OUR FACILITIES Luton Road The facilities for motor vehicle and engineering at our Luton Road campus are a fantastic training ground for aspiring mechanics and engineers, with wellequipped workshops and a hands-on environment.

Munch & Mocha Our refectory and cafe is the ideal place to debate your last class over a coffee or savour a delicious lunch with friends.

Houghton Learning Hub A specialist provision for young people with SEND/ SEMH needs.

Serenity Hair & Beauty Salon

Leighton Buzzard

Based at our main Kingsway campus, is a beautiful, relaxing space for hair and beauty training and treatments. Open to clients, Serenity gives students the chance to learn their trade in a real working salon.

Leighton Buzzard is a state of the art, modern Engineering and Technology centre designed to focus on meeting the needs of the local employers and creating a pipeline of skilled engineers able to support the sector skills growth.

Serenity offers services and treatments to cater for all your hair, beauty and barbering needs. The salon is open to the public during term-time Monday to Friday, with evening appointments available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please ring 01582 349689 or call into Serenity reception to make your appointment.


There is a dedicated Student Space on the bottom floor of A-block and it’s a great way to meet students with similar interests. The College Ambassador team are also based here, and are always looking for help with running Support and Interest groups. For example, The LGBTQIA+ group meet regularly and offer students a chance to share experiences and offer peer support; while the Black culture club looks at celebrating and supporting black culture and history.

Incuba Our City and Guilds approved training centre will provide Construction skills, Electrical Installation and plumbing courses, allowing our learners to gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the industry.

The Store

Learning Resource Centre Our LRC is the place for you to spend time studying outside of classes, with spaces for both individual and group study, and over 30,000 resources. You can also access computers including PCs, Macs and Netbooks, or make use of our free WiFi.

The Store is our dedicated Digital Media department and includes Graphic Design suites, Photography studios, recording studio and MAC suites. The building has an open plan design to mirror the industry.

Our locations in Central Beds & Luton are easily accessible by bus, foot, bike, car and train.

GETTING TO OUR CAMPUS TRAVEL BURSARY Full-time students aged 16-18 and living more than three miles from College may be entitled to subsidised travel from their local authority. If your local authority is unable to help, and you have a household income less than £37,500 the College has a Travel Bursary worth up to £600 which you may qualify for.* Aged 19 or over with a household income of £42,500 or less? If you’re not eligible for other transport support and have applied for an eligible study programme, you will also qualify for the Travel Bursary.

If you are travelling by bus, the bus companies are Arriva and Centre Bus. Please visit their websites for operating routes.

There is student car parking available at Kingsway, Luton Road, Incuba and Leighton Buzzard sites. Please note that spaces are limited.

Bike We have secure bike racks at our Kingsway, Luton Road and Incuba sites. When you arrive at college, you will need to ask a member of the campus security team to unlock the bike shed for you.

Train

Please check the Arriva and Centre Bus website for operating routes. The closest station for our Leighton Buzzard campus is the Leighton Buzzard station. This is a 30 minute walk from the campus.

The closest train station to Kingsway, Luton Road, Incuba, The Store and Houghton Learning Hub is Luton. You will need to get a bus from Luton’s Bus station to your campus.

If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification (equivalent to three A-Levels), your course could still be FREE* if you’re aged 19-23 and studying your first full-time Level 3 qualification.

Wellbeing

A great way to meet students with similar interests is through the Support and Interest groups. We have a variety of student led groups from The Q Agenda (LGBTQIA+) and Transform (Trans support). These groups offer students a chance to share experiences while the Black Culture Club looks at celebrating and supporting culture and history across our campuses and the Disability Awareness Group ENCOMPASS – works to champion students of all abilities.

If you are looking for information on healthy eating, budgeting, exercise, sexual health, smoking, drugs or wider health issues, the Student Services Hub is the place for you. Specially trained staff can help answer questions and give you information and advice. Our College works with local professional organisations to provide you with the best services in the area.

STUDENT LIFE Themed activities Throughout the College calendar we run a number of themed activities to help share key information that affects students’ lives.

Sports & activities You will have a chance to try your hand at sports and activities during your breaks and down time. All of these sports and activities are student led, including badminton, football and boxing.

Talks We provide the opportunity for students to listen and talk to speakers in a range of areas. Talks take place throughout the year.

Student SupporT Student Voice Network and the Student Council Across all our campuses we hold Student Voice Network meetings. These termly meetings discuss relevant college topics and there is an opportunity for Student Ambassadors to feedback on more general issues/ideas at every session. This means any changes requested by students can be discussed and resolutions put in place. You will also have opportunities to represent the student body at open days and committee meetings.

Broaden your College experience Enhancement is a key part of your study programme, giving you the opportunity to broaden your College experience. Taking part in trips and visits, as well as having guest lecturers and speakers, all give you the chance to meet new people; it may make a difference between getting a job or being accepted into university.

As a full-time student you are entitled to at least three individual tutorials per year, plus regular group tutorials. Within the first six weeks of your course your Tutor will meet with you for your first one-to-one tutorial to make sure you are settling in and are on the right course.

This study programme is ideal if you are a student whose first language is not English and you wish to develop your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills for further study and employment. This is available as a full-time course for 16-18 year olds. If you are 19+, you can take this course part-time.

community learning Are you looking to gain new skills and qualifications, but need flexible and easily accessible courses? Our Community Learning courses are offered in a variety of subjects including Childcare, Health & Social Care and Education and are available at flexible times that can fit around school hours.

If you are looking to get back into work, improve your English Language skills or are thinking about a career change, there are courses available at Dallow Road Community Centre.

English & Maths Free functional skills courses in English & Maths The Functional Skills English & Maths courses are designed to develop your knowledge up to Level 2, so you can confidently apply your learning while in education or in work. These courses will help you to develop the essential skills and confidence to further your education and career prospects. We also offer English and Maths GCSEs – it’s never too late to take these core qualifications, which can open doors to a whole range of opportunities.

THE PRINCES TRUST This 12 week, full-time, personal development programme is aimed at young people aged 16-25 years old. It improves your chances of moving into a job, education or training. Practical projects and team-working exercises will all give you a real sense of achievement and the skills you need to move forwards in the future.

How does it work? The team are encouraged to work autonomously to aid development and undertake a number of challenges over the 12 weeks, including: • Team building • Social action project • Work experience • Supporting others in the community • Final presentation 15

An apprenticeship is a programme of work-based learning. To be enrolled as an apprentice, an organisation must have offered you a contract of employment and agreed to pay your wage and support you throughout your training. Your job role must include a range of work relevant to the apprenticeship qualification you wish to undertake.

What is an Apprenticeship?

How long does it take? Apprenticeships take between one and four years to complete depending on the type and level undertaken.

How will I spend my time? The part-time study element of an apprenticeship fits around the job commitment, and will be agreed with the employer. You might attend one day per week (day release), or in blocks of a week or more (block release), or 100% work-based delivery.

Our Access to Higher Education Diplomas build the skills, knowledge and confidence you need to progress on to university level in the subject area you’re interested in. ESOL English for Speakers of Other Languages Our ESOL Skills for Life qualifications assist the learner in becoming independent of others (such as interpreters or translators; be they professionals, family or friends) when interacting with native English-speakers, both in a work environment and elsewhere. By improving their communication and fluency in English, learners will significantly improve their employability skills allowing them to access service providers and have the linguistic confidence to travel, work and socialise beyond their local community.

Our Pathway’s floor, located at our Kingsway campus, provides a bright and welcoming environment. Alongside good-sized classrooms there is an independent living kitchen, Bistro, coffee shop and stationery shop, we have a new training kitchen to support you with your life skills and a sensory room. We also have our own outdoor learning area in the garden and a hobbit house where you can study. Performing Arts THE PAD The Performing Arts Depot, in affiliation with Central Bedfordshire College, offers full time performing arts training, at the purpose built PAD Studios, just a short walk away from the Dunstable Campus.

The Performing Arts industry is both vibrant & creative, as well as being highly demanding & competitive; students training at The PAD will be equipped with the skills to navigate the demands of the industry auditions and prepare for further training at the top performing arts colleges, universities and conservatoires in the country. INDUSTRY OPPORTUNITIES The faculty at The PAD have a wealth of experience working professionally in the performing arts industry and have industry links. Tutors are working professionals who are actively working on West End Shows, touring, filming for both TV & film and more! Frequent workshops from some of the top performers in the industry as well as creative companies, take place each term ensuring students get direct training from working professionals outside of the qualification syllabus. This expands knowledge, skill set and exposes students to the breadth of the industry. Students take part in at least two productions per year, as well as attending the Move It convention weekend in London. Move It, in particular, gives students the chance to see first hand the performers training at the next stage of their career and allows students to begin to plan their future aspirations. In addition, performing live at Move It and throughout the academic year, provides students with first hand, vital experience of performing to live audiences.

DISTANCE AND ONLINE COURSES Our online and distance learning courses give students the opportunity to study a range of different topics from anywhere. Distance Learning is similar to a traditional college course, you’ll have a class, a tutor, and assignments, but instead of coming to campus, your classes will be delivered in a blended format, with some online learning and some in-person. These courses might also require a work placement. Online Learning as the name suggests is also delivered online however the big difference is that you’re in charge of your own learning.
