BRG History: The Beaverton Resource Guide (BRG) is a free monthly community paper written, edited and published in Beaverton, by Beaverton residents and for the businesses and people of Beaverton, Oregon, USA. Cedar House Media published the ďŹ rst edition in April of 2011 featuring local businesses, community news, and the Farmers Market. That ďŹ rst issue was 16 pages. Today, the paper is 32 pages and sponsored by a diverse cross section of public and private community organizations.

BRG Goals: Beaverton has so many positive attributes and many go unnoticed. The BRG is our way of giving back to the community by highlighting what makes our city a great place to live, work and shop. With a focus on small, local businesses, we’d like to encourage our neighbors to ďŹ rst patron nearby businesses and give them a chance before looking at stores outside our community. BRG Advertising: With our unique layout, colorful design and exclusive community content, our readers are beyond loyal as reected by our 80%+ readership rate each month since early 2013. Not only do they want to know what’s happening in Beaverton each month, but they also agree with our philosophy staying local. As a business in the Beaverton area, your ad will be seen by those who are most willing to go out of their way to keep their dollars close to home. These shoppers, your potential new customers, also happen to be our best readers! In addition, we don’t print large quantities and mail them out to uninterested parties. Our papers are located in convenient and high trafďŹ c locations ready to be picked up by those who shop local. With low rates, targeted distribution and a willingness to provide more value than what you pay for, you’ll ďŹ nd that we’re just as interested in introducing your business to the community as you are!

Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed in this publication are those of the writers and do not necessarily reect the position of Cedar House Media and/or the Beaverton Resource Guide. 2 – Beaverton Resource Guide | Volume 8–Issue 6 (June 2018)

A father is someone you look up to no matter how tall you grow. One father is more than a hundred schoolmasters. When my father didn’t have my hand, he had my back. My father didn't tell me how to live. He lived and let me watch him do it. To her, the name of father was another name for love. Sometimes the poorest man leaves his children the richest inheritance.

Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a Dad.

Being dyslexic, drawing was an important tool for Robin when she was a child. It helped her to communicate when she couldn’t find the words needed to express herself. Years later, Robin attended San Francisco Art Institute where she entered their painting department. In addition, Robin tried her hand at photography and found another medium to express herself. Robin spent six months in southern Spain photographing the Gitano and it combined her love of learning different cultures with her love of photography. Robin was heavily influenced by Pirkle Jones, known for his collection of photographs of the Black Panthers and Dorthia Lange, for her photographic studies of the depression era for the Farm Security Administration, and for her Dust Bowl photographs. Robin prefers working in black and white when photographing people and their cultures and customs so that the focus is on the people. When painting, she prefers to work in oils and likes the effect of graphite on good quality paper. She obtained an AA degree in Graphic Art from

Portland Community College and a BFA from San Francisco Art Institute in 1991. You can see Robin’s photographic talent on the walls around Bridge Meadow’s as she is quick to click images of people and events that take place so often in this community.

Life is not happening to you, you are creating it! Focus on the life you want, and don’t expect the things you don’t want. This is the Law of Attraction, and envisioning a positive life for yourself is the first step in manifesting the life you wish to lead. In this workshop, we will spend one hour in simple writing exercises to uncover and prioritize our life goals and desires. We will then create a visual roadmap of our dreams using images instead of words. Participants will take home a poster-sized vision board that can be used in a daily practice of training the mind to be more positive and open to believing and receiving our desires.

Farmers Market Vendor Spotlight (cont’d) BFM Vendor Spotlight Story begins on page 26 --> Cheesemaking is the sum of satisfying work, from tending our pastures and growing our hay to caring for our Brown Swiss calves as they mature into cows. It is the miracle of art and science coming full-circle to create the cheese of my great-grandfather. It is a reminder of past traditions and the gratification of handing down the love of hands-on work to my children.

Our History The Grossen family emigrated from the Berner Oberland in Switzerland in the late 1800’s and settled in the Swiss community of Helvetia (Helvetia means Little Switzerland in Latin). They

brought with them their tradition of making the Swiss Alpine Cheese “Bergkäese” from the Brown Swiss cows they milked. From the late 1800s to the early 1900s, a handful of farmers in the Helvetia area, including Grossens, produced cheese and would travel the dirt road with horses to sell in Portland. Our family sold Bergkäese commercially until 1937. Even after one hundred years, we still raise Brown Swiss cows for the purpose of cheese making. Brown Swiss milk contains the ideal balance of protein, lactose, and butterfat, which is essential for our delicious alpine cheeses. Our family is now the 6th generation to farm and raise Brown Swiss cows and carry on the tradition of producing Bergkäese in Helvetia.

About gronCBD Booth Location Varies ENJOYING OUR CHOCOLATE First things first: enjoy the way the chocolate melts on your tongue. Swirling silky chocolate around in your mouth encourages sublingual and buccal absorption of the CBD. The cacao’s natural butter fat, the pure CBD, and the inside of your mouth create a trifecta of deliciousness.

CBD is not psychoactive, meaning it won’t make you high, however, everyone’s metabolism is different, so effects vary from person to person. Start with a low dose and wait up to two hours to figure out how it affects you. Avoid alcohol or controlled substances while enjoying any CBD product. We always suggest starting with the smallest amount of any product and determining the appropriate amount for you. CBD affects some people, and others not at all. The idea is to start with a small amount and wait until you’ve learned what is best for you.

Booth Location Varies Did you know you are visiting or living in Cranberry Country? Well, you are. Oregon is 1 of 5 states that grows cranberries and within Oregon there are only 2 counties that grow cranberries; Clatsop County and Coos County. Cranberry Kitchen is located in Clatsop County at the Northern Oregon Coast. Growing cranberries has been the family business since 1966; the Petersons are 2nd generation cranberry growers. Cranberry Kitchen features the brand Crannies® which are whole premium sweetened dried cranberries. They offer many premium products at affordable price points; Crannies® fruit bags, “Superfruit Duo” fruit bags (Crannies ® paired with dried blueberries), and 7 different Crannies® Trail Mixes. The family will be celebrating their 52nd harvest this year! As cranberry farmers they are excited they can bring you America’s native fruit to the Beaverton Farmer’s Market as most Nationwide Farmer’s Markets do not have the benefit of having a cranberry farmer participate. Let’s celebrate Oregon as Cranberry Country and support Cranberry Kitchen at the market.

to find Blue, his lead raptor who’s still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.

Everyone’s favorite family of superheroes is back in “Incredibles 2” – but this time Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is in the spotlight, leaving Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell) and Dash (voice of Huck Milner) to navigate the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life. It’s a tough transistion for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby JackJack’s emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) must find a way to work together again— which is easier said than done, even when they’re all Incredible.
