“The best part of my MBA experience has been the networking opportunities and connections I’ve made. While an online program allows the most flexibility, nothing can replace the benefits of face-to-face classes for building a network with both your peers and your professors (who are subject matter experts). I also appreciate the flexibility to fit the program around my schedule and the ease of using my veterans benefits throughout the duration of the program.”

Executive Education & Community Outreach | Belk College of Business Report 2019

EXECUTIVE EDUCATION (JULY 2018- JUNE 2019)

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Ex Ed Custom: Executive Education develops and delivers unique, custom programs through partnerships with Charlotte companies. Last year, Ex Ed delivered 27 customized modules on topics like change management, financial acumen, and business ethics.

HIGHLIGHT The award-winning, custom Executive Education program, AMP, the Advanced Management Program for Legal Executives, is set to run a third cohort this fall. More than 60 members of the Charlotte Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel, representing 47 regional organizations, completed the course during the first two cohorts. Ex Ed Programs: Executive Education delivered two interdisciplinary immersion programs last year, open to the Charlotte business community. Ex Ed provided scholarships to local nonprofit leaders from organizations including Art Pop Street Gallery, Rockwell AME Zion Church, The Ability Experience, and Youth Development Initiatives.

HIGHLIGHT Research from Steven Rogelberg’s hit book, “The Surprising Science of Meetings: How You Can Lead Your Team to Peak Performance,” was the foundation for last fall’s popular Ex Ed Program. Dr. Rogelberg shared his expertise in meeting science with participants, providing them with tools and solutions to take back to the office. Those who attended learned unconventional approaches to making meetings more productive, and learned how to improve the ROI of meeting time. One participant noted, “There was so much useful information that was (most importantly) backed by research, which I can use in meetings that I schedule today!” Ex Ed Talks: The latest addition to Executive Education’s professional development lineup was launched in partnership with the Belk College of Business in 2017 and Ex Ed delivered 8 talks last year. These talks feature world-class faculty and concise content based on the latest research.

In May, Jeffrey Jones delivered the Ex Ed Talk, Slowing Down to Go Fast Forward, a professional development program for alumni and friends of the Belk College of Business that revealed for participants the neuroscience behind productivity.

The Barings/UNC Charlotte Economic Forecasts were held in June 2018, September 2018, December 2018, March 2019, and May 2019. All of the events were held at UNC Charlotte Center City, except the June 2018 event, which was held at the Kimpton Tryon hotel in Uptown Charlotte. Dr. John Connaughton provided economics updates at every event. Led by director Richard Buttimer, the Childress Klein Center for Real Estate organized events which had public outreach components. The Center held three large signature events in 2018-2019: the Real Estate Capital Markets Symposium, the Summit on the State of Housing in Charlotte, the Charlotte Housing Policy Summit. In addition, the Center offered public events including a #CREfuture in October 2018 and March 2019, reaching emerging real estate leaders and new graduate students. The Center also offers a regular Seminar Series to reach students and alumni and sends a quarterly newsletter to alumni, students, board members, and employers.
