SELLING HOUSES AUSTRALIA , a FOXTEL Original returns for its 15th season with Award-winning host and real estate expert Andrew Winter, interior design expert Wendy Moore and landscape designer Dennis Scott in the program’s most ambitious and challenging season to date.

With a backdrop of rising interest rates, falling real estate values and financially strapped homeowners, our team really have their work cut out for them to turn truly unsellable homes into real estate gems that stand out from the pack.

From all around Australia, every episode reveals a unique, troubled property and its owners in desperate need of help for their homes which will not sell in any market.

How would you feel if you had to sell the house that you had lived in for over 50 years?

Our homeowners, Richard, and Corinne are doing just that! They are desperate to sell so they can move down to Canberra to be closer to their family… Unfortunately, they haven’t had a lot of luck selling.

The home itself could be something from a museum, it’s like a preserved time capsule of design history. Floral wallpaper, green carpet tiles and a pastel bathroom, what’s not to love? Richard and Corinne need the Selling Houses Australia team to help transform their property so they can sell and make the move down south!

Instead of a complete, pre-designed bathroom package, Wendy has created a new bathroom from scratch. The new bathroom is quite small, but we were able to pack in a shower, bath, and toilet. While it was important to have a toilet inside, it was also really important to fit a bath in too. Families looking at this home with young kids want to know they can bath their kids easily.

A mix of tile size, texture and colours were complimented with a white basin, green vanity, and brushed brass hardware. And to complete the look Wendy had designed a feature panel to go behind the vanity.

Wendy completed the look with a feature panel behind the vanity featuring our Cascade Orient Green! Den tiled the porch with our show stopper Sync Circle Green!

In 2004, Andrew and Caryl purchased land and built their forever home in Redland Bay.

Twenty years down the track, they are left with no other option than to sell their home to avoid bankruptcy.

They never had any intention of selling and their property wasn’t even on the market. However, Andrew’s business took a huge financial hit which resulted in having to close the company and being left with substantial debt repayments. They have been working around the clock to try and save their home. Close friends of Andrew and Caryl reached out to the Selling Houses team for help and set the goal of selling the house for the highest price possible. This could very much make the difference between the couple having to declare bankruptcy or not.

Dennis knows how important it is in Queensland to have space outside to gather and entertain. Therefore, Dennis freshened up the decking area with a new coat of paint and created an outdoor kitchen on the front balcony. Dennis chose our Majorca heritage White to create a stunning splashback for the new BBQ!

Romano and his wife Iris moved to Australia from Italy over 30 years ago, and in 2010 settled in Maroubra, NSW.

When the home was put on the market in 2018, it was quickly snapped up by a developer, but this deal later fell through. Romano then sadly lost his wife of over 50 years and was left living alone in a home that felt too big for one. Romano’s daughters, Eliana and Andrea, worry about the stairs and differing levels of the house, and think their Dad needs to let go of the house in order to move onto the next chapter of his life.

It has been a heartbreaking two years for the family. They know the home is tired, old-fashioned and needs fixing up. They can’t renovate the house by themselves and desperately need the help of the Selling Houses team. A sale would mean the family could find a new home which is more comfortable for Romano, where they all can live.

Dennis wanted to make the home appealing from the first moment and went about this by painting the whole exterior of the home in a monument colour to make it stand out and create a modern feel. Dennis chose the charming Versailles Mosaico White tiles to brighten up what was once a dark and dirty front entrance.

They have had a busy couple of years running their amusement ride business, planning their dream travel adventure, selling their business and now they need to sell their home.

Their home is dark, gloomy and worn down. The colour scheme both internally and externally needs serious work to make the space more inviting and lighter.

Given the size of the home and other priorities, the budget wouldn’t stretch to a new kitchen. However, the tropical splashback needed attention and was stripped back and replaced with a classic marble look tile to create a more luxurious feel. The main bathroom of the house was Wendy’s big-ticket item of the renovation. The bathroom was very dated and unpractical in size. An 8-bedroom home needed a grand family bathroom to match! Smart design saw the bathroom and separate toilet being combined to create a large glamourous bathroom with a free-standing bath, double vanity and tiled feature wall!

EPISODE 8: COMO, NSW
Gareth and Esther are stuck in a rut. They don’t understand why no one would be interested in their property and can’t see any faults with it.
