What is Ombre? Ombre is a hair color look which is getting talked about all the time these days in hair salons. Ombre is basically a partial hair coloring technique with hair color fading from one color to another. Quite often the fade is from dark to blonde as you go out from the roots to the ends. But sometimes the fade can go the otherway, with light rrots and dark ends. Ombre can also involve the use of many innovative colors. Ombre can look quite informal, like grown-out highlights. But they can also look very fashionable when done with interesting colors. In terms of color, the word ombre refers to shading from light to dark, dark to light or from one colour to another. So far, mostly brunettes embraced hair colour transitions from dark to light. Now, blondes have joined the trend by colouring the hair ends in a darker shade. The transition to a darker shade usually starts at ear level. Hair salons love doing ombre, because it's easy, quick and always a success. Women love ombre because ombre is an easy color change, flattering and low maintenance.

How Do You Do an Ombre? Ombre hair is fairly easy from a tachnica point of view but it does that the stylist have a special touch and there does need to be an overall coloring scheme. Everything depends on how the stylist chooses the colors. Ombre hair coloring always works well if the hair close to the roots already shows a darker natural color. Ombre hair colouring works best in combination with accurate middle parting and soft waves. And always cut hair before doing an ombre because more than any other technique, the success of an ombre depends on the placing. Ombre hair works very well with fairly dramatic colur transition. So don’t be scared and do try a contrasting color. If you are too timid, you will end up with a very messy color result and leave your customer disappointed.

Very often, ombre is a 2 step process. The First Step involves preparing, coloring the hair from the root down to 5 inches away a color which is very often quite close to the natural hair color, or at least fairly muted relative to the ombre that is going to be placed on the roots area later on. The Second Step involves highlighting the ends, generally with a lighter color. This can be done using a classic balayage technique. Foils can be used as well. Very often the 2 steps can be done one after the other, without processing or washing in between.

Who Should Go For Ombre? Ombre works particularly well on mid-length hairstyles, slightly sporty hairstyles, particularly ones that are curled or wavy or tousled. The Ombre effect acts like a “spotlight on the bottom part of the hair and gives depth and dimension. Ombre is also good for women whose hair is a little dry. This is because Ombre has the cosmetic effect of "brightening up" the ends of the hair, which is very often the part which is most dry!Ombre hair looks quite natural and therefore suits most women and styles, especially since the shades may include the natural hair colour. Due to the natural look, the colour needs a touch-up only every three or four months, which makes wearing ombre hair fairly convenient. Ombre hair does look like a grown out highlight, especially after a month or so. This is why Ombre is always regarded as a very low-maintenance hair color style. No need to return every 6 weeks for a touch up - just let it fade !!
