Duration and Entry Requirements: Duration: 1 year
• 3 GCSEs grades 9–3 including English, maths and science.
What will I study?
This study programme will cover a range of units required for a broad understanding of chemistry, physics and biology, with units including; Chemistry of Our Earth, The Living Body, Science in Medicine, Environmental Science, Energy and the Universe, Electronics in Action and Biology and the Environment. You will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence, assignments and practical and group work. You will also be required to study English and maths and participate in extracurricular activities in College.
What qualifications will I gain?
• Applied Science Gateway Level 2 Diploma • English and maths qualifications if required.
What could I do next?
You will be able to progress on to one of our Applied Science Level 3 study programmes.

Analytical Forensics & Biomedical Science (Level 3)

Duration and Entry Requirements: Duration: 2 years
• 4 GCSEs grades 9–4 including science, maths and ideally English OR • Applied Science at Level 2.
What will I study?
This study programme will give you the opportunity to investigate a simulated crime, collecting and analysing evidence in the manner of a scene of crime officer and forensic scientist. In the first year you will study for a Foundation Diploma. You will complete a set of mandatory units such as Principles of Science, Practical Scientific Techniques, Science Investigation Skills, Laboratory Techniques and other units. These units include the grounding needed in science to progress to the second year. In your second year you will specialise in units units such as Analytical Forensics and core units in Chemistry, Biology and Physics, studying a range of specialist modules.
What qualifications will I gain?
• Applied Science BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma • English and maths qualifications if required.
