Lu Guang’s lens has a special power: it can change the world. This year, he became the first mainland photographer to win the coveted W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography for “Pollution in China.” This photo of the Yellow River is part of his series. But Lu is not alone in his appeals to conscience through imagery.
