MASTER FORMAT Threshold Construction The Body Shop FINISH CARPENTRY 06200 10 Dec 2012 1. GENERAL 1.1 Description 1.1.1 Provide exterior carpentry finish as indicated on the drawings including wood slats, posts and trim. 1.2 Site Conditions 1.2.1 Provide dry storage areas. Protect all wood from wetting and moisture gain. 1.2.2 Confirm all dimensions and levels on site 1.3 Quality Assurance 1.3.1 Work of this section shall be performed by journeymen carpenters familiar with the work they are installing. 1.4 Submittals 1.4.1 Submit 3 sets of shop drawings showing finished configuration and installation details. Where products are fabricated by other Sections, instructions and details should be as provided by the fabricator through this Section. 2. PRODUCTS 2.1 Materials 2.1.1 All lumber to be White Oak, NLGA select tight knotted, certified kiln dried, smooth face unless noted otherwise. Unless noted on drawings, all solid wood up to 12 feet long is assumed to be fabricated from single piece. 2.1.2 Adhesives to be waterproof, suited to work for which they are used, conforming to CSA 0112 Series-M. 2.1.3 Nails to be galvanized spiral finishing nails conforming to CSA B111. 2.1.4 Wood screws to be non-ferrous, corrosion-resistant alloy finished or stainless steel, conforming to CSA B35.4. 3. EXECUTION 3.1 Installation 3.1.1 Build and erect work accurate, true, plumb, square, straight, level and secure. Confirm all dimensions and levels on site. 3.1.2 As far as practical, assemble work at the shop and deliver to the job ready for installation. Leave ample allowance for fitting on the job. 3.1.3 Back and end prime prior to installation all wood surfaces to be stained. 3.1.4 Where fasteners cannot be concealed, use brads or finishing nails of size as suited to application, set and filled. 3.1.5 Install all finish hardware as per manufacturer’s instructions. 3.1.6 Install metal fabrications and products in accordance with reviewed installation drawings and manufacturer’s printed instructions. MASTER FORMAT Threshold Construction The Body Shop FINISHES 09000 10 Dec 2012 1. GENERAL 1.1 Description 1.1.1 Conform to Division 01, General requirements. 1.1.2
Provide stain and finish to all surfaces as indicated on drawings and in specifications. Prepare surfaces to be stained and finished required (finish sanding of exposed wood surfaces to remove handling marks and raised grain.
1.2 Submittals 1.2.1 Prior to staining and purchasing of stain, provide 12” by 12”samples of selected stains in finishes specified on same material to be stained for approval by Consultant. Final stains may be altered based on site review of samples. 1.2.2 Provide the Owner with all opened but not completely used materials in resealed containers, marked with stain finish number for maintenance purposes. 1.3 Site Conditions 1.3.1 Follow manufacturer’s recommendations. Interior temperatures to be at least 15 deg C. 1.3.2 Provide adequate ventilation during application and drying to ensure proper drying and for protection from toxic fumes. 2. PRODUCTS 2.1 Materials 2.1.1 Interior stains and finishes to be water based, formulated or free from formaldehyde, halogenated solvents, aromatic hydrocarbons, mercury or mercury compounds, to not be tinted with pigments of lead, cadmium, chromium VI and their oxides. Provide 3 coats of stain and 3 coats of finish on all surfaces. 2.1.2 Stain colors to be selected by Consultant from General Finishes or approved alternate. Use same brand for finishing coats. 2.1.3 Deliver all stains and related products to the site in sealed, labelled original containers bearing manufacturer’s name, type of stain or finish, color designation and instructions. Do not store stain in the building. 3. EXECUTION 3.1 Preparation 3.1.1 Use sufficient drop cloths, masking and protective coverings for full protection of adjacent surfaces not being stained. Clean any components stain spotted or soiled. Remove all electrical plates, lighting fixtures, finished hardware prior to execution and on completion of staining and replace in their original positions when complete. 3.1.2 Clean and dry all surfaces to be stained. Examine all surfaces prior to work starting. Commencement of work indicates acceptance of the surface to be finished. 3.2 Application 3.2.1 Stain to be applied by brush or cloth. Uniformly apply all finishes, free from runs, holes, sags or variation of color or sheen. Permit stain to dry between all coats. All surfaces to be finished whether above or below sight lines or not. 3.2.2 Prime wood noted for stain finish immediately upon delivery to site. All work to be minimum three stain coats and three finish coats. If surfaces are not sufficiently covered, apply further coats. 3.3 Clean-up 3.3.1 On completion of work thoroughly clean to ensure all areas are free from stain equipment, spatter, and spoiling of adjacent surfaces. Remove all materials, rubbish and tools. END OF SECTION
