Welcome

Several words come to mind when I reflect on the past 2 years. Covid proved to be a roller coaster with every turn unknown territory, then mother nature reminded everyone who was really in charge. As we start a new year, we realize that we are very blessed, good health, happy children, amazing friends and a full silage pit. McKeary Charolais are thankful to be working with Diamond L Ranch, and Fleming Livestock again to bring you a very solid set of bulls. Provost Livestock Exchange, Darcy Lakevold and Jesse Lawes, are working with us as outside eyes and will be handling the invoicing. Danna is involved in 4-H, ball, riding, and her new passion is working cattle dogs, with Charlees help this past summer they had a successful summer showing Danna’s cow/calf pair. Charlee is a 4-H cleaver, plays ball and loves a fast-paced horse. She knows what calf goes with what cow. Trace is enjoying kindergarten and is always game to ride Roper and do cowboy Sh!t. If you ever get lost Trace can always get you home. Karen, while working with Chad and us on the farm, has taken a job at Altario School. Chad has also taken on some extra local trucking when time allows. Lynn is an RN working with Kerrobert home care, and Dallas is busy running OSY Rentals. Their children Cole, Owen, and Hayden are involved in many sports, 4-H, riding horses, and spending time at the lake. Ray and I toured BC with Mike and Michael in June and enjoyed it so much we went back for a month in January. We would like to thank everyone for their continued support over the years. We were not sure whether to keep this calf or sell him. So, after a lot of thought, we have decided to offer half interest and half possession, as we would really like to stay involved with him and use him in our own program. Warrior was the Reserve Grand Champion bull in the Alberta Select Bull Show in Red Deer this December. We feel he has so much to offer any program. His Sire MVY Gus 20G has done an amazing job for us in his first year. Not only in the bull pen but in the heifer pen as well. All the calves are thick made and moderate framed with exceptional hair coats. His mother is none other than Wrangler Pretty Lady 4G. The stunning full sister to Elders Houlio 4H, who sold to Lindskov Ranch for $110,000. We sold a flush in Pretty Lady at the Alberta Select Female Sale to EXL Charolais of Stettler, AB and are very excited for her to become a donor this March. It certainly isn’t easy to get a bull this good, combined with such an outstanding set of EPD’s. Stout and stylish, I feel is the best way to describe him. He is so thick yet tremendously clean fronted and has such a presence when you are up close to him. We truly look forward to partnering on Warrior and welcome your input on his future.

Homo Polled. Without a doubt, the most dynamic March calf we have seen! This guy made a lot of friends at the Alberta Select Show, along side Warrior. Last fall we brought this guy in with our top January calves and he never missed a beat. He defiantly has herd bull written all over him. Beautiful, proud front end and huge middle, combined with the extra length, makes him a stand out. He moves like a cat and will cover a lot of cows. We would also like to use this guy a bit before he leaves if that is ok with the new owners.

Homo Polled test pending. This MVY Gus 20G son very closely patterns our Warrior bull. Moderate framed, long bodied, thick topped and hairy. His mother is a first calving Angle H Northern Spirit daughter that we purchased from BOB’s Charolais as a heifer calf. Again, like the Warrior bull, he is clean fronted with a nice head. He will follow you around the pen until he receives his scratches. (Hence, the name). This is an outstanding calf who has a lot to offer. You don’t want to miss out on him!

Homo Polled. This guy has been a standout since birth and he is an absolute meat machine!! His genetics will be an outcross for a lot of herds. His mother MVY Precious 31E has done a great job for us since we selected her out of the Sterling Collection Sale. She is a deep bodied, heavy milking cow. The cross with FLC Wheat King 4G again, combines two great females; Precious x Kenzie 13B. Add to that a nice set of EPD’s and you have yourself a very complete package. Being able to show case our cattle alongside McKeary Charolais and Fleming Livestock Corp. is a real pleasure. At Diamond L Ranch our philosophy is to produce profitable cattle. Our cows must be moderate framed, have a large rumen capacity, must be able to wean a calf every year and live for many years. If she needs a lot of mechanical intervention, the profits will be lost. We are striving to reduce the need for iron, the capital cost for machinery repairs and fuel quickly eats away at profits. Our cattle need to work for us and not us for them. On offer for 2022, we have an excellent group of yearlings and two year olds. Our yearlings come off of a small group of cows and heifers we breed to calve in Jan-Feb. This group generally includes our cows carrying embryos and any new additions to our herd. These calves are weaned in early September. There are some real eye catchers in this group!

Our two year olds are out of our April-May calving cows; these bulls are born on pasture, lightly backgrounded through the winter and then kicked back out on grass to develop. This year, with the cost of feed, we grazed these bulls into early December. We are very happy at how well they progressed on the lower quality feed.

We have been working with the nutritionists from Trouw Animal Nutrition to feed and raise our bulls in a responsible manner. We raise these bulls to work for you; we want them to be effective and efficient in diverse and challenging environments. Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at the sale unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made previous to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. The auctioneer shall have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment or who has not made proper credit clearance to the sale with the owner or Sales Manager. Bidding: Each animal is to be sold to the highest bidder. No bybidding will be permitted. A reasonable price base may be set. Disputes: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters is final. Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. Announcements: Errors discovered in the catalogue will be corrected by announcements from the auction stand at sale time and such corrections will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. Certificate of registry: Each animal will carry papers issued by their respective breed association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyers for each animal after settlement has been made. Breeders Guarantee, bulls: Should any bull (14) fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within (6) six months following date of purchase or (6) six months after the bull has reached (14) fourteen months of age. The seller will then have the right and privilege of (6) six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the

purchase price. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold nor for sickness not apparent at sale time. Exception guarantee: In cases where the animal was subjected to hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. Settlement: Transportation charges on animals returned to the seller are for account of the purchaser. No incidental expenses such as feed, care, A.I., signing fees, interest, veterinary charges, etc., will be charged by either party when making settlement. If the seller is successful in proving the animal in question to be a breeder, the said animal will be reclaimed by the purchaser at his expense. Should the seller fail to prove the animal a breeder, then the buyer is guaranteed a satisfactory replacement F.O.B. ranch or location of origin or a refund of the actual price. Should a dispute arise over the quality of the replacement animal, the Sale Management will appoint a mediator. Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sales manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property. Mail or telephone bids: Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone or mail their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer, or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. Rights and obligatations: The above terms and conditions of the sale shall continue a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction which is not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale. It is clearly understood that Bow Slope Shipping is acting only as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not in any way responsible for any failure on the party to live up to his/her obligations.
