Globe Education All placements are unpaid posts, the Globe can not offer travel expenses or accommodation, and if you wish to take up an internship offer you will be responsible for these areas yourself. Non EU citizens will also need to obtain the correct visa from their local British Embassy or consulate.
We are looking for an intern to support our Globe Education Projects Teams on a part-time basis (ideally three days per week - up to 21 hours per week). The internship period is from Monday 21st February 2011 to Thursday 17th March 2011. Reporting to:

Role: Working within the Southwark Community Projects team, the intern will be involved with the administration of projects and events in the local borough of Southwark, building a thorough understanding of the work and the role of the department as a whole. The intern would have particular responsibilities connected with the ‘Our Theatre’ project detailed below. There will be opportunities to observe Southwark community projects in schools and at the Globe. The intern would be involved with supporting the Southwark Community Projects team to ensure the smooth running of all projects, and would be expected to support other members of the Education Department as necessary. Our Theatre: Globe Education runs an extensive Community Projects programme for people who work, live and learn in the London borough of Southwark, the home of Shakespeare’s Globe. Our Theatre is an annual event; every November 16 Southwark schools begin a twelve-week programme of activities that culminates in a full-scale ensemble production on the Globe Stage. Groups of up to 35 students ranging from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 4 devise and rehearse a scene from a Shakespeare play (King Lear). Schools and scenes come together on the 19th March 2009 to share their creativity and achievements, with an audience of over 1,400 people.
Our Theatre demands a great deal of energy and commitment from everyone involved. Collaboration is fundamental to the project’s success. Globe Education Practitioners work in partnership with project teachers to share approaches to teaching and learning, and to develop their own creative practice. Students from Rutgers, State University of New Jersey, support practical sessions to explore the role of the Globe Education Practitioner. Each week, students in sixteen Southwark schools collaborate with their teacher and a Globe Education Practitioner to develop an ensemble scene for performance. Responsibilities: To assist with the administration of the rehearsal process To update the Our Theatre VIP guest list To assist with the Our Theatre ticketing To assist with the co-ordination the Our Theatre programme To assist with the co-ordination of props for the production To assist with the co-ordination and production of the Our Theatre event Personal Profile: A passion for community arts projects The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people Experience of working with schools and the general public Excellent time management and organisational skills Good accuracy and attention to detail Happy to work in an administrative role Discretion and tact The ability to work as part of a team The ability to respond rapidly and effectively to changing situations Previous administrative experience Good knowledge of Shakespeare and theatre in general A good working knowledge of Windows-based software (including Excel) This internship would suit a graduate/undergraduate who hopes to pursue a career in Arts Education, Arts Administration or Event Management.
