Course fees and payment options How do I find out what the fee for my course is? The fee for your chosen course is listed in the course entries (from page 14) and includes the cost of tuition plus the cost of any exam and registration fees charged by the exam board (if applicable). Are there any other costs I may have to pay? Some courses will require you to pay extra costs for things such as course books, trips and specialist equipment or clothing. To find out if your course has any additional costs, check online at www.bedford.ac.uk/courses using the course code or call 01234 291000. I am unemployed and receiving benefits. Is there any help available? Certain benefits may qualify for a discount to fees. See page 7 to see if it could apply to you.

Find out what you’ll pay for your course and what support is available to help with the cost.

Don’t let money be a worry

I’m an international student – are my course fees different? If you have not been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for more than three years before the start of your course (excluding any time spent in full-time education), different course fees may apply to you – please call to find out more +44 (0)1234 291000.

Low-interest loans – study now, pay later 24+ Advanced Learning Loan If you’re aged 24 or over on the start date of your chosen course, you can apply for a loan to cover the tuition fees for some Level 3 or 4 qualifications. And with nothing to pay back until you’ve completed your course and you’re earning over £21,000 per year, a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan is a fantastic way to make part-time study more affordable.

My employer is funding my course – what do I need to do? You’ll need to provide a signed letter or purchase order from your employer and we will invoice them accordingly. Call our Employer Training Services team on 01234 291747 to find out more. How can I pay for my course? You can pay by cash, cheque, credit or debit card. And for courses over £100 we offer an affordable Direct Debit instalments option (see ‘Pay by instalments’). Low interest loans are also available for courses with the or symbols. To find out more check out this website www.bedford.ac.uk/finance

Look out for the symbol next to the course title to see if your chosen course is eligible for the loan.

Pay by instalments Taking out a loan isn’t the only way to pay for your course – for courses over £100 Bedford College also offers an affordable Direct Debit instalments option to help make part-time study more affordable and spread the cost of tuition fees. Please note: an additional £20 charge applies if you choose to pay by instalments. Visit www.bedford.ac.uk/finance to find out more.

Check out our online fee calculator The easiest way to find out what you’ll pay for your chosen course... We know the different rules on whether a discount may apply to you or your course can be confusing, which is why we’ve launched our online fee calculator to make finding out the cost of your course simple. To use it, just find your chosen course at www.bedford.ac.uk/courses and launch the fee calculator – you’ll work through a short set of questions to find out the price you’ll pay for your chosen course.

Higher education loan Low-interest loans are also available to pay the cost of the tuition fee for higher education courses (e.g. HNC/Ds and Foundation Degrees), with repayments starting after your studies are finished and only when your salary rises above £21,000. Look out for the symbol next to the course title to see if your chosen course is eligible for the loan. Visit www.bedford.ac.uk/loans to find out more.

Stephen Hill

City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Domestic Plumbing and Heating “I studied carpentry at another college but decided to do plumbing as I was spending a lot of time helping my family who are plumbers and I wanted to get the necessary qualifications. Bedford College was closer to home and the specialist plumbing centre was ideal as it is so well kitted out. I started on a night course doing plumbing and heating and have worked my way to an NVQ in Plumbing & Heating. I have made a lot of friends and quite a few contacts through the courses and the tutors have been amazing. Not only have I gained the necessary skills but I have also been able to secure a job in a plumbing firm with the help of one of my tutors.”

Marketing CIM Level 4 Professional Certificate “I was doing the marketing for my company Bodyflight Ltd and having not studied Marketing in any depth before I wanted to find a local course that would teach me more about the subject. Bedford College was very local to my work and I could go straight from work to the evening classes. I enjoyed making new friends on the course, some of whom I am still in touch with.”

Construction BTEC Level 3 Diploma Construction & the Built Environment “I chose this course because I wanted to get into construction, I live in Bedford so the Cauldwell Street campus was really convenient. I was a little nervous as I had not studied for years, but the course lecturers helped me through this. I really enjoyed the course because it was not just about the technical content; it was also about preparing me for a professional position. They even arranged for some local construction industry bosses to come in and prepare me for interviews. And after only one interview I am now a trainee manager at a construction company in Bedford!” Contact us via www.bedford.ac.uk/contact or call 01234 291000

Personal Training CYQ Level 3 Certificate “I took some time out when my children were born, and I wanted to do something fun. I am a qualified nurse but always enjoyed running and generally keeping fit so I enquired about the course and was impressed by the lecturers. It fitted in with my family life and wasn’t too stressful, plus living only 2 miles from the college I was able to cycle there. The course was fun and the lecturers were very supportive, they were always available either by phone or email and there was a big focus on passing – failure was not an option. The positivity rubbed off on all of us and we all worked really hard. Since the course I have been able to leave my nursing career and now work full time as a personal trainer and run successful outdoor fitness classes. The lecturers are so supportive and it was great meeting so many students, many of whom I will always be in contact with.”

Mick Pinney

Teaching in Post-Compulsory Education (Cert Ed/PGCE) “I completed the CertEd as part of my job. Group activities worked well for me as I like being part of a group. They were also great for sharing ideas like ice breakers and quizzes, which I use in my lessons. I love how the tutors let you be creative and choose anything you like and deliver a micro teaching lesson, the feedback was great and tutor feedback was always positive, which made me feel good about myself. Tutors were excellent and always supportive. I have achieved a grade 1 lesson observation and I am currently about to undertake the A1 assessors award. I was asked if I would become the course manager in Brickwork. Wow – what a journey in such a short time. In 2007 I was working on a building site and in 2014 a fully qualified teacher and manager of Brickwork!”
