For over six decade events in Israel have captured our attention, touched our souls and been woven into the fabric of our Jewish identity. Many of the challenges that Israel faced sixtytwo years ago when it became a sovereign state have changed - some, thank God, have been solved, many others have grown more complex. What has not and must not change is our willingness to act on behalf of the State of Israel. While we all find our own individual ways to show our support, the annual Walk With Israel is a unique communal and collective opportunity to stand together and show each other, the Canadian people, the politicians in the GTA and across Canada, as well as our Israeli brothers and sisters, our love for Eretz Yisrael and Medinat Yisrael, the Land of Israel and the State of Israel. Money raised in this year’s Walk With Israel will specifically be used to benefit the children of Bat Yam. Bat Yam is situated on the Mediterranean Sea, South of Tel Aviv. Bat Yam has been plagued with severe unemployment, poor living conditions and an educational system that faces many challenges. This Israeli city contains a high population of Ethiopian immigrants striving to integrate into Israeli society and culture. Through your participation in the UJA Walk With Israel, this community will be supported, nurtured and given a chance for a brighter future.

You can learn more about Bat Yam on the Walk With Israel website through a video entitled, “A Day in the Life of the Children of Bat Yam, Israel.” Information about the walk and incentive prizes (T-shirts, iTunes gift cards and much more) is also available at http:// www.walkwithisrael.com or by calling (416) 631-5700.
