Overview of the role As a Hairdresser you will be based in Yarl’s Wood and you will be trusted to create a relaxing and calm atmosphere for the residents to escape to. You will be providing a hairdressing and barbering service to the residents as well as beauty therapy sessions. One of your key requirements will be to keep up to date records of all equipment in the hairdressing locations and report any damages or concerns to the safety and security centre. About You As the successful candidate you must have proven and demonstrable experience of working as a hairdresser or beauty therapist and qualified at a minimum of NVQ Level 3 or equivalent. Volunteers needed to support our work at HMP Bedford Ormiston Families, Unite Programme The Unite Programme works with prisoners and their families to minimise the impact of imprisonment on their children. Our services support family relationships to continue developing throughout the sentence, which plays a critical role in helping to reduce reoffending rates. We are seeking volunteers for 2 roles. 1. To supervise prisoners in the Visits Hall tea bar. This role supports prisoners in their rehabilitation and training as Barista’s and families visiting the prison. You will open the tea bar, oversee the selling of hot food and drink and operate the till. We need volunteer for Weekends 13.00 to 16.15 and Wednesdays and Thursdays 13.00- 15.30. 2. To assist Play Staff in the Visits Hall play area. This role involves working directly with children aged 1-13 years at Weekends from 13.15 to 16.15. You need an interest in working with children and understanding of children’s needs. For both of these roles Ormiston will offer the necessary training and support. You will need to undergo prison vetting and Ormiston will arrange for a DBS. We like all volunteers to commit to a minimum of 2 sessions per month.
