The outdated splashback tiles were replaced with contemporary and calming Green Gloss Concave Fan Mosaic tiles. Cherie did encounter a renovation drama though when the backing board came off with the old tiles. They were racing against the clock to get a new board in while the tiler was still on site after tiling the patio. Luckily, it was sorted in the nick of time! The patio also got the Cherie-treatment to make the entrance to the home fitting of the spruced-up living and dining room within. Cherie added stunning new Arcade Central Multicolour tiles, paint, plants in the windowbox and a seating area.

Cherie saw instant potential in the garage. She knew it was big enough to be an office and living space, and so much more. “I also want to open this space up and invite the outdoors in. It’s a big job, but I know exactly what to do,” she said. With all the clutter gone, Cherie was able to inject a design that evoked a sense of calm for the family. The garage conversion means Rob has gone from working at the dinner table to a space with two desks and a whole lot more. To make the office space relaxing, Cherie used green tiles on the wall. Green was specifically chosen because it’s been proven to have a calming effect on people when they look at it. Cherie also added soft warm lights and plenty of storage.

Cherie replaced the kitchen splashbacks with a gorgeous green tile that helped give the home a Hawaii vibe. The laminate benchtops were replaced with granite and she opted for new blinds that let light in and provide privacy. Once the clutter was out of the house Cherie realised every room “was in desperate need of attention”. That meant she decided to makeover the entry, dining area, living room, kitchen, master bedroom, Ayla’s bedroom and baby Austin’s nursery. “It’s going to be the biggest renovation we’ve ever attempted,” she said. The transformed kitchen is now a refreshing and inviting space the couple will enjoy preparing meals in. “It’s everything I’ve ever wanted - thank you. I’m going to be so proud to show everybody and have people over. It’s going to change our lives,” Caroline said of the renovation.

The bathroom brought the whole renovation to a halt when Cherie discovered asbestos in the walls. This was one area of the renovation Cherie spared no expense on, so the site was shut down, and experts were brought in to safely remove the dangerous material. Once that was done the renovation got back underway. To inject some personality into the space, Cherie chose the beautifully patterned Australian-made tile Flourish Petal Coral for the bathroom floor. This was contrasted by a tiled feature wall of Atmosphere Coral Gloss against Atmosphere White Gloss Structured tiles on the other walls. “I’m going for a soothing elegant feel in the bathroom, by the time I’ve added a new vanity unit, shower and bathtub it will look amazing,” she said.

A sleek white kitchen gave the apartment a modern feel and helped open up the space. Cherie tied the living spaces together by adding the same brown mosaic splashback in the kitchen and home office. Dennis and Michelle were particularly excited by Cherie’s surprise addition to their kitchen - a coffee machine. “You’re awesome Cherie,” Denis exclaimed! Vertical storage in the laundry gave everything its own spot. “This is my dream,” Michelle said.
