"To this day, I think Bellesini has been the most rigorously academic institution I have ever attended. It is with their help that I stand here today ready to meet the challenge of college head on and with confidence. This is why I was thrilled to hear that Bellesini was opening a school for girls. As a social justice advocate, and a big brother, I think it's amazing that my little sister Jeimy, and other girls like her, will have the chance to receive a Bellesini education."

Latinas face significant challenges compared to their peers, including lower proficiency in math & reading, higher high school dropout rates, and greater rates of obesity. Only 3% of Latinas are represented in STEM fields.

In 2003 my family arrived in America from Costa Rica. Raised in a single parent household and with no guidance on where to go, we ended up in Lazarus House. But my family was soon able to make it out of the shelter through my mom's hard work and determination. Bellesini is a truly magical place and in many ways I credit it for my success. The rigorous academics, the long school days, the challenging homework assignments, and the high expectations prepared me for high school and college. What I valued most about Bellesini was the sense of community. The staff at Bellesini are truly incredible human beings and were very much present every step of the way throughout my high school career. But they also continue to be involved now that I’m at BC. I can’t express how grateful I am for all of their support. —Anthony, Bellesini ‘11, Saint John’s Prep ‘15, Boston College ‘19
