hard to combine the two. We will miss her and wish her all the best in her future.

Birthday wishes go out to: Jessica October 1 Justin October 3 Kaya October 5 Nikolas V October 5 Happy Birthday to all! We hope you have a fantastic day!!
