Entertaining in Your New Home T
he holidays are just around the corner! The good news is that whether you are hosting a holiday party or having a housewarming get-together, everyone will understand if your house is still in disarray. They are far more interested in seeing your new digs than wondering why everything is not unpacked yet. Here are some tips to make it a party everyone will enjoy! • If you have family coming into town, or even family and friends within the same town, send out invites that include your new address with directions. If you moved to a gated community, make sure and include the gate code. If there are neighbors you are not inviting, alert them that you will be having company and ask them if they mind if people park in front of their house. Maybe let them know they are welcome to stop by as well! • Guests will want to be touring your new home, so food should be casual. Finger foods, desserts, and anything easy to eat while walking around will be best. Maybe set different options in each room while offering an assortment of beverages as well. • Never expect gifts but don’t be surprised if you do get some new

items for your home. Make sure and keep track of who gave you gifts and send thankyou notes to your guests the following week. • If you are new to the city, have your guests fill out slips of paper and put them in a bowl, including their favorite restaurants and tourist destinations that you can use to familiarize yourself with your new area. • And some small, but important tips: Even if you are not fully unpacked, make sure your bathrooms are stocked with toliet paper, soap and towels. Also, be sure you greet and mingle with every guest and if people do not know one another, introduce them throughout the night.
