Healing Your Hormones
Naturally Can You Think Yourself
Sick?
Ah, hormones! They sustain our development, metabolism and sexual function and affect our health, weight, and (of course) our mood. It’s vital to preserve a balance in order to support these functions. Some believe being exposed to toxins and estrogen pills can disturb this balance. If you are taking oral contraceptives, or follow a non-organic diet, you may have experienced neverending, troubling mood swings or perhaps increased cravings. These are signs that you may possess a hormone imbalance. Other symptoms include fatigue, persistent acne, digestive problems and nagging migraines. Fortunately there are many natural methods of restoring this balance to improve health and vitality.
There is a strong connection between our brain and our body and sickness can sometimes become a case of mind over matter. This area of medicine is called Psychoneuroimmunology. Not controlling your psychological stress may increase your chances of becoming unwell. Yoga and Reiki are great methods to help you stay healthy and present this winter. The colder months can bring with them all sorts of uncomfortable ails such as a runny noses, inflamed throats, muscle aches and (of course) the flu. Many of these dreaded symptoms are a result of poor immunity. Our minds are a powerful tool in strengthening our immune system and yoga can be a great way of tapping into our thoughts and actions to help achieve overall wellness.
To relax the mind takes some effort, so just allow the process to happen. One way to relax the mind is focussing on the breath; this will help bring our attention to the present moment, feeling calm and peaceful.”
Yoga works through reducing stress hormones and calming nervous system activity. The variety of breathing techniques and exercises that yoga offers help improve the mechanical efficiency of our lungs, leading to a calming and soothing outcome on the body and the mind.
YOGA Yoga aims to improve the body’s overall circulation through performing yoga postures. According to Crusoeden Body Osteopath Dr. Kimberley Coad, yoga aims to improve the function of the body as a whole.
“Our objective as healers is to help support a healthy flow of energy within the chakras for optimum health and harmony.”
REIKI According to Reiki, each endocrine gland corresponds to one of seven Chakras- These chakras influence hormone secreting activities. Crusoeden Body Founder and Accredited Holistic Healer and Reiki Master, Jayne Boyle, says Reiki assists in balancing the body’s energy systems and encourages individuals to engage in a healing session.
The mental focus needed in yoga provides the individual with a soothing outcome on the body and mind.
AYURVEDA
It’s okay to practice yoga if you are ill with a cold or flu. Good breathing techniques during practice can help maintain the health of our respiratory system, and may reduce stuffiness, coughing, and a sore throat.
The aim of Ayurveda is to have the Doshas in balance – Ensuring all our bodily functions are working how they should be, including our mind and spirit.
Another gentle practice that can enhance your immune system is Reiki. Just like yoga, it assists with stress reduction and relaxation through helping calm and balance all the energy centres. Reiki helps curb distressing thoughts and feelings that weaken the flow of our life force energy, creating more freedom for positive, enlightening thoughts that connects our mind, body and spirit.
This traditional healing system helps achieve optimal health and wellness through restoring balance and may reduce the need for processed, pharmaceutical hormone replacements.
Through supporting the healthy flow of energy within the chakras you can achieve optimum health and wellbeing throughout the body.”
Crusoeden Body recommends scheduling a Reiki healing session with a qualified Reiki practitioner around 4-6 weeks or whenever required. For those who are able to do Reiki on themselves, a daily practice is recommended 10-20 minutes or longer.
“It allows the body to better control homeostasis including that of the endocrine system.”

Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest, traditional mind-body healing systems.
“Always eat slowly and mindfully. Eat in moderation – think about the stomach being satisfied when it is two thirds full.”
It teaches us to harmonise our body and mind with the universal laws of nature through combining yoga, meditation, and cleansing. The importance of food as medicine is a key element of this practice and helps ensure our doshas are kept in balance. It is imperative to counteract an imbalance in your doshas to help allow the promotion of good health. The food that we eat is important in achieving this. It is recommended to eat a colourful, flavourful diet for nourishment. A variety of foods helps guarantee the right quantities of proteins, carbohydrates, good fats, as well as vitamins and minerals. Crusoeden Body advocates eating according to the seasons and your dosha. To boost immunity this winter eat a diet of fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables. Nuts seeds, grains, legumes/beans, dairy products and eggs can be eaten in moderation.
“By eating a good supply and variety of these foods, all vitamins and minerals will be provided, ensuring healthy immunity.” There are many benefits of a plant-based diet. For those who aren’t vegetarian, try to cut down on red meat and chicken and introduce more fish, as it is easier to digest.
Ayurveda in Winter
To help you on your Ayurveda journey we have listed the foods you should and shouldn’t be eating regularly to help balance your dosha and pave the way for good health and immunity:
SATTVIC FOOD These should be eaten the most and are usually easily digestible. These foods nourish the body, purify the mind and heal imbalance in the body by generating good health, energy, vitality, mental alertness, peace and strength. Foods include: vegetables, fruits, herbs; whole and unrefined grains; protein rich foods such as legumes, nuts, seeds, some dairy; and natural sweeteners such as honey.
RAJASIC FOOD
TAMASIC FOOD
These foods should be eaten occasionally and are foods that are not as easily digestible. They include refined sugar, very spicy, hot, salty, bitter, sour, pungent, or sweet foods; hot spices such as red chili powder and black pepper, stimulants such as onion, garlic, tea, coffee, chocolate and wine.
These foods should be eaten the least and are difficult to digest. They require more energy to digest and are known to be the least helpful to the mind and the body. These foods include those that are stale, overripe, deteriorated or processed such as tinned, frozen or preserved food products.

Crystal Clear Western medicine has no doubt proven an effective means of helping to cure illness. However many are also looking at more holistic approaches (including crystal healing) as a means to connect the mind, body and spirit for enhanced wellness. Crystal healing is a type of natural therapy that has been around for centuries and its healing properties are as rich as its history. Just admiring or touching a crystal can evoke a psychological effect releasing suppressed emotions and memories.

HOW DOES CRYSTAL HEALING WORK?
Just like a crystal, our energy field, meridians, chakras, and all of our organs vibrate to their own frequency. When we become unwell that frequency is altered and this reflects in our energy field. The crystals work to lift and restore the frequency of the imbalanced energy to allow positive, healing energy to flow through our body. This outcome
Physical Benefits
There are a number of ways we can use crystals. They can be used directly by placing them on the body, on corresponding chakra centres. They can also be worn as jewellery, or by placing suitable crystals within our environment, such as in our home or car.
Even though many aspects of this amazing therapy cannot be fully explained by medical experts, holistic healers have confidence that science will one day be able to catch up.
One thing that scientists and natural healers alike do agree on is that a life force exists within and around all living beings, which creates an energy field. This energy vibrates to a certain frequency that affects our health, emotions and our thoughts. Each crystal has a chemical composition that produces a unique frequency and has the ability to store and transmit energy. The vibration of the crystal is completely reliable, consistent and accurate- akin to quartz used in watches in order to regulate the movement of the arms to give an accurate time.
