Welcome
We would like to welcome our fellow cattlemen to our 6th annual bull sale. The cattle industry has been in a muchdeserved upswing which is encouraging. We have always been able to say that Charolais cross cattle are bringing a premium. It has never been more prevalent than now that this is true. Producers that have incorporated these genetics in their herd are now seeing the difference first-hand of the benefit of using Charolais bulls can give you. Our experience in the cattle industry is that, first and foremost, every producer has his or hers own set of challenges. Keeping those challenges in mind, we maintain our herd with a business mindset. We concentrate on cattle that are economical, functional and productive. We are constantly making decisions that will improve our herd and make our farm more efficient. We are in this business with longevity in mind. We want the best for our customers and place high importance on honesty and integrity.
Our selection of bulls expanded this year with the addition of buying Swistun Charolais cattle and bull pen. We are very humbled to be able to purchase this excellent set of females and bulls from Donnie and Heather Swistun and think that the bulls will be a great addition to the sale and the cows to the herd. The cattle were moved here this fall. These bulls are all from one sire, showing the consistency and quality. Be assured that these bulls run along side ours, therefore our commitment to the quality of them is still the same as any other bull in the sale.
As much as this catalogue is about business, we also need to recognize the lifestyle that agriculture creates. We have met some amazing producers, made meaningful friendships and learned some valuable life lessons along the way. This is why we do it every day and appreciate our fellow cattlemen. Thank you to our past bidders and buyers, it has been a pleasure to work with you.
Our open-door policy still is as always. If there is anything we can help you with, please do not hesitate to reach out to us, and/or come for a visit and view the bulls or herd. We appreciate the interest and hope to see you down the road.
Sincerely,
Troy, Dianna and familyLEGACYS MISSION 6K

Reference SIRES
PLEASANTDAWN Prada 604B
Prada is the primary herd sire walking at Swistun Charolais. We were very impressed with to the fact that he was still actively breeding cows at 8 years old and has almost 200 registered progenies. Prada produces calving ease bulls that are excellent quality. We get to skip the guess work and are calving out the bred heifers. We sure do appreciate their quality, udder and disposition.
CAYS Outlaw 2G
We purchased Outlaw with Horseshoe E Charolais. He was the Senior Bull Calf Champion in Agribition in 2019. He is an impressive and complete package. This is our second year offering this set of bulls sired by him and are happy to have them included in the sale. They are stylish cattle in both bull and heifer pen. Outlaw’s EPD’s do not serve him justice. We print them in the catalogue, but in our experience, they do not ring true. Outlaw’s offspring hold their own in the bull, heifer, and bred heifer pen in regards to their size.
PRO-CHAR Frank 141G
Frank was used on select cows. He is a smooth made, easy keeping, eye appealing bull.

BLC Gasket 62G
Gasket is one of the best-looking mature bulls we have walked here at Legacy. He is a large framed, well muscled, ranchy bull. The wheels underneath him couldn’t get any better, with awesome leg structure and perfect feet. Gasket continues to do a great job for us.
CAYS Connect 31F
We used Connect on a select pen of cows. He produced very usable offspring with style and shape.

I can confidently say that all of the boxes have now been checked - the bred heifers are amazing! I can’t say it any better than I did last year, so I’ll do it again.
Our friends at Poplar Bluff Stock Farm purchased Game Day out of our 2020 bull sale and we are so pleased with how this partnership has worked out. We retained a semen interest in Game Day and are so grateful that we did.
His offspring exhibit that same natural muscling, hair, confirmation and disposition he does. Not only are the bulls excellent, the heifer calves are stamped with the same qualities along with the femininity we desire. And to further exceed that, the bred heifers have excellent udders, are great mothers, and have the shape and size to become productive cows. I’d call that a Game Day win!
He is a complete package and we are very proud of what this bull is doing.

OUR FEEDING PROGRAM
We initially feed our bulls using a fiber based no-starch protein supplement along with oats. We then continue with a fiber based non-starch protein pellet. This combination is designed to provide the energy required for good growth, but does not contain any added starch (grain). In addition, it contains chelated minerals, trace minerals and Vitamin E at a higher level to promote better skeletal growth, scrotal development and immune response. It also helps with the stomachs transition from pen to pasture. When we feel their skeletal growth for their age is at a maximum, we then switch to a TMR. We do this to help you see their potential, but not at a rate that is going to affect their longevity.
BIRTH WEIGHT & CALVING EASE
University studies in Wyoming and data from Montana and Colorado lend credence to the following conclusions:
1. The birth weight itself influences calving ease by 65%.
2. The female has 60-70% influence on BW of her calf.
3. The bull has 30-40% influence on BW of his progeny.
4. Pelvic measurement and angle as well as the shape of the calf have 35-40% influence on CE.
5. Length of gestation greatly affects BW. A fetus can gain over one pound per day in the last days of gestation.
6. Weather and temperature the last 30 days affect the length of gestation.
7. Size and maturity of the cow influence CE. Remember, everything is relevant. Increased growth, frame and performance will increase BW. A longer-bodied calf will weight more. If a calf is expected to have genetics for growth, it will display this prior to birth as well as after. As a rule of thumb, it takes a calf weighing 85 lb. at birth to finish at 1200-1250 lb. A cow should easily give birth to a calf weighing 8% of her own body weight. Thus a 1200 lb. cow should give birth to a 96 lb. calf with ease. Continued selection for light birth weights will ultimately reduce the mature sizes and performance of your cattle.
