Shalom and welcome to spring, Please note that the recent clock change in which we moved forward one hour means that we are all, automatically, behind schedule in our Pesach preparation. Getting ready for Pesach is a huge task– cleaning our homes, koshering for the holiday, getting out the dishes, pot and pans and other once a year utensils, and cooking in quantities sufficient to feed the Israelites who left Egypt. With a “To Do” list that long it is not surprising that many of us arrive at the Seder too pooped to participate of unprepared for that essential part of the experience. Complete Pesach preparation must include thinking about how to engage the people who are at our Seder and transform it into an incredible learning experience. To be successful, we need to start as early as possible and invest as much energy in this phase of the process as we do on the lengthy task list above. To help you along, there are many resources to which you can turn– choosing the right Haggadah is an important first step. I highly recommend “The Feast of Freedom” Haggadah which is published by the Conservative movement. The Hebrew text is clear, the English lucid and contemporary., the illustrations bright and colorful and the side panels on each page present the how to and why of each element along with interesting explanations, commentaries and questions. Replacing all those Maxwell House Haggadot may need to be a several years process but will be a wonderful investment in your seder experience. You can even begin with just one for the Seder leader and go from there. Additional resources include Haggadot such us: “A Different Night” by Noam Zion and David Dishon; “The Art of Jewish Living: The Passover Seder” by Ron Wolfson 1st and 2nd Edition. Not to mention a multitude of internet sites including: www.myjewishlearning.com/holidays/passover.htm and www.babaganewz.com/holidays Beit Rayim is also offering two opportunities to learn how to “Spice up Your Seder”, on Tuesday April 1st. At 7:30 PM and Thursday April 3rd. At 5:30 PM. The Thursday session will take place at Ross Doan P.S. Please contact the school office to sign up so that we can have material for everyone. Have a sweet, happy and kosher Pesach. Rabbi David M. Eligberg
