IN THE COMMUNITY BRAMCOTE TENNIS COURTS REFURBISHED ASPIRING TENNIS PLAYERS in Bramcote can enjoy newly refurbished Tennis Courts at King George IV Park thanks to funding from Fields in Trust. The improvements including new ball stop fencing to replace ageing existing fencing were made thanks to a £2000 grant from Fields in Trust, along with a similar amount of match funding from Broxtowe Borough Council. This is the second tennis site in the Borough to be refurbished in the last two years, with major improvements made to the tennis courts at Queen Elizabeth Park, Stapleford last year thanks to Fields in Trust funding. The courts at Bramcote are free for public use and open year round. They can become busy and at peak times the Council would ask users to limit their court time to an hour to allow others to make use of the facility. Limited on-site parking is also free to park users who can also enjoy woodland and wildflower meadow walks, open grass for informal play and a small junior play area. “We’re delighted to see the improvements being made to this Fields in Trust protected site. 34

Protecting outdoor space, and maintaining it, is vital to encouraging people to get active and to lead healthier lives. IN THE COMMUNITY ROLLS- ROYCE RETIRED EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION The Rolls- Royce Retired Employees Association ‘s April excursion was to Hampton Court they enjoyed some free time wandering round the beautiful gardens exploring the famous maze and viewing the world’s largest vine, afterwards they split into three groups for a two hour guided tour that encompassed Henry V111’s and William11’s apartments along with the Clock Court and the Seymour Gate . For many members this was their first visit to one of London’s famous Historic Palaces. The day was slightly spoilt by the traffic congestion on the M 25 and surrounding roads but the time was well spent with the members partaking in a picture quiz The Walk & Talk Group had a good turn out for their April Walk with 29 members attending, meeting at the Cemetery in Monsom Lane .The day started a little overcast but warmish as they left Repton and headed off towards the remains of the old chain ferry at Twyford. The walkers remarking how good it was to see the sheep with their lambs in the fields a perfect reminder that spring was here as they headed towards St.Savior’s Church next to Foremark Hall, then across the fields and into Milton before heading back to Repton and lunch at The Cherry Tree Restaurant. The “This That and The Other” Group enjoyed a very interesting talk on Clown Make Up by Jean Ellison who made up as she gave the talk. Future trips include Lake Garda and The National Memorial Arboretum Another trip to the Malvern Flower Show on the 8th April still has tickets available at £30-00 pp including entry(See below for contact details) The Association hold a monthly social get together on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at Rolls-Royce Leisure Moor Lane Derby at 1-00 pm .
