The Beaverton Resource Guide (BRG) is a free monthly community paper written, edited and published in Beaverton, by Beaverton residents and for the businesses and people of Beaverton, Oregon, USA. Cedar House Media published the ďŹ rst edition in April of 2011 with the help of the city and the Farmers Market. That ďŹ rst issue was 16 pages. Today, the paper is 32 pages and sponsored by the most important community organizations: City Hall, police, library, historical society, TVF&R, WCVA, THPRD, Washington Square and Cedar Hills Crossing to name a few.
8IBUhT UIF GPDVT Beaverton has so many positive attributes and many go unnoticed. The BRG is our way of giving back to the community by highlighting what makes our city a great place to live, work and shop. With a focus on small, local businesses, we’d like to encourage our neighbors to ďŹ rst visit nearby businesses and give them a chance before moving on.

he Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District continues to fulÂżll the promise it made in a bond measure approved by voters in 2008. Eleven projects were completed in 2012, most notably the expansions/ renovations of the Conestoga Recreation & Aquatic Center and Elsie Stuhr Center and the redevelopment of Camille Park. THPRD has now Âżnished 48 projects since bond implementation began in 2009. “We accomplished a tremendous amount in 2012,â€? said THPRD General Manager Doug Menke. “It’s a tribute to solid planning, execution, Âżscal management and hard work. “But we still have a long way to go. It will be 2017 or 2018 before we Âżnish all the projects in our
bond program. This is deÂżnitely a marathon.â€? The $100 million bond measure is designated to preserve natural areas, develop new trails and trail connections, add athletic Âżelds, and upgrade or expand parks and recreational facilities across the district. Once the measure passed, district managers began the process of planning and implementing 129 projects over a multiyear period. THPRD recently completed a major bond-funded makeover of Evelyn M. SchifĂ€er Memorial Park in central Beaverton. The 10-acre site, reopened to the public in January, features 252 feet of boardwalk, play equipment with natural surfaces and textures, two picnic shelters, community gardens, athletic areas, a basketball court, pathways, and a skate “spot.â€? The latter is the Âżrst skating facility for the district outside of its main complex at 158th and Walker Road. Another plus for park visitors is a two-acre wetland area with restored habitat and overlooks for better views.
Redevelopment of A.M. Kennedy Park, at 102nd and Kennedy between Canyon Road and BeavertonHillsdale Highway, has already begun and will continue throughout the winter, spring and summer. &RQWUDFWRUV SRXU FRQFUHWH IRU QHZ ZRPHQÂśV ORFNHU URRP ZDOOV DW Construction &RQHVWRJD SDUW RI D PDMRU UHQRYDWLRQ DQG H[SDQVLRQ RI WKH FHQWHU on additional FRPSOHWHG LQ 7KH SURMHFW ZDV IXQGHG E\ 7+35'ÂśV YRWHU projects will DSSURYHG ERQG PHDVXUH begin this spring. sport played on the ice is heating up in popularity in Beaverton. The Evergreen Curling Club hosted a grand opening in January for its new location at 10950 S.W. Fifth St., Suite 155. According to the club’s board members, LWÂśV WKH ÂżUVW DOO FXUOLQJ IDFLOLW\ LQ 2UHJRQ and the second on the west coast. The Evergreen Curling Club formed in 2002 and previously practiced twice a week at the Lloyd Center ice rink in Port land. Plenty of questions surround the sport of curling. What is it? How does it work? And how do you turn a broom, a stone and an ice rink into a fun and competitive game? The sport’s nickname, “The Roaring Game,â€? originates from the rumbling sound made by the granite stone as it travels across the ice. “Some crazy guys in Scotland 500 years ago, in the wintertime they couldn’t play
golf anymore, so they decided to see who could throw the stone out there on the lochs, explained Bruce Irvin, president of the Evergreen Club. Instructors at the Beaverton club said they can show you how to play in two hours. By the end of the session, begin ners might just be ready to join a league. There are curling leagues, activities for children and opportunities for people in wheelchairs to take part in the sport. The club has more than 100 members, and aims to promote camaraderie, sports manship and team competition in the community. rue health is more than just feeling good. With the Five Essentials, we have created a simple system of living that will help you live a natural, healthy life, free of medication and expensive medical treatments. While each of the 5 Essentials listed below may be familiar, there are many things that you may not know. Implementing these essentials can transform your health. Essential 1: Maximized Mind A Maximized Mind encompasses areas such as time and stress management, improving your relationships with others, and making sure that you get adequate amounts of sleep.
Essential 2: Maximized Nerve Supply Nerve supply is the life supply to all cells, organs, and systems in the body and so is responsible for all function and healing. Improper spinal alignment is common and occurs because of physical, emotional, and chemical stresses.
Essential 3: Maximized Quality Nutrition What you put into your body affects how you feel each and every day. Improper nutrition can create a lot of symptoms such as depression, brain fog, stress and fatigue.
Essential 4: Maximized Oxygen and Lean Muscle Exercise allows your body to take in higher levels of oxygen and creates lean muscle. Studies have shown that exercise consistently can exceed the beneďŹ ts of antidepressants.
Essential 5: Minimized Toxins Toxins and chemicals surround us in our everyday lives and affect our bodies negatively. They are included in items such as medications, reďŹ ned foods, household cleaners and items we cook with!

Malihe at Ziba Salon
"Our family discovered Mali at Ziba Salon in the Progress Ridge a few months ago and now we'll go nowhere else. My hair is easy but my wife's hair is much more complicated. Not a problem for Mali. The true test was how she handled our kids. We brought our 1 year old there for her ďŹ rst haircut and there was not one fuss. Then for our 3 year old, Mali made her smile and laugh making our trip to the salon a positive thing to look forward to for the whole family!" - Mike W., 46 (Sexton Mountain)
Testimonial for Xtend barre I have been going to the barre consistently since March and have developed strength and toning, and gone down two dress sizes. Furthermore, I have autoimmune arthritis, and both my PCP and Rheumatologist have encouraged my barre workouts because it is not only a workout that can be modiďŹ ed for any phyiscal ailment, but it has strengthened the tendons and muscles that my arthritis weakens. I have seen a signiďŹ cant change in exibility and stability from regular attendance. I'd like to thank Sara Peelle, Emily Harrington, and Whiteny Mallard for bringing long-overdue Xtend Barre to Beaverton. I don't know what I'd do without it!

Ingredients t 2 (6oz) jars Marinated Artichoke Hearts, rinsed and coarsely chopped. t 1/2 cup chopped, cooked spinach t 1 cup grated Monterey Jack cheese t 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese t 1 can (7 oz) Herdez Salsa Ranchera t 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened t 1/4 cup diced red onion
Directions Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees Once cream cheese is soft, mix with 3/4 cup Monterey Jack cheese, Parmesan cheese, spinach, artichokes, 3.5 oz of the salsa ranchera and onion. Pour into oven safe bowl and smooth the top. Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup of the jack cheese and carefully pour the remaining salsa along the edge of the bowl (as if you were making a salsa moat) Bake in oven for approx. 17-20 min or until cheese is bubbly. Serve with pita chips or chunks of sourdough bread.
