Chairman’s Report

Chairman’s Report

As I write this report I think what a far better place we are, Covid-wise, than we were a year ago. So much so that we have finalised arrangements for the long-delayed reunion which will now take place on Saturday, 13th May 2023 at the college. Full details can be found elsewhere in the newsletter but I would urge everyone (and the colleagues from your year) to attend, catch up and have a really good day. I hope you find that we have put together a cracking day and I would like to put on record my sincere thanks to the reunion subcommittee members who have all worked hard to put on the day for you all.

I am really pleased to report that we have four new (and younger!) members who have joined the committee and have already brought new thinking to various matters, not least of which is how we represent ourselves on social media. Hopefully this will have a ‘snowball’ effect on attracting new members. They are: Bill Cowper, Nick Badger, Bruce Ashworth and Tim Durrant.

On a sad note we have, reluctantly, had to accept the resignation of our long-standing treasurer Mike Williams (NDA 1965-67) due to health problems. Mike has been a safe pair of hands and has always had the Alumni’s requirements uppermost in his mind. We thank him most sincerely for his long service and I thank Sarah Perrett for taking over.

As always, I would like to thank the members of the committee for their unstinting service to you all.

As we approach Christmastime, may I wish you and your families the very best and a Happy New Year. Here’s hoping that 2023 will turn out to be a more peaceful year than this one and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the reunion in May 2023.

Message from the Editorial Team

As you read on you will find some interesting, inspiring, fascinating and alas some sad stories. So a big thank you to all who contributed to this year’s edition whatever the content. As we have said so many times in the past, we can only print what you send us. We never stop collecting news and stories for publication, as soon as this one is finished our minds turn to the next one. So it doesn’t matter when you think of sending us things; any time of year is a good time! This year’s reunion is a great example and I am looking forward to seeing the photos that will inevitably get taken. A reunion is often a time for reminiscing and telling of old stories so write them down and send them in for others to enjoy. Shuttleworth Students have the ability to turn even the most mundane event into something humorous. So let’s all hear it! Thank you again and enjoy the magazine. The Editor
