Midland Scooter Centre - The Midlands number one scooter shop Midland Scooter Centre, or ‘MSC,’ as they’re known, started trading in 1983 and have been situated at their current site on Pasture Road for over 20 years. They’re a friendly family run business who pride themselves on being ‘The Midlands number one scooter shop’ an accolade that they plan to hold on to. Sales Director, Andrew told us “We’re one of the top ten Piaggio dealers in the country and cater for commuters and classic scooter riders. We also stock Piaggio, Vespa, Gilera, Aprilia and the new Scomadi scooters but we steer clear of some of the cheaper end machines.” And for good reason, “Buy a ‘bargain’£800 new scooter off the internet and you’ll get problems trying to get parts, warranty or have it serviced. They’re often more trouble than they’re worth”. MSC haven’t neglected eco scooters either “We sell Dayun electric scooters, they’re great around town and can be ridden from the age of 14, with no licence, tax or insurance to worry about.” Scooters and small capacity bikes have seen a massive resurgence in recent years, they’re practical and stylish but there are other benefits too. So what else makes a scooter a sensible alternative to a car? According to Andrew “Modern scooters are very cheap to run, easy to ride and depending on age you can ride up to a 125cc on nothing more than a CBT (a one day training course). Also if you passed your car test before February 2001 you can ride a moped without any further training. The latest crop of 300500cc three-wheeled Piaggio MP3’s can also be ridden on a car licence but have all the benefits of ascooter; weather protection, comfort, storage, congestion busting and free parking but they also have the added safety and stability of an extra front wheel so are great in wet weather. Don’t forget that scooters are also great fun to ride and they give youngsters road sense and freedom. Pop down and see us for all your small capacity needs…”

Look After Your Lawn Mow lawns when necessary - whenever the grass is growing - the aim is to maintain a constant height throughout the year. Add the clippings to the compost heap in thin layers (beware: too much grass all at once is likely to be very wet and poorly aerated, resulting in smelly slime rather than compost). Use a half-moon edging iron or spade to create a 7.5cm (3in) ‘gutter’ around the lawn edge. This will prevent grass creeping from the lawn into borders. Sowing new lawns or over-seeding dead patches can be carried out from mid-April to early May. If the soil is very wet or cold germination will be poor, so delay until the weather improves. Prepare the ground for sowing, by cultivating, levelling and lightly firming beforehand. Its advisable not to walk over or mow newly sown grass until it has reached a height of 5-7.5cm (2-3in), and then only give it a light trim at the highest setting. Good idea to apply a high nitrogen spring lawn fertiliser at the beginning of the month to encourage good, strong growth. If moss is a problem look for a a combined fertiliser and mosskiller. April is the best month to apply lawn weedkiller. Always follow instructions on the packaging very carefully as lawn chemicals (including fertilisers, weedkillers and mosskillers) can cause pollution of groundwater if used incorrectly. Lightly rake lawns with a spring-tine rake to remove old plant debris. This can also be done to rake out dead moss a couple of weeks after applying a chemical moss killer. Repair bumps and hollows by peeling back the turf, removing or adding soil, and then replacing the turf.

SPRING GARDENING

1. Keep weeds under control 2. Protect your fruit blossom from late frosts 3. Tie in climbing plants and rambling roses 4. Sow hardy annuals and herb seeds 5. Start to feed citrus plants 6. Increase the water given to houseplants 7. Feed hungry shrubs and roses 8. Sow new lawns or repair bare patches 9. Prune fig trees 10. Divide bamboos and waterlilies

Good Tip: If the weather warms up and hosepipe ban is looking likely, consider keeping your lawn a little longer than usual, and even investing in a mulching mower. Mulching mowers mainly shred the grass clippings very finely and then blow them into the lower layers of the turf, where they act like mulch to help the lawn retain it’s moisture, the clippings are fine, so the end result is not unsightly, especially later on in the season when the lawn gets very dry, so the mulch helps to keep it green rather than brown.

Most people usually require the services of a legal professional at some point in their lives., sale of a house, divorce etc., but how many stop and think about using the services of a professional for drawing up Wills, or preparing a Lasting Power of Attorney or taking advice on matters such as care fees and elderly client issues?. It is reassuring to know that this can be taken care of at a local business in Stapleford. Fiona Frankland Legal Services is in the heart of Stapleford and is a niche legal practice specialising in Wills , Estate Administration, Powers of Attorney , & Trusts Inheritance Tax Planning. Fiona Frankland has over twenty five years’ experience in working in these areas. Fiona is a full member of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners a worldwide professional body for estate law and a member of the Institute of Legal Executive whose members are independently regulated by the Institute’s Professional Standards Committee. She has worked in Stapleford for over nine years and was at Chambers and Hind before opening up her own legal company 1. Wills they offer a face to face service in their office or at your home or at a hospital on request. They also offer a 24 hour emergency service should you need to have a Will urgently. They can also offer affordable advice on Inheritance Tax, Trusts for minor’s and Disabled beneficiaries. Also on offer is free storage of Wills and Deeds in their strong room. making a Will means that you can ensure that your wishes are carried out and you can leave your assets after you die to the person or people you want to most. If you are married and have small children, you may wish to appoint Guardians in the event of you and your partner dying. Equally if you are unmarried and live with your partner it is particularly important, as the law does not recognise partners who live together as having the same rights as a spouse. 2. Probate Service When somebody dies, their estate has to be dealt with. A person’s estate can be made up of money, property and possessions, stocks and shares and possessions. The person may also have debts which need to be settled and the funeral arrangements made. There are two methods of dealing with an estate. 1) If the person has left a will and it is proved to be valid then this is known as Probate and the person named in the Will needs to deal with the estate will be called an Executor and, assuming that the assets of the person who has died exceeds the specified amount then the assets cannot be sold or encashed or distributed until his or her Will has been proved at the probate registry, this is called ‘Obtaining a Grant of Probate’. 2) If there is no Will, then a Grant of Letters of Administration will be granted and the person will be known as an Administrator. Nobody looks forward to having to administer an estate of a loved one or friend. This can be a very stressful and confusing time for the relatives left behind. You can initially call FF Legal Services to get advice on whether you need a probate or what to do next.

Garlic roast lamb with hotpot potatoes Method

Expecting family round for Easter? A leg of lamb stretches to feed a crowd of up to eight, especially when combined with sliced potatoes and carrots in gravy Prep: 25 mins Cook: 2 hrs, 15 mins plus resting Skill level: Easy Serves 8 Ingredients 1.8kg part-boned leg of lamb 5 garlic cloves, sliced a few rosemary sprigs a few thyme sprigs, plus a few extra to serve 50g butter 2 large onions, thinly sliced 400g pack diced mutton or lamb shoulder, finely choppped 2kg large potatoes, such as King Edwards, thinly sliced 300g carrots, sliced at an angle 3 tbsp plain flour 700ml lamb or beef stock, plus 450ml (optional) 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce steamed green beans and wilted spinach with nutmeg (optional), to serve

36

Heat oven to 190C/170C fan/gas 5. 1.Cut small pockets into the skin and flesh of the lamb by piercing it with the point of a sharp knife. Stuff each pocket with a slice of garlic, using 3-4 of the cloves, and a few leaves of rosemary. Stuff some more inside the lamb, with some thyme, where the bone has come from. Put in a roasting tin, season well and cover with foil. 2.Melt half the butter in a large frying pan. Fry the onions, stirring frequently, until softened and golden. Tip into a second large roasting tin. Cook the chopped mutton or lamb in the pan until brown. Add to the onions in the tin, and toss with the potatoes, carrots, remaining garlic and herbs (chopped), 2 tbsp of the flour and some seasoning. 3.Pour the stock into the frying pan, then add the Worcestershire sauce and the remaining butter. When melted and boiling, pour over the potatoes, cover with foil and bake with the lamb for 1 hr. 4. Uncover both the lamb and the hotpot, and cook for 45 mins more until the potatoes are golden and cooked all the way through. Allow the lamb to rest for 15 mins before carving. Leave the potatoes in the oven (covered if starting to brown too much) until ready to serve. 5.Drain the fat from the lamb’s roasting tin, reserving the juices. Put the tin on the heat and stir in the remaining flour. Pour in 450ml boiling water or stock and stir until thickened to a gravy. Cut the hotpot into 8 and lift onto warmed plates. Carve the lamb into thick slices and place on top, then spoon round a little gravy. Serve with the green beans and spinach – add a little grated nutmeg to the spinach, if you like.

Care and Support at Home – Signs of Alzheimer’s I started writing this article last week as a short update on the changes to be introduced as part of the new Care Act (2014) on the 1st of April 2015. However, given 2 major items of news during the past week regarding Alzheimer’s I decided to change the content and concentrate on that. The first bit of news was about the unfortunate death of Sir Terry Pritchett. I remember reading The Colour of Magic for the first time (of many) during the late 80s and then in subsequent years when my daughters were growing up. I always admired his ability to mix fiction with fantasy and humour and felt he fully deserved his knighthood in 2009. Sir Terry was initially misdiagnosed in 2007 with having had a mini stroke which had affected the right side of his brain. During December of the same year he revealed that he had been newly diagnosed with a rare form of early onset Alzheimer’s. Since that time he became a patron of the Alzheimer’s Society and worked hard to give the disease the prominence it deserves. Apart from donating half a million pounds to the Alzheimer’s Research Trust he participated in countless fund raising activities and programmes to highlight the devastating nature of the disease. The second bit of news was based on statistics related to the use of memory clinics. The front page of The Times read; “Dementia Clinics are swamped by worried well” in a reference to the fact that people visiting specialists for tests have quadrupled over the past four years. According to experts, people who are simply absent-minded are attending clinics after forgetting where they have put their keys. As part of the Alzheimer’s workshops I run I normally use the example of misplaced keys to illustrate the difference between typical age-related changes and those that come about due to Alzheimer’s. If you forget where you left your car keys there is nothing to worry about, it happens to most of us and is a typical age related (memory) change. If however, you forget where you parked your car (not where about in a car park but which car park, then there might be reason for concern. With this article I have included a short document entitled “10 Signs of Alzheimer’s” which we also use as background information at our workshops. It is of course not meant to replace a diagnosis or be used as a test. It is simply a way of illustrating some of the differences between age related changes and those which are typical of Alzheimer’s.

IN THE COMMUNITY STUDENTS LEND HELPING HAND TO ‘LOVE WHERE THEY LIVE’ STUDENTS from Central College have been getting a unique insight into the types of litter and recyclable material we all often turn a blind-eye to. As part of their ‘Awareness of the Local Environment’ coursework, they were shown how this can help Broxtowe Borough Council achieve its 50% recycling target.

Litter, recycling, looking after the environment and community involvement all go hand in hand as the students discovered when they met the Council’s Waste and Recycling Awareness Co-ordinator, Jane Hutchinson for a litter pick at Dovecote Lane Recreation Ground, Beeston. Before Jane arrived the students had walked around the park and decided there was not much litter about. After a quick chat with Jane, who described what to look out for, the students were kitted out with tabards, litter pickers and bags. After 40 minutes the students were amazed at the amount they had collected, much of which could have been recycled. When out and about think about your waste; can this be recycled? If so take it home and place into your green-lidded bin. By simply recycling five more items a week, you can help Broxtowe achieve a recycling rate of 50%, by 2016, as well as reducing litter and helping to protect the environment for future generations. For more information and tips of what items can be recycled, please contact Broxtowe Borough Council on 0115 917 7777, email recycling@broxtowe.gov.uk or visit www. broxtowe.gov.uk/recycling

Hi everyone, the work has nearly been completed, (also the road markings around Stapleford). Any remarks or mistakes that have been made, could you please pass the information on to Notts County Council, also please pass on your comments about the heavy lorries that are still coming through Stapleford, this has been happening for years, unless I am mistaken, the limit is 7.5 ton. The planters around the town area should be sorted by Spring and the children from William Lilley school will be coming up with some ideas. Regarding the supermarket Aldi, most of the councillors want it on the Pinfold Lane Trading estate, but they have been asked to look at two sites in Stapleford. The area near the police station and the precinct in the centre of Stapleford. Both sites in my eyes unsuitable and will not aid in the prosperity of the town. Ray and myself will do our upmost to make sure of this. We are both standing for our area again, I hope we have served you well and that you will enable us to carry on our good work for Stapleford if re-elected. My family have lived in Stapleford for all of our lives and I’m proud of being both your town and borough representative. In the next few years a lot of work is planned around here, Whitely Mill, Aldi and HS2. Let’s hope that our children and future generations will look forward to a better future in the town we all love. Thanks Cllr John McGrath (Maggie) and Ray

Whats on Recent finds of late Medieval Amulets - Lakeside Arts The mass destruction during the Reformation and later of devotional items made from precious metals, means that the material evidence for medieval piety in the British Isles is scant. Accidental losses found through the agency of metal detectors have brought to light some of the most intimate survivals of religious practice in the form of amuletic pendants and jewellery reliquaries. This talk will share a number of recent finds with the audience and reflect on their significance. In September 1894 Nottingham Castle opened a Special Exhibition of Pictures by ‘CORNISH PAINTERS of NEWLYN, ST IVES, FALMOUTH, etc’. The exhibition gave a comprehensive overview of a new wave in British art, sweeping in from what seemed at the time to be a remote, little-known area of the country. The 2015 exhibition reunites works from 1894 and reappraises this ground-breaking exhibition from the early years of the Castle Museum & Art Gallery for 2015. Grapevine Tips To remove the salt deposits that form on clay pots, combine equal parts white vinegar, rubbing alcohol and water in a spray bottle. Apply the mixture to the pot and scrub with a plastic brush. Let the pot dry before you plant anything in it. To prevent accumulating dirt under your fingernails while you work in the garden, draw your fingernails across a bar of soap and you'll effectively seal the undersides of your nails so dirt can't collect beneath them. Then, after you've finished in the garden, use a nailbrush to remove the soap and your nails will be sparkling clean. Check your houseplants aren’t toxic to pets Some common house plants which can be harmful to pets include aloe, dieffenbachia, various ivy and lily plants, carnations, philodendron, and holly. These plants account for only a small percent of household plants which can be toxic to animals. Before bringing a new plant into your pet’s home, always be sure it is not harmful.

Book Review by Clare Lyons The Last Bride in Ballymuir by Dorien Kelly In an effort to make sure this review covers a wide range of genres and authors there has had to be a certain amount of ‘challenging’ reading - things that I wouldn’t normally pick up. The world of romantic novels is certainly in this arena, however I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of Kelly’s writing. The story is not a shocker – there’s a misunderstood hero, a naïve but feisty heroine and some ‘baggage’ for them both to deal with. The story is well paced and the supplementary characters are easy to imagine and empathise with, the story has a nice blend of humour and drama and was entertaining to read. The book was a finalist in the Romance Writers of America Awards. Kelly has since gone on to write more in the Ballymuir Series, with The Boldest Man and The Brightest Flame if you’d like to continue the story and follow the lives of Jenna or Vi (I predict romance for them both…).

Children’s Choice The Midnight Library by Kazuno Kohara What a treat! It’s a wonderful thing when you find a book that matches a conversation or discussion that you’ve just had… and so we came across this lovely story of a library that opens at night for all the nocturnal animals. It’s a real delight to read with very stylised and attractive illustrations. The animals are assisted by a little librarian and her three owls, they can read you the book if you’re scared of the ending and there is even a room upstairs you can meet in for band practice. The idea of going to places after they’ve shut is a common talking point for children and this is a great way to imagine a night time version of something they may be very familiar with. www.letyourselfgrow.org 56

ARCADE PLAYERS Present AN EVENING OF COMEDY Building upon the Arcade Players’ recent hit farce, “Two Into One”, this well established Long Eaton Company is displaying the versatile talents of its members once more. “An Evening of Comedy” is the ultimate presentation of this season’s plays by the Arcade Players. The evening consists of three one act plays by some of the country’s finest dramatists – Frances Bartram, N J Warburton and the ever excellent Alan Ayckbourn. An evening of contrasting comedic styles is guaranteed to have the audiences leaving with a smile on their lips. These three totally individual comedies will be performed at the Duchess Theatre, West Gate, Long Eaton at 7.30 pm from Wednesday 29th April to Saturday 2nd May and include :DON’T BLAME IT ON THE BOOTS – Kate shouldn’t have directed Macbeth, but she did. Eric shouldn’t have flirted outrageously with the leading lady, but he did and no one knows who played the Ghost. Chaos at the drama group! IN THE BAG – visits the back room at a charity shop, where the volunteers are shown in their true colours, and an unexpected turn of events causes a dilemma. A CUT IN THE RATES – a typical Alan Ayckbourn sting in the tail black comedy. Only at the end do you realise how wrong you were. "We are very excited about the activities planned at DIG IN this year. We hope that more local people will come down and see what we are doing and enjoy what DIG IN offers. Most of our activities are free of charge and the allotment is run by volunteers. DIG IN is only successful if we get local people to use the garden and build their confidence with growing. A Girl Called Fred. by Roger Willgoose. About the author. Roger Willgoose born in 1935 lived in Trowell until he married Jean in 1968, then they settled in Stapleford. Never having owned a pet, Roger was not happy with the prospect of suddenly adopting a Yorkshire terrier. His anxieties were soon dispelled by the fiesty young dog and the bond that developed between them produced the book in 1981. The manuscript was gifted to Jean, but after several rejections by publishers, it was mislaid, only to be discovered in 2013, three years after Roger’s death. The characters in the book and the public houses are all in and around the area of Stapleford. A Girl Called Fred is the beautifully written tale of Fred, a female Yorkshire terrier, and her first years with a new family. Set in the halcyon days of the seventies, this narrative brings back memories of when the village pub was where good beer and conversation flowed and smoking was allowed inside. Milk was delivered to the doorstep and coal, kept in bunkers, was burnt on open fires where bread and chestnuts could be toasted...In 1975, at the age of six, Fred joins the Willgoose family and brings love, companionship and joy, mixed with humour and occasional sadness to Jean, Roger and Stephen. To their surprise, Fred betrays her ratting ancestry with most unladylike assaults on various cats, dogs and people who stamp their feet, especially eighteen-stone gentlemen! But her strength of character shows through when she becomes the victim of a road accident which causes great distress to her loving family. Stephen often shows a maturity beyond his years while Roger, with good humour, patience and occasional over-indulgence in the local pub, endures and describes some quite hilarious experiences. Anyone who has ever loved a dog will enjoy A Girl Called Fred. Animal lovers especially will find the account of Fred's life entertaining, while the narrative will appeal to fans of humorous fiction. Author Roger was an avid reader and was inspired by the late Henry Rider Haggard and Damon Runyon.

Canary Child by David Field and Alan Dance A supernatural, genealogical mystery mixing tragedy and humour Local author Alan Dance (Narrow Marsh, Leen Times and The Westbrook Affair) has teamed up with an old school friend David Field for another absorbing and locally set historical novel. With a powerful and topical First World War connection, the plot is based on the true story of the biggest civilian tragedy of the Great War – the massive explosion on 1 July 1918 at the Chilwell Shell-Filling Factory. Many of the 139 killed were the young women we know as “Canary Girls”, because working with toxic chemicals turned their skin yellow. Why it exploded remains a mystery to this day, but at the time there was talk of spies and German saboteurs. Canary Child cleverly offers a new theory as to what might have been the cause.

safely at home, and try and discover the true parentage of a child left orphaned by the blast. The fast-moving narrative takes the reader from the back streets of Long Eaton, via Attenborough, Chilwell, Beeston and Bramcote to the trenches of northern France and back, with a Record Office thrown in for good measure. There is romance and surprise. Mixing imagined history with actual events, and the use of Nottinghamshire dialect in the dialogue, makes for a thoroughly believable and entertaining read. This is not a book you can put down. Canary Child. Arundel Books. £6.99. ISBN 978-0-9558133-6-8 Available locally at W.H. Smith in Beeston. Also as a Kindle eBook. by Peter Robinson.

This is a time-shifting novel that moves seamlessly between 1918 and 1968. It starts in Attenborough churchyard in 1968, where school teacher Dorothy Younger has a ghostly encounter with a girl who claims to have died in an explosion at the nearby shell-filling factory fifty years before, and pleads with Dorothy to “find my little Ernie”. Enlisting the help of a Chilwell Depot army officer, the unlikely pair set out to solve a genealogical mystery to discover what happened to Canary Girls Lil and Mabel, two fun-loving Long Eaton lace hands who sign up for work at the shell-filling factory. Together, they grapple with the puzzle of a young woman who apparently died in the explosion, but who was never officially there, and the survival of another who should have been blown to pieces but was found later To advertise call 07854 990608 or visit our website www.beechpublications.co.uk GRAPEVINE-NG9 march april 2015.indd 69

Minister for Health visits North London blood bank to launch innovative Blood 2020 strategy Jane Ellison MP, Minister for Public Health, launched NHS Blood andTransplant’s Blood 2020 strategy with a visit to Colindale blood centre, NorthLondon. The minister met local patients whose lives depend on blood donation and saw first hand state-of-the-art manufacturing services which help maintain blood stock levels for hospitals around the country. Every day, NHS Blood and Transplant relies on more than 6,000 blood donors to meet hospital and patient need across England and North Wales. The new strategy outlines the ambitions for blood donation services over the next five years. An important part of Blood 2020 is work to better match donated blood to patients in need. Scientists at Colindale are working on extended blood group testing for patients who need multiple transfusions, including the 10,000 people in England who have sickle cell anaemia and 800 with thalassaemia. Calvin Campbell, 50, from North London has received regular transfusions at the Whittington Hospital since the age of 14 for treatment of sickle cell. DonnaMansfield-Allman, 54, also has sickle cell and is treated with regular transfusions at the Whittington and University College Hospital, London. The patients, who met Jane Ellison MP during her tour last week, are among those who in the future will hopefully benefit from the extended blood testing initiative. Jane Ellison, Minister for Public Health said: “My visit to Colindale showed the importance of donating blood. The Blood 2020 strategy builds on the excellent progress to date and gives clear direction for the years ahead, with the ambition to deliver the world’s best blood service. Most importantly, it has at

its heart the need to deliver an excellent and expert service to NHS hospitals, donors and patients.” Ian Trenholm, Chief Executive at NHS Blood and Transplant said: “We were delighted to welcome Jane Ellison MP to tour our Colindale facility, giving her an opportunity to see some of the world class work going on within the organisation in North London and meet local patients. The minister saw a snapshot of the technical work taking place at one of our state-of-the-art laboratories. “As part the minister’s visit we launched our Blood 2020 strategy, setting out our ambitions for the next five years. We have come a long way since the inception of NHS Blood and Transplant nearly ten years ago, and this strategy builds on what we have learned along the way and paves the way for ourfuture. While the process of collecting blood is fundamentally the same as a decade ago, processes and technologies have developed and demand from hospitals has changed. As an organisation, we have moved with these advancements and we continue to take strides forward as we move towards 24/7 activity across the organisation and seek innovative ways to meet our hospital customers’ needs. “We will of course continue to focus on donors – without them being prepared to give their time to donate we wouldn’t be able to provide hospitals and patients with the transfusions they need. We aim to offer donors a safe, positive and modern experience – which includes moving towards paperless appointments and health checks. We hope that 80 per cent of donors will be using our digital services by 2020, enabling them to register, book and amend their appointments online meaning it is easier for them to come back and give their vital donations time and time again.” The NHS Blood and Transplant Blood 2020 Strategy is available for download via http://www.nhsbt.nhs.uk/download/ blood-2020.pdf

Art inspiration in the garden Creative children and young people are invited to get out into the garden to seek inspiration for Nottingham in Bloom’s annual art and photography competitions The theme of the 2015 art competition is 'All Seasons In Bloom' to encourage young artists to explore the garden, park or countryside all year round. The photography competition theme is 'Nature And Encouraging Wildlife In The Garden'. Both competitions are again sponsored by Capital One, whose staff will help to shortlist the entries. The competitions regularly attract over 1,000 entries from young people who live, go to school or are members of community groups in Nottingham. Stuart Mather, Community Relations Manager for Capital One, said: "We are proud to support the competitions and hope they will encourage children to take inspiration from plants, flowers, fruits and wildlife all through the year. It's a great way for young people to showcase their creative talents. Over the years we have had some really fantastic entries that have gone on to be used for posters, Christmas cards and publications. The winners in 2012 even had the opportunity to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during their visit to the city." Shortlisted pictures and photos will be displayed at the open day at the Nottingham City Council Nursery at Woodthorpe Grange Park on Saturday May 9th when the public can vote for their favourites. Winners will receive gift vouchers to be presented at an awards ceremony at the nursery in July, and the winning pictures will go on to represent the city in the East Midlands in Bloom competitions. Photographer Tracey Whitefoot is also offering a photography workshop for one of the winners and their classmates. Councillor Malcolm Wood, Chair of the Nottingham in Bloom Working Group, said: "Thank you to Capital One for their ongoing support, which enables these popular and worthwhile competitions to continue and grow. "I am delighted to see that many schools in the city have inspirational gardens that have provided the children with a wealth of opportunities to produce excellent paintings and photographs. In recent years we have been particularly pleased to receive so many photos featuring wildlife, which have required patience as well as skill on the part of the photographers." For an entry form, visit www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/nottinghaminbloom or call Nottingham in Bloom on 0115 915 2733. The closing date is Friday April 17th.
