EDITOR’S NOTE
Taking the helm of the last issue of Beaux for 2011 was not an easy task. It is endless hours of sorting through press releases, photo shoot preparations, writing, chasing deadlines and sleepless nights. But we are lucky to have the contributions from many talented photographers and stylists as well as writers, which make what Beaux is: a collaboration of a group of creative people putting our hearts and efforts together. The result is what we are presenting to you now. I hesitate to say this is the Christmas issue, but no doubt with the holiday seasons just around the corner, it is hard to ignore this special holiday as we all begin to prepare for festivities and celebrations. The joys of sharing and giving are what makes Christmas so extraordinary and often we all get caught up in the material world that we forget an act of kindness to those in need is just as significant. But we have not forgotten those who are always looking for ideas to that special gift under the tree. I believe this issue of Beaux will give you many valuable tips and suggestions, and in case anyone on the Beaux team is on your gift giving list, we have given you our Christmas wish list as well! We don’t ask for much! I will not go into too much details here of what this issue is about. I think the pages can speak for themselves. We are, however, very grateful to everyone who has supported Beaux from our first issue on; from the Beaux team, to fashion brands, contributors, our readers and everyone who believed in Beaux. We have no better way to show our gratitude than to now, present you with our latest. Beaux will be going through our second phase after the New Year, so stay tune for bigger and better things in the near future! Again, here it is our Christmas gift to you, Beaux Magazine. I hope you will like it as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year to you all! Peace! Patryk Chaou Chief Editor

GIUSEPPE REGGIANI
Born and raised in the US, and at a tender age of 19, Wendy is perhaps one of the youngest photographers Beaux has worked with. Having lived in New York, California, Tokyo and Hong Kong, she has a perfect eye for details and her photos are sensitive and passionate.
Clarens Tyson is a young photographer from Montreal, Canada. Photography is just a small part of the creative imagination of this 21 years old artist . He started experimenting with photography in February 2011; his goal is to express his vision to the world through photography through fashion, film, and styling.
Giuseppe Reggiani hails from Italy, having made his first start in photographing American vintage cars in 2001 using film cameras. He says that from that point onwards, his goal was to become a ‘real’ photographer. Having never trained as a photographer, he learnt most of his trade from friends, in particular Jacopo Manfren, who he considers a master at photography.
Beaux Fashion Director Patryk Chaou and Make Up & Beauty Director Wil Wu teams her up to create one of the most beautiful and sensual spreads featuring some of the few best fashion brands for Fall / Winter 2011. thesunlighter.blogspot.com

QEELIN BAO PING CAMPAIGN Inspired by the caves of Dunhuang during his visit in 1997, Creative Director Dennis Chan decided to bring modernity into China’s arts and craftsmanship with Qeelin. Blending the mythical essence of Chinese cultural heritage with the excellence of French craftsmanship through the medium of contemporary fine jewelry design.
To capture Qeelin’s newest 2011 Collection “Bao Ping,” Dennis recently teamed up with acclaimed French photographer Sandra Fourqui, for a shoot at Chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte just south of Paris. Steeped in the grandeur of 17th Century architecture and exquisite and eclectic ornamentation, Vaux-le-Vicomte seamlessly matches Qeelin’s philosophy of combining time-honoured crasftamanship with bold innovation and individuality. Merging 300 years of ancient Chinese art with French history, the castle served as a fitting backdrop for the “Bao Ping” Campaign. Like many of Qeelin’s bestloved collections, Bao Ping fuses aesthetic and cultural traditions of East and West by drawing on the legend of ancient Chinese Bao Ping vases which symbolized security and harmony, a quick peek inside reveals a fresh and modern kaleidoscope of colours. www.qeelin.com

Ethan Ruan and Cartier Ballon Bleu
BEAUX 14
by Komphech Akkarasetthi
In 1847, Louis-François Cartier inherited a small jewelry workshop from his master Adophe Picard at 29, Rue Montorgueil in Paris and founded the House of Cartier. When Princess Mathilde, niece of Napoleon I and cousin to Emperor to Napoleon III made her first purchase from Cartier, the House quickly became synonymous with luxurious jewelries and coveted watches worn by Royalties from France, Great Britain, Spain, Portugal, Russia, Greece, Belgium, Romania, Egypt, Albania and Serbia. Even far away kingdoms such as Siam was not immune to Cartier’s charm. Cartier became known as the “Joaillier des Rois, Roi des Joailliers” (Jeweller to Kings, King of Jewellers). Today, the House operates more than 200 stores in 125 countries across the globe and produces a large range of products from exclusive timepieces and jewelries to leather goods and eyewear. In keeping constant with the House’s innovation and heritage of quality, Cartier has recently teamed up with Taiwanese heartthrob Ethan Ruan for their Ballon Bleu Collection.

While growing up, Ethan has always been taught to become a dependable and responsible man and this is something he has always tried to achieve. His one hero in his life is his grandfather.
BRand Story
In person, Ethan possesses the rare innocence and naivety of a boy and the warm romantics of a man. Having started his career as a model, he was exposed to fashion at a young age. At the same time, Ethan is athletic and outgoing, and also enjoys sports such as swimming and car racing. His personality is exactly what Cartier Ballon Bleu Collection represents- it is the pinstriped suit banker or an uninhibited devil-may-care young man driving down a country road looking for trouble. Suitable for the age 18 – 38, the Ballon Bleu is a reflection of every man’s dream—whether he is innocent, romantic or someone totally unexpected and always looking for excitement. This is also the reason for Ethan’s choice for the Ballon Bleu. The watch’s elegance matches Ethan’s personality perfectly. “No matter which style of the Ballon Bleu, once you put it on, it will change your feeling about yourself—a feeling I cannot get from other watches,” explains Ethan.
BEAUX 17
With his recent win of the Best Actor Award at the Taiwan Golden Horse Film Awards last year for his role in the movie “Monga,” Ethan Ruan has always been pushing himself in the roles he plays. His humble beginning as a model to becoming one of the most sought after film stars in Asia has also been greatly reflected his metamorphosis from a vibrant teenager to a sophisticated young man.

While growing up, Ethan has always been taught to become a dependable and responsible man and this is something he has always tried to achieve. His one hero in his life is his grandfather. “No matter if my grandfather was in his up or down point in his life, he has always thought of his family first. And no matter how bad a situation is, he has always used love to accept and resolve the situation.” Ethan has learnt this adage at a young age and feels the most important thing a man can do is to love and protect his family and all those he loves. He hopes one day, he too can be in the same position as his grandfather. He has also found that his understanding of love greatly reflects the Cartier Trinity Collection. “I admire very much the meaning behind the Trinity Collection of love between spouse, friends and family. For me, all three things are very important and if any one of these parts is missing, my life will not be complete at all. Therefore, if I have to choose one thing to represent my love for someone, I will definitely choose Trinity.” The Ballon Bleu collection is something Ethan definitely wants to pass on to his children. “A watch for a man is not only an instrument for telling time, but also a reflection of memories the passing of time represents. It may take me a long time, in order for me to pass down my Ballon Bleu to my son, because I want him to understand the importance of the watch and the importance of the experiences and situations he will meet in life and what they mean for him. It is only at the right time and situation I will give him my Ballon Bleu watch.”

From the coldest winds found at the highest mountain all the way down to the street level, Moncler’s signature quilted jackets have become the first choice of winter garment for celebrities, athletes, and international singers to name a few. Established in France in 1952 and then becoming an Italian brand in 1992, Moncler has continuously embraced the changing of the times for 60 years. Combining technology and nature, mountain and city, functionality and aesthetics, such criteria thus put Moncler the most recognizable label at the international level.
At the initial stage, the goose feathers are cared in specific and controlled areas where strict and proper techniques are carefully followed since the goose down are at the very of quilt-jacket making. The down have proven to have an 85 percent insulating power and a lightness that allows little clothing undernearth.
Real Experience Do Matter

Moncler was first introduced six decades ago when French entrepreneur René Hamillon created equipments based from quilted materials to combat the harsh reality of mountain climbing at a high altitude when the weather is unstable at any given time. Hamillon’s visionary creations have inspired change in the way people wear winter clothing. For one, winter athletes have used Moncler’s as part of their successful performance in their sports. In the Moncler V collection, Japanese designer Hiroki Nakamura reinvented 20 historic pieces from the Moncler archive with distinctive inspirations like an eclectic mix of patchwork and using a color palette of orange, red, and turquoise. Meanwhile in the Gamme Bleu collection, designer Thom Browne uses British tweeds and English wools to create a hand-tailored collection. For the Moncler woman, the Moncler S collection is an example of futuristic and ultra-feminine creativity of which was designed by Japanese designer Chitose Abe. The Moncler S quilted jackets have flowing lines, airy shapes and formal purity. Moncler’s other collections include inspirations taken from aviators, seafarers, and a focus on female high couture.

Moncler Against Frauds Quality control is important for Moncler. Launched in the 2009 spring/summer collection, Monclear had wanted to reinforce the authenticity of its products through a verification system. Monclear, with the involvement of the Certiligio service, has devised a system where the consumer can check if a garment is authentic by looking at the unique, item-level identification code that is sewn on each label and then can be confirmed by inputing the code at www.certilogo.com. And in October 2010, Moncler went even further when it adopted the first E-commerce – an extension of the Certiligo service specifically designed for preventing customers from unintentionally purchasing fakes on the Internet. So far, Moncler has seized thousands of fake garments, created a list of unauthorized websites and has recovered domains affected by the fake selling scheme.

More Than A Pretty Face... Lawrence Wong
BEAUX 70
By Patryk Chaou Photographed By Norm Yip Lawrence and I first made contact on Friendster through an old colleague’s introduction 8 or 9 years ago. At the time we met, Lawrence was already modeling and had been participating in numerous theatre and television productions since the age of 15. He was even nominated in 2002 for the DBS Life! Theatre Awards for his work in the play “This is Not An Apple”. In December of 2005, I finally had a chance to meet Lawrence in person at a small Indian hawker stall selling delicious roti pratas and Indian milk teas where we ended up chatting the night away. My first impression of Lawrence was that of a boy who is going to get far. He may have been struggling to survive then, but it will not be long before he will become big. Touted as Singapore Female Magazine 50 Most Gorgeous People in 2004 and AsiaOne 2007 Face Of the Year, Lawrence has attracted a lot of advertisers and clients with his good looks. Some of the notable commercial work he has done includes L’Oreal, Milo, Starhub, MTV Asia, Marybrown, Sony, McDonald’s, Singapore Tourism Board, Singapore Changi Airport and KFC; to name a few. He has also hosted numerous product launches such as Olympus Camera, Swatch, Guiness Beer, Lipton Tea, Clarins Men Skincare, Virgin Mobile and more. However, Lawrence is more than just a pretty face. He is soft-spoken and well mannered and yet - when he stands in front of a camera - he automatically transforms himself into another persona. He knows exactly how to place himself in front of an audience and is very charismatic in front of the camera. Seeing his professionalism as an artiste, one can immediately see that he is destined to go far.
BEAUX 71
BEAUX 72
With a strong mind to better himself as a performer, Lawrence also underwent singing and dancing lessons and spends a lot of his free time composing songs and writing lyrics. He is currently hosting a popular fashion and lifestyle television programme for Malaysia’s 8TV called “8 Style. He has also starred in eight different television dramas from Singapore and Malaysia in the past 2 years and has quickly risen to become one of the most well-known faces in these two countries.
With an ambition for bigger things, his next goal is Taiwan and the Mainland Chinese market. Seeing his determination and his raw talents, it will not be surprising to see him reaching his goals faster than we can expect.

LA MER THE CONCENTRATE FOR PROBLEMATIC SKIN
World famous for its incredible healing powers La Mer was developed by aerospace physicist Dr Max Huber to help heal the scars he suffered from a lab accident. Now the brand has grown to be a coveted skincare brand not only for the great restorative properties but the La Mer name has also grown to be a symbol of luxury for our skin. The Concentrate complements the skin’s natural healing process and was designed for fragile, post-trauma skins; the product is equally effective in helping compromised skin in great need of renewal. This ultra-potent formulation improves the tone and texture of our skin by visibly soothing redness and irritation and is perfect for people who are prone to the affects of the dry winter climate.

SERIOUSLY, FASHION? BY PATRYK CHAOU
Fashion nowadays encompasses a wide range of things. From the simple tee shirt to perhaps a quaint little hat that took hours of hand labour to make, to an antique watch from the 1920s, to the now ubiquitous iPhone. Many things in our daily lives can now become fashionable, and even something so unrelated on the surface as food, can quickly turn into the next hot thing. A special plate of sushi by a celebrity chef from Kyoto, to the red Corvette out in the drive way can also be a part of fashion. But clothing together with accessories such as shoes, hats, bags, scarves, jewelry and belts are what most people associate fashion to be. It is one we can all understand and react to easily. It is something fashion brands all over the world flaunt with their huge billboards, magazine ad campaigns, television commercials, and even online pop-ups. Large-scale fashion week that happens twice a year in New York, London, Milan and Paris creates huge hype and pizzazz for not only the fashion world, but also it has already impacted deeply into the entertainment and movie industries. Not only are the models

The world of fashion evokes a wide spectrum of feelings and sentiments. Some look at fashion as conspicuous spending enjoyed by only the elite and cannot be considered anything serious. To some, fashion is an art form and a way of creative output. But for the people who work in the industry, fashion means an opportunity to make money, and lots of it.

strutting down the catwalks the centre of attention for the media but who and who has attended the shows also becomes the talk-of-thetown news. A designer dress that gets snapped up by Nicole Kidman for the Grammy’s red carpet will often turn overnight into the next hottest look for the season. And the designer responsible will see his frocks literally fly off the racks at Neiman Marcus. On the most fundamental level, clothing is one of the most basic necessities in life for at least 99% of people in the world. No one wants to walk out of his or her house naked. Unless you are living in the deep jungle villages of the Amazon rainforest, you need clothes to survive. To those who are in the garment business this means huge business opportunities. For a garment brand to be able to capture even 1% of the total world population will mean big profits. In today’s 7 billion, just 1% of the world population still means 70 million people who will buy from you. The profits can be easily calculated. Fashion and the garment industry are huge global
According to the Financial Report for the first half of 2011, LVMH, one of the largest fashion and luxury product conglomerates in the world which owns brands like Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Loewe, Celine and Givenchy, has already made close to 4,000 million Euros in revenue in the fashion and leather goods sector, perfumes and cosmetics brought in another 1518 million, and watches and jewelry $576. That’s over 6000 million Euros in total. This is serious business and certainly not just about idle ladies who lunch. So next time you pick up a pair of Miu Miu ballet slippers or charge up a limited edition Hermès Birkin bag in crocodile on your platinum AE card, you can be sure you are not participating in an idle activity called shopping, but supporting a multi-billion dollar global industry.

OF LIFE
UA HIN, THAIL AND
BEAUX 194
There are many health spas in the world that are worth visiting and Chiva Som in Thailand is one of them. It’s hard to believe that this resort spa is located just three hours south of Bangkok in the town of Hau Hin -- since it feels like another world altogether. Located along a beachfront, the resort offers 58 luxurious rooms, and 70 treatment rooms! I could list all their spa treatments but then this article would end up looking like a spa menu instead. The name, Chiva Som means “Haven of Life” and I would have to agree that it’s indeed a sanctuary of life. If you need to get away and press that reset button for yourself, this is the place. At Chiva Som may just find your “ah” from yoga, and maybe even your “ah ha” moment that Oprah often hopes we’ll find in our life time. Why? Because Chiva Som is there to help your mind, body and spirit relax. They also offer refreshing ways to look at things drawing from both western and Asian therapeutic methods. The quest for health and wellness is not just through classes, and via the senses with its beautiful setting, but also in the spa food they serve. (Chiva Som’s spa cuisine is so good they even have their own cook book.) Go ahead and book your week long stay. You know you deserve it. Don’t wait to detox your body and your mind. Think about it. Have the courage to let go of whatever pass guilt and anxiety that you are holding on to, and see what takes its place instead. Live in the moment because you are worth it. You may surprise yourself and come back with a whole new you.
