Pink Lady: In the Media

Swide online magazine touch on aspects of the trend through their Spring Summer trend review article “Calling all housewives.” It mainly speaks about the 1950’s reference, describing how many of the season’s collections “brings back memories of simpler times, where women graced the pavement in proper attire, exuding sensuality and femininity through their aura, and not through their fashion statements.” It also gives details on colour trend describing it as a “tame one.” Key words and phrases in the article: Cinched waists and flowing skirts Innocent Pastels, Ice cream colours Trendland.com described Preen’s Spring Summer collection in a similar way claiming that the collection reminded them of “a beautiful 1950′s housewife baking cupcakes in her all pastel colour-coordinated island kitchen.” Key description words in the review: Feminine Power Constructed Silhouette Retro

Elle collections SS12 cover shows the inpact of pastel colours for the season.

Plastik Magazine featured this photoshoot called “Spring Ladies Club.” With the pink vintage car and group of gorgeous young models styled in pastel dresses and 1950s hair it has a definite Pink Ladies feel.

Look magazine picked up the Pink lady trend directly in their online article “Prada SS12 – It’s Grease Lightning!.” The piece describes Miuccia Prada’s collection as a “fashion fest of feminine, sexy pieces contrasted with ‘Grease’-inspired, T-Bird-worthy touches.” Key description words in the article: ‘Donna e Motori’ (women and cars) Chic ‘50s Pastel VMAN magazine decades edition included an editorial called “Greasers and Squares” in their 1950’s section. It mainly focuses on the male side of the grease fashions sub-categorising them into “Rock ability bad boys and swing dancing dweebs” describing how they were all joined by “Rock and Roll.” Key words and phrases: American youth Switchblade smokers

Pink Lady: On the Streets

This Spring Summer 2012 trend was heavily influence by street style. With vintage and retro styles being popular for the past few years this 2012 saw the turn of the 50’s. The catwalk trends then filtered back down to the streets bringing a mass of pastels and femininity. The 1950’s inspired silhouettes were also very popular, bringing the contrast of super tight trousers and flared skirts.

The emphasised high waist had crept into many collections of the previous few seasons, where a more powerful 1980’s look was shown. Spring, summer 2012 certainly saw the high waist take over but softening the look creating the more feminine waist of the 1950’s.
