Between Friends: Your chance to do a double mitzvah! Help others and divert items from the land fill. The Synagogues that make up the Bayview Corridor; Beit Rayim, Beth Tikvah, Kehillat Shaarei Torah, Shaar Shalom, Temple Emanu-El and Temple Har Zion are teaming up with “Between Friends” to collect some badly needed items for fourteen Aboriginal communities in Northern Ontario. Most requested items are: Clothing – In good condition. If you wouldn’t wear it because it is damaged or soiled, please do not send it. Reading books (children’s, teens and adult) – Please no text books or damaged, written in books. Puzzles and games. Please make sure that all the pieces are enclosed and that the boxes are properly sealed. Toys Linens, including towels, dish towels, sheets and pillow cases. Items must be in good condition. Please do not send stained or threadbare items. Blankets Skates Hockey Sticks Your donations can be dropped off at “Kids Come First” daycare between 7:30 AM – 2 PM Monday to Friday at: 40 New Westminster Drive (at Steeles, between Bathurst and Dufferin). Thornhill, Ontario L4J 7Z8 Contact person is Maxine Roness Ph: (905) 660-3467 Do not go into the public school. The entrance to the daycare is through the black wrought iron gates. Items will be sorted by Kids Come First teachers and volunteers and then sent by transport truck bound for several northern hubs. First Nations with road access pick up their own boxes. Remote communities receive their boxes by various means including small, single engine prop planes, and OPP detachments. Coming in October we will also be collecting sporting equipment including skates, hockey equipment, skis and bicycles for Chiippewa of Nawash and Saugeen Ojibway First Nation. They are located within an hour of Owen Sound, one on Lake Huron and one on the west coast of Georgian Bay. These will be driven up to the reserves by Bayview Corridor volunteers.
