Shakespeare’s Globe Book Award Entries invited from publishers by 7 February 2012, shortlist announced in April and winner in July 13 December 2011 Publishers are invited to submit entries by 7 February 2012 for a new award being launched by Shakespeare’s Globe. The Shakespeare’s Globe Book Award will be announced in July next year for a first monograph, published in 2010 or 2011, which has made an important contribution to the understanding of Shakespeare, his theatre, or his contemporaries. The winning author will receive a £3,000 cash prize, a workshop on presentation skills at Shakespeare’s Globe and will be invited to give public lectures at the Globe, the 2012 Cheltenham Literary Festival and the Shakespeare Institute. Travel and accommodation costs will be covered.
Patrick Spottiswoode, Director, Globe Education commented, "Shakespeare's Globe has always been a meeting place for scholars, theatre practitioners and the general public. With its MA and PhD programmes and annual academic conferences, Globe Education has sought to nurture new scholarship. This award celebrates the first books written by new scholars and will promote their scholarship to a wider public."
The panel of judges chaired by Dr Farah Karim-Cooper, Head of Courses and Research at Shakespeare’s Globe, includes eminent Professors; Laurie Maguire (University of Oxford) , Ann Thompson (King’s College London), Michael Dobson (Director of the Shakespeare Institute, University of Birmingham), and Graham Holderness (University of Hertfordshire). Entries must be submitted by publishers to be received online by midnight on 7 February 2012 (GMT). Completed entry forms should be accompanied by a short video statement of less than five minutes from the author outlining what they feel their work contributes to our understanding of Shakespeare, or his theatre, or his contemporaries. A single copy of the book must be delivered to Globe Education by 17 February 2012.
The shortlist will be announced in April and the winner notified in July.
