Land-based Apprenticeships Land-based apprenticeships are extremely popular for individuals who enjoy practical work outside and have a keen interest in working with land, plants and/or livestock. There are four main land based apprenticeships available; Agriculture (farming and livestock), Horticulture (landscaping and gardening), Arboriculture (trees and timber) and Environmental. These types of Apprenticeships allow you to develop the skills and knowledge required by employers in land-based industries, providing you with the chance to gain on-the-job experience whilst also studying for a qualification.

Landscape Operative Apprentice, Kings Landscapes, Aspley Guise, Bedfordshire, £324 per week As an apprentice for Kings Landscapes, you will be trained to carry out quality landscape construction and maintenance work on site as part of a team. You will be expected to contribute towards the goals of the team in an efficient, cooperative and constructive manner. Due to the need to travel to various sites, carrying equipment with you, a full UK driving licence and your own method of suitable transport is required for this role. Engineering Apprenticeships Apprentices in Engineering are in high demand. Engineers design, manufacture and maintain almost everything that people and industries use making engineering a huge growth area. It is also a popular option due to the excellent progression routes and the variety of areas you can specialise in. Some of the qualities that you will need to be a successful Engineering Apprentice are; good numeracy and problem solving skills, an interest in Science – particularly Physics, practical skills and a general enjoyment for hands-on work. You may also have transferrable skills from other areas such as motor mechanics, construction, electrical installation or design technology. Warehousing and Logistics Apprenticeships A Warehousing Apprenticeship predominantly covers the movement and storage of goods and is an essential part of logistic operations. This is a work based apprenticeship where all of your assessments will be done in your place of work. You could work for a large retailer, manufacturer or distribution company. Some of your day to day tasks may include keeping stock records, taking and checking delivery of goods in and storing them, moving stock by hand or with machines.

Each year vacancies under the Trainee Technician scheme are available for people wishing to pursue a career in horticulture by gaining practical experience. Based within the 40-acre Botanic Garden, the trainees are able to learn and perform the wide range of horticultural skills that are required to maintain a diverse collection of over 8,000 plants, which is of international importance. The scheme is demanding and is intended for those wishing to gain experience in practical horticulture, collection management

and plantsmanship. Trainees are part of the staff of the Botanic Garden and receive a salary. News Traineeship Closing date for applications: 26 February 2017 Scheme start date: 2 October 2017 This is a nine-month programme starting on Monday 2nd October 2017 and we are looking for 12 talented recruits, seven of whom will work in one of our English Regional newsrooms in ITV Anglia (Norwich); ITV Central (Birmingham); ITV Granada (Media City, Salford); ITV Meridian (Whiteley, near Southampton); ITV Tyne Tees & Border (Gateshead); ITV West Country (Bristol); or ITV Yorkshire (Leeds). Two trainees will be based in our national newsrooms one for ITV Cymru Wales in Cardiff and the other for UTV in Belfast. Two trainees will be working in our Network newsroom based in London, and in addition, we have an opportunity for one trainee at ITV Channel (St Helier). You'll have a genuine interest in business and a passion to develop a career in business within the creative industry as well as enthusiasm for working at the BBC. In terms of academic qualifications, you're likely to have five GCSEs Grade A* - C and studied A Levels or a vocational qualification such as a BTEC. Don't worry if you don't have these, we are looking for creative, passionate people with great ideas, not necessarily people with academic qualifications. To supervise prisoners in the Visits Hall tea bar. This role supports prisoners in their rehabilitation and training as Barista’s and families visiting the prison. We’re extending the public interest in The Collection and Swiss Garden to The House and Parkland. ZSL Animal Careers Conference – 29 August 2017 This is a one-day conference hosted at ZSL London Zoo and aimed at people aged 16+ who are interested in pursuing an animal based career. The conference will begin with a talk from a keynote speaker to tell you the story of an exciting career. There will then be four sessions throughout the day where ZSL speakers from different departments will give you short insights into their careers and how they got there. There will also be four short, practical activities to consolidate your knowledge of each theme of work. Lunch and refreshments will be provided and you will be able to access the zoo at lunch time and after the conference has ended. This conference will be most useful to students aged 16+ who know they would like to work with animals, but are not sure what direction to go in. There are many diverse and varied animal careers and this event will aim to give you an overview of some of them. There is a charge for attending this event, however ZSL are offering an early-bird rate for tickets purchased before 31st March 2017. There are also a small number of fully-funded places available.
