Entry Requirements Level 2 – 3 GCSEs grade 9-3 including English and maths – Purchase of PPE

Level 3 – 4 GCSEs grade 9-4 ideally including English, maths and science. – Or successful completion of Level 2 Engineering Diploma – Purchase of PPE


Course Details Level 2 • 1 year study programme covering basic techniques used in the sector • Including Engineering maths and science, materials, electronic circuit building and mechanical practical Level 3 First Year • 9 units of study covering areas of General Engineering – including Health and Safety, Maths, Electronic Principles, Mechanical Principles, Engineering Drawing, Pneumatics and Hydraulics and Electronics • On successful completion you will achieve a 90 Credit Diploma


Level 3 Second Year

• Progression to the second year is dependent on successful completion of year 1 • You will specialise in Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering • Electrical/Electronic includes Robotics, Automation, Project, Further Maths, Further Principles, Microcontrollers, Fault Finding, Design • Mechanical includes Fluids, CAD, Further Principles, Further Maths, Project, Design, Materials, Measurement and Inspection • On successful completion you will be awarded with a 180 Credit Extended Diploma. This will enable progression to work in the industry, a HNC at college or study at University


Additional Support Financial You may be eligible to claim a bursary which will help with travel costs and other expenses. Details can be found on the College website Learning Please advise your Personal Achievement Tutor of any additional learning or emotional support you may need


Course PPE • All learners will wear the following clothing on each day of their workshop sessions • Smock or overalls • Steel toe capped shoes/boots

You will need a ring binder or lever arch file You will need 9 file dividers, one for each unit Scientific calculator Pens, pencils, ruler, USB Note paper Graph paper


Course Outline • Usually 4 days a week College attendance • If you have not achieved level 4 English and Maths GCSE you will be required to attend lessons • Weekly group Tutorial for personal development. A minimum of 3 individual tutorials with your Personal Achievement Tutor • Work experience • 60 hours enhancement study


Assessment Methods Continual Assessment Methods – Practical observations – Oral questions – Written assignments – On-line assessments – Self assessment – Peer assessment


Work Experience Work experience is encouraged in a vocational programme of study. It will:

– Improve confidence – Improve practical skills from classroom to workplace & vice versa. – Develop a range of transferable employability skillscommunication, team work, work ethics – Will enhance your CV – Prepare you for the world of work – Impress a possible future employer – Two options of Work experience/placements potentially up to 315 hours.
