Max Eisen With participation of the Beit Rayim Singers who will perform a blend of songs reflecting the painful past of the Jewish people, and the hope for a better and peaceful future. There will also be a Candle Lighting ceremony. Holocaust survivor Max Eisen was born in Moldava, in the former Czechoslovakia on March 15th 1929. In 1939 Hungarians occupied Slovakia and eventually in 1944 his family was deported to AuschwitzBirkenau. Max, his father and his uncle worked as slave labourers but in September 1944 his father and uncle were selected out. Max managed to survive a death march to Mauthausen, Melk and Ebensee. Max was liberated by the 761st Black Panther Tank Battalion of the General Patton 3rd Army of USA, on May 6, 1945. Later he went back to Czechoslovakia and stayed in an orphanage for 3 years. Max arrived at Quebec City in October 1949 and eventually in Toronto where he has lived since.
