If Britain owes over £2,200 billion in National debt and Sally has been on minimum wage for most of her working life with the interest on her debt being equal to her monthly outgoings, then who is more broke, Britain or Sally? This Disgusting Feast of Filth: The Theatre of Sarah Kane Join Professor Graham Saunders for a fascinating lecture exploring the main themes and dramatic features of the work of Sarah Kane and her ongoing influence on many of today’s dramatists. Graham Saunders is the Allardyce Nicoll Professor of Drama in the Department of Theatre and Drama Arts at the University of Birmingham, and author of Love me or Kill me: Sarah Kane and the Theatre of Extremes.

Gilbert Lloyd Lecture: John Duffin RE ARWS - Painter and Printmaker of City Life John Duffin will be talking about his prints and paintings of city life produced over a 30 year career. He will discuss his journey from training as a Naval Architect for the Ministry of Defence to studying in London with the Britart generation at Goldsmiths’ College and onto establishing his own practice as a renowned printmaker and painter. ‘Duffin’s etchings of city life are outstanding and highly evocative.’ – Sir Peter Blake. An Evening with Jasmine Harrison
On a sunny February morning in Antigua, world record breaker Jasmine Harrison from Thirsk took the last few strokes of one the world’s hardest rowing challenges when she crossed the finishing line of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. It had taken her 70 days, 3 hours and 48 minutes to cover the 3000 miles across the unpredictable Atlantic Ocean with only her lucky mascot “Wilson” as company. Aurie Styla: Green Tour One of the UK’s most charismatic comedians, Aurie Styla, is touring nationwide with his fourth solo show, GREEN. The pandemic became difficult for nearly everyone to get through, showing us a different perspective on what life is and means. This tour explores Aurie’s transition into being less Styla and more Green (his real last name). Question is, what in the hell does being Green actually mean? Get your belly laughs finding out.

Senior Music Prize Competitions Hot on the heels of our Junior Music Competition is the Senior Music Competition. Choral Society Concert This year’s Choral Society Concert will feature the ‘Liverpool Oratorio’ by Paul McCartney, which is the former Beatle’s first foray into a major piece of classical music. This choral and orchestral work was created in conjunction with established conductor and composer Carl Davis. Boys from Bedford School will join forces with girls from Bedford Girls’ School, as well as the Eagle Choir, Bedford School’s adult community choir, made up of parents, past parents, staff and friends of the school.

A man stands on stage in a pool of light and attempts the ultimate magic trick: disappearing while remaining in full sight. As he wittily deconstructs the theatrical experience - his part, and ours - inside the theatre and in the real world... are we on our own private stages?
