Course fees and financial help Find out what you’ll pay for your course and what support is available to help with the cost. How do I find out what the fee for my course is? The fee for your chosen course is listed in the course entries (from page 11) and includes the cost of tuition plus the cost of any exam and registration fee charged by the exam board (if applicable).

Are there any other costs I may have to pay? Some courses may require you to pay extra costs for things such as course books, trips, and specialist equipment or clothing. To find out if your course has any additional costs, check online at www.bedford.ac.uk/parttime using the course code or call 01234 291000.

Don’t let money be a worry There are lots of easy to access ways to spread the cost of your course – which means a big investment in your future doesn’t have to mean a big hit on your bank balance. Low-interest loans – study now, pay later 24+ Advanced Learning Loan

Higher education loan

New for 2013, if you’re aged 24 or over on the start date of your chosen course, you can now apply for a loan to cover the tuition fees for some Level 3 or 4 qualifications. And with nothing to pay back until you’ve completed your course and you’re earning over £21,000 per year, a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan is a fantastic new way to make part-time study more affordable.

Low-interest loans are also available to pay the cost of the tuition fee for higher education courses (e.g. HNC/Ds and Foundation Degrees), with repayments starting after your studies are finished and only when your salary rises above £21,000. Look out for the HE symbol next to the course title to see if your chosen course is eligible for the loan.

Look out for the 24+ symbol next to the course title to see if your chosen course is eligible for the loan. Visit www.bedford.ac.uk/loans to find out more about the loans available to you and how to apply.

Pay by instalments Taking out a loan isn’t the only way to pay for your course – for courses over £100 Bedford College also offers an affordable Direct Debit instalments option to help make part-time study more affordable and spread the cost of tuition fees. Please note: an additional £20 charge applies if you choose to pay by instalments. Visit www.bedford.ac.uk/finance to find out more.

Check out our

online fee calculator The easiest way to find out what you’ll pay for your chosen course… We know the different rules on whether a discount may apply to you or your course can be confusing, which is why we’ve launched our online fee calculator to make finding out the cost of your course simple. To use it, just find your chosen course at www.bedford.ac.uk/parttime and launch the fee calculator – you’ll work through a short set of questions to find out the price you’ll pay for your chosen course.

Qualification levels

Qualification types

Qualifications are split by different levels that relate to how advanced the course subject is – to take a course at a particular level, you may need to already have certain qualifications at lower levels…

The course represents quite a career change for me as I’d previously been working on car body repairs as a panel beater for nearly a decade, but after being made redundant I wanted to take the chance to switch paths. Thanks to the course I feel a lot happier in work and life – it’s definitely been the right move for me.

We also offer GCSE English & Maths, see page 29 for more information.

Case study Studying horticulture at Shuttleworth College has been pretty lifechanging for me – I went from gaining a degree in traditional Chinese medicine to working with plants at one of Britain’s largest historical gardens! The skills I’m learning are benefiting my work and I put them into practice every day, both the theory and practical.

Case study Lindsey Francis Teaching in Post-Compulsory Education: CertEd/PGCE

At the start of my course I was pretty nervous about returning to education, but I settled in very quickly and a lot of it had to do with the really nice atmosphere here between tutors and students – in fact I’ve made some really good friends already. The course has given me real confidence about going back to work and juggling the work-life balance. Hear more from Lindsey and other part-time students at www.bedford.ac.uk/parttime
