Theatre Department Internship Shakespeare’s Globe is a world renowned theatre and educational charity dedicated to the exploration of Shakespeare’s work in performance and the broader context of his writing and life. Under the Artistic Directorship of Dominic Dromgoole, the theatre has also continued to reinforce its commitment to new writing and is dedicated to the support and discovery of new work. The theatre department at Shakespeare’s Globe is responsible for the production of the theatre season and other events which take place in the theatre such as the winter concerts which were held in January 2011 featuring the Gabrieli Consort. The theatre intern plays an essential role supporting this extremely busy production team. During the 2011 season we produce six shows for the Globe stage and two small scale touring productions; we manage all aspects of the creative, technical and operational processof putting a show into the theatre and we are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking and passionate individual who is considering a career in arts management and/or theatre production. We have already started to plan our ambitious programme for 2012 which will see us host an international Shakespeare Festival. We plan to stage all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays, each performed in a different language, by a different company, over a five week period. The festival will run in the spring of 2012 as part of the Cultural Olympiad. The applicant should be fluent in spoken and written English, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to commit to 5 days a week for a minimum of three months. The position is unpaid. The intern will be involved in a broad range of tasks and will be expected to cover a wide range of duties. We need support with season preparations, specific projects such as the 2012 Shakespeare Festival, busy seasonal periods such as the beginning of rehearsal, filming periods and technical rehearsal weeks. During the three month period the intern will gain unique insight into the workings of a busy London theatre and become part of the inner workings of one of the most exciting, popular and individual venues in the country.
