Bunk in Halifax • Harbourside Hostel market in Halifax is slowly but gradually growing. Raj Gupta have requested a 3 story hostel within the area shown in the map below.

Who is the Client • Raj Gupta, is the hotel manager at Westin Nova Scotia he is also the food and beverage director at Westin hotel in Halifax. • Currently Westin Hotel in Halifax is composed of 310 rooms with F&B outlets and 25,000 sq feet meeting and banquet facility. He is currently leading a team of 8 department heads and over 200 line staff.

• We had the opportunity to meet Raj at a Hospitality Expo in Toronto and we were contacted by him after 71/2 months. After many meetings both in Halifax and Toronto it was decided to settle on a 3 story Hostel. Raj wanted to start on a miniature scale project because he wasn’t known to this industry.

Start of the project-4th Year of Business Creative Director- Bahar Her guiding principle is the notion that joy must be allowed to pervade every sector of the work. By utilizing the ‘correct’ methodology she has figured real life and practical solutions for a enjoyable and comfortable hostel stay. Bahar has backpacked through Europe and Asia in the past year and a half. She has resided in many hostels that was possible. She has coach surfed and she has also experienced a bed and breakfast as well as a luxurious hotel. Bahar has the perfect idea of what makes an enjoyable stay during one’s travel journey. Though an architect and designer of international standing and experience, Bahar forms localized responses in her work which extend beyond the project site to inclde the canvas of street and town, users and history. Bahar’s design brief grows organically from debate and experiment, and offers spontaneous resolutions which materialize into unique structures. BUNK designs are implicitly environmentally responsive with low energy service systems. Bahar is always open to new ideas and new creative members to join her group. She’s a practicing interior designer for the past 8 years with a BA from ryerson and MA of Arch. from U of T.

Start of the project-4th Year of Business Marketing Director- Dexter Dexter has a Honours BA in Commerce from McMaster University with a minor in design management and marketing. Dexter challenged himself by starting his journey as a sales representative in the dynamic real estate sphere of Toronto. Whilst Dexter was enjoying a growing reputation as a trustworthy real estate agent he was also nurturing his vision for the future of Toronto by engaging in private home construction. He then gradually distanced himself from the sales field and practiced his marketing skills by working within the hospitality firm for many hotels and motels for their marketing strategies and ways to increase sales. Dexter pays special attention to client satisfaction, quality of professional services, and utilizes comprehensive marketing tools available in the field of hospitality.

Start of the project-4th Year of Business Junior Designer- Joe Joe is the resident artist at BUNK design contributing concept drawings, sketches, and 3D computer designs to initial project stages as well as a body independent work which contributes to the practiced output. He is a graduate from Ryerson School of Architecture in Toronto. Joe has worked on many of the practices key projects across a range of building types including ontario college of Art & Design. He has experience interning abroad in Brazil for graphic design and he has gone through many volunteer abroad programs in Costa Rica and Venezuela. His strong point is that he is known to teh field of traveling abroad and knows the lifestyle of a backpacker and his needs.

Start of the project-4th Year of Business Junior Designer- Rosa Rosa has trained at the north Rhine westphalia technical university and the escuela tecnica superior de Arqitectura de Madrid. Her educational background has included work for various international architectural instructors as well as interning for 2 firms in Madrid specializing in hospitality design. Just very recently Rosa’s design for the redevelopment of Kipsala Island in Riga (Latvia) won an honorable mention in the international Europan 7 competition. Her concept is based on mixed use scheme combining green space, water space, residential and office use with bigger scale peripheral uses in a unique multi-layered landscape.

Start of the project-4th Year of Business Marketing Assistant- Jose Jose is a director of BUNK after graduating from Edinburgh University with a degree in history and minor in design management he worked for ‘Times’ newspaper and private eye magazine. He has worked in call-centers. He will work with Dexter assisting him through all the marketing and attending galas and expos taking place throughout Canada

Deliverables At the conclusion of the work plan a comprehensive visioning proposal will be completed that will provide the client group with a vision and strategy for the development and permit the initiation of a process with the city for key components of the development. Project Deliverables will include: Book 1 The first book is produced and presented with the sacrificial scheme at the beginnig of the dreaming phase. Book 1 will be distributed only to the client team and represents a visual and written diary of the workshop exercises and will be used to inform the work associated with the design proposal phase. The book will be a full-color, 11X17 document. 10 copies of book 1 and 1 CD containing the Adobe PDF file of the same will be provided. Book 2 The second book is produced and presented at the final workshop at the end of the design proposal phase. Book 2 will be suitable for production to many expos as well as the community at large and will definitely involve input from the key stakeholders to ensure this. Fee Proposal The fee for the work, in relation to the design program described, is divided between the visioning proposal is as follows: Total Cost (Master Plan and Visioning Component)

The Architectural fee will be split into three equal parts, payable upon completion of each phase, commencing 30 days after the initiation of the workshop process. Based upon the work plan proposed that includes 3 day, 2 night visits by Dexter and Joe the total disbursements, including all printing and travel is calculated as follows: Total Disbursements = 4,500 This includes the following items: Travel, Hotel, and meals for 2 people Printing Cost (Book1 & Book 2) 5 Copies (10 +10 ) Misc. Workshop Materials

Exclusions BUNK’s scope of services and fees beyond this appointment are subject to further negotiations. Fees and disbursements required by other services and consultants CAD rendered images for planning or public presentation ( other than those provided in the final report) Printing and reproduction of the publications over and above those listed.
