WHAT IS CLADDING?
Cladding is a material used to enhance the appearance of the outside of a building, or it can be a great natural feeling feature indoors.
What do I need to know?
◊ Any tile with a low water absorption (under 3%) can be used as cladding. We see many modern homes using floor tiles for wall cladding. Other times cladding looks are commonly stone or marble.
◊ Natural Product VS Porcelain. Natural product needs the standard stone TLC. Our porcelain options come in an array of looks, colours and sizes. Even better, these non-porous beauties won’t fade or be rough when you brush against them.
Beautiful & Functional Wall Cladding

FAQ’S
What is wall cladding?
Cladding refers to the material that is fixed to the outer walls of your home to create a weatherproof layer. External cladding can be made of various materials, including stone, porcelain, timber, fibre cement or metal, depending on the needs of your structure. This process involves layering one material on top of the other to create a protective external layer that can withstand various weather conditions and environmental factors.
What are the benefits of wall cladding?
Exterior cladding offers several benefits to a residence. It can improve the appearance of a structure when you use quality materials like stone. Cladding is also a proven method for protecting buildings against extreme weather and other irritants that may adversely affect your homes, such as pests or pollutants. It can even help to absorb sound, making it a practical choice for those looking to manage their acoustics better and surrounding noise pollution.
Investing in external cladding using materials like natural stone can also help to protect against structural deterioration and make your household more energy efficient.
How is wall cladding installed?
Installation all depends on the type of wall cladding you are using and if it is external cladding or internal wall cladding. The first thing to do is to find a quality installer, they should then be able to lead the process and achieve the quality look you are after. Double-check your stone or porcelain order alongside your wall measurements, and make sure it includes enough for breakages and allowances for any corners. Also, make sure you use have high-quality adhesives to ensure that your cladding is successful long-term.
The foundation of your installation needs a solid footing and be structurally sound to support the wall. We strongly suggest that when installing natural stone, or even porcelain with a highly variated design, you do a dry-lay first to make sure that you and your installer are on the same page and that you get the result you want. Then over to your professional installer to prepare the surface and install it. We recommend that natural stone is sealed, especially if it is external and exposed to the weather.
Is wall cladding waterproof?
Quality exterior cladding should be water-resistant to help protect the building from adverse weather and extreme conditions. Without the ability to repel water and moisture, the cladding can deteriorate and become a breeding ground for mould and other problems that can cause staining. Choosing quality cladding materials like stone or porcelain wall cladding will help ensure that your installation is waterproof, providing maximum protection for your home.
How long does wall cladding last for?
Depending on the type of cladding you choose for your installation, these materials can last a long time with little maintenance. External cladding that uses stone or porcelain can be exceptionally durable, but requires cleaning and care to maintain its appearance when confronted with the elements.
SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
Some stone is very heavy and could pose a safety risk if it falls from heights. Contact the manufacturer of the substrate you are attaching the stone to, and ensure you are not attaching more than the maximum allowable load (substrates will vary).
Wall Tiling Applications
For all wall tiling applications, it is critical to be aware of the substrate ‘load bearing’ weight, tile size, tile weight, as well as height restrictions.
If the wall tiling application exceeds 2.7 metres in height and/ or the weight of the tiles is greater than 32kg per square metre, mechanical fixings such as ‘stainless steel angles’ or ‘pinning’ must be incorporated into the wall tiling system to assist with the ‘load bearing’ weight of the tiles, in conjunction with the recommended tiling adhesive system.
BACKGROUND PREPARATION
Priming of Hebal Blockwork (where applicable)
Due to the porosity of Hebel Blockwork, 2 coats of primer is required. Allow the Primer to dry for a minimum of 20 minutes between coats and for a further 30 minutes prior to the commencement of wall tiling.
Materials
The Tiles should comply with the relative standard and should be suitable for the application. Tiles must be dry and the back of the tile should be clean and free from loose backwash.
Adhesives
Choosing the right adhesive is important and is determined by the porosity of the tile and substrate material, location and conditions. Check with your local Beaumont Tiles store. They will advise you of the best adhesive to use.

CLEANING NATURAL STONE
Natural stones such as marble, travertine or limestone all contain different forms of calcium carbonate which is adversely affected by acid. When cleaning natural stone, care must be taken when selecting the cleaning solution.
When it comes to natural cleaners, lemon juice and vinegar are often the main ingredients, however, these "natural ingredients" are actually worse for natural stone than almost every other cleaner. In fact, all acidic cleaners cause natural stone to dull and etch over time.
Avoid using all acidic, alkaline or abrasive cleaners which may permanently scratch or damage the product. DO NOT use the following; Acidic Tub & Tile Cleaners, Acidic toilet cleaners, Ammonia, Powered Abrasive Cleaners, Soft Paste Cleaners, Vinegar, Window Cleaners, Abrasive Cleaning Pads or Citric Cleaners.
Hot Tip: DO NOT USE products that contain lemon, vinegar or other acids on your natural stone!
Clean stone surfaces with a few drops of a ph neutral cleaner. Use a clean rag mop on floors and a soft cloth for other surfaces for the best result. Too much cleaner or soap may leave a film and cause streaks on the surface. Rinse the surface thoroughly after washing with soap and dry with a cloth. Change the rinse water frequently. DO NOT USE scouring pads or creams as they contain abrasives that may scratch the surface.
Frequently mop interior floors using a clean un-treated dust mop. Most damage to natural stone is caused by sand, dirt and grit. Mats or area rugs inside and outside an entrance will help minimise abrasive grit. Ensure the underside of the mat or rug is a non-slip surface. Do not use vacuum cleaners that are worn where metal or plastic attachments or wheels may scratch the surface.
